Those darn Italians..........they forsaw the birth of the "Yugo" and like Skynet....attempted to alter the timeline by going back deep into the past in the hopes of sparing the sanity of many a future car owner.

they FAILED.

The "Yugo" was just an awful car... nobody liked it here...

Believe it or not it was still produced until just few year ago under name "Tempo"!

BTW, did you guys actually see it in USA and knew people who owned it there?

Morning men. Off for the day to play "Fear God and Dread Naught". I'll probably get some tin can destroyer that will sink after firing a futile torpedo salvo. Or even worse, before.

Simon, what is this? Sounds like some group live-action game...

No it's naval miniatures game from Clash of Arms.

I can highly recommend another Clash of Arms title called Close Action. Age of Sail naval game for miniatures or a board.

The author lives up in DC. He's been working on it for a long, long time. I got Bruce into it. It's well worth learning.

The latest dispatches from Atlanta are in.  Our top player was injured in this morning's game and is out for the semifinal game.  The kids rallied and beat the team from just a few miles from here in the semifinal 2 - 1 to advance to tomorrow morning's championship game!

They are playing the host team, Atlanta Fire, who's head coach will soon be in the Baseball Hall of Fame, Tom Glavine.

I'm going to celebrate by having some meatloaf and a beer while I watch last night's recorded Hurricanes game.

Pretty cool, but how old are the boys on the team? This might be a bigger deal to the coaches and parents than to the kids, who might have no idea as to who Tom Glavine is...

Anyone know if they've patched it yet? My friend's first impression of it was "bugtastic".

Holy Moly! I never knew about this! I thought the Crimean War was an entirely Crimean affair.

I saw some more authoritative sources...but in Russian.

The kids are 11 and 12. Those who follow baseball recognize him. I got to say hello to him at a tournament in Charleston two years ago. He was very friendly and took a minute to chat with us.

Hi all,

quote:

ORIGINAL: bradfordkay

A friend of mine worked the dockyards in Savannah, Georgia where they were imported. He said that two out of three refused to start when they tried to drive them off...

quote:

ORIGINAL: USS America

Yep, Yugo's were here, and I saw a few back in the day, but didn't know any owner personally.

quote:

ORIGINAL: oldman45

I can't think of anybody that would admit they owned one, that was like admitting to owning a Gremlin.

quote:

ORIGINAL: rtrapasso

The Yugo got sort of a bad reputation where is was raised... a shipment of 20 were unloaded from a freighter (a ro-ro ship?) and driven across town to the dealership... i think 13 broke down.

quote:

ORIGINAL: AW1Steve

When I lived in DC, there was a major Art School exhibit at Union Station called "a 101 uses for a dead Yugo, where the cars were turned into every imaginable use. A coffin,a phone booth, even a confessional!

quote:

ORIGINAL: AW1Steve

In the mid 1980's they were trying to set up an assembly plant in my home town. It failed. Pretty much like everything else about the car.

quote:

ORIGINAL: stuman

A friend of mine bought used Yugo as his first car. It was dirt cheap, and he thought it would be sort of fun to own something " unique ". Boy was it a mistake. Something was wrong with it almost every week. All of his friends helped him out on various fix up projects. It was like being in a real time , ongoing shop project for all of us. He didn't keep it for even a year. And he was much poorer at the end..

Thanks for the "Yugo" stories guys!

It was as bad in USA as it was bad here (and please remember that you guys in USA had teh "de Luxe" version )...
