Quick unofficial and entirely inaccurate THREAD poll for our non-American colleagues:

1. How many of you watched even a portion of the Superbowl yesterday?

2. What would you say your home nation's viewership was? Compared to last year?

3. Why would you care?

4. Why would CB care?

1. Nope, not me. I went to bed instead.

2. I know of at least 1 person who watched it There have been a lot of ads for it here, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

1. Not at all. Saw USS America's post so looked up Aguilera's "performance" on the internet, but, sorry, just cannot get into American Football.

2. No idea, but never heard it discussed at work - except by American colleagues.

I saw the 1st quarter. Had to go to bed after that.

Hard to say. This year was the first year for a long time that the SB was shown in a "free" channel that you don't have to pay extra for. Guess we had more than usual as a result of that. Still, if I should guess, maybe 1-2% saw the game. Not more.

ETA: The newspapers here have greater headlines about Aguilera than the game itself. It's almost as an afterthought that they add that the Packers won.

So, no, it doesn't sound like they got their but kicked. The Campbells, who fought for the English (and have earned the scorn of many Scotts since then) were also known infomally as "The Black Watch", and also did OK at Culloden, but were on the losing side at Falkirk.

EDIT: Clan Campbell, also known (unofficially) as "The Black Watch" for their tartan, originally formed some six "Black Watch" companies, that were eventually organized into the 43rd, renamed the 42nd Regiment of Foot, and eventually officially the Royal Highland Regiment "Black Watch" when it amalgamated with the 73rd Regiment of Foot (1881). In 1931 it was renamed "The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)" and stayed that to 2006. In 2006, it was reorganized/renamed "The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS)", and is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Interesting....didn't realize it was a Campbell formation. That would of course make it not Scottish.

I watched it, even though the two teams were my most hated teams in the entire NFL. Sorta like watching a ManU/Chelsea match....can they both lose?

I missed the National Anthem for something more important, Star Trek.

Some bastard scrunched up five Mondays today and shoved them into one day. Damn him.

I watched Chelsea-Liverpool yesterday. I wanted Liverpool to score so that I'd go ahead of my mate in the squadron Fantasy Football (I'm up to 5th now ) but I wanted Chelsea to win in the hopes that Man Utd won't win the league.

I think I'm going to have to stop watching Top Gear. Their jingoism has stopped been funny.

Because, Comrade Red Mouse prat, I find cultural dispositions re: sporting events to be of interest. NFL-style American football has been growing in popularity in other nations, I was trying to ascertain whether that was manifest in some of our Thread friends.

I am probably going to join you in this. BBC America ran a TOP GEAR marathon all weekend because we are going to start seeing new to the U.S. episodes tonight. I saw a lot of what you mentioned when I watched the show. I saw parts of 12 to 15 episodes.

Those years when i was unemployed and or studdied i watched both the Super-Bowl and the Academy Awards when they were broadcasted here in Sweden. I liked the Academy Awards more. American fotballgames take forever.

A few years i skipped the game and just had my alarm set off 2hrs after it started and i always managed to see the halftimeshows. I actually saw the wardrobemalfuntionshow, but i never saw what happened since it happened so fast.

Oh, Lord; just had an epiphany.

In the 18th century we had Rum. It was on the ration scale and God help the officer who witholds it. In the 19th century, somehow, it was found to be bad so, no more Run.

In the 19th century we had Tobacco. It was on the ration scale and God help the officer who witholds it. In the 20th century, somehow, it was found to be bad so, no more Tobacco.

In the 20th century we have Condoms. It is on the ration scale and ... I will leave the rest to your imagination, but ... woof.

I didn't watch the handball, as you might have inferred from my history of comments about the "game". Even if I hadn't had a job to get up early for, I still wouldn't have.

Yes. A new security rule at job does not allow me to reach the forum while at work.
Lot of job in january prevented me a lot to get early to home. And i was a bit lazy on evening.

Sorry to hear about the job interviews mate, hang in there old boy.

Well, it give me a fair advice on what i am worth: nothing .
Worth nothing at work, worth nothing at game, worth nothing at sport, worth nothing in friendship (lost a friend for a stupid story),
and probably worth nothing at husband

How's Claire doing?

Any recovery of physic health will be very long. But it's slightly better each day.
Mental health is far better than this autumn, but there is still a long path to hapiness.

You, Josh and Clare, is everything OK ?

A bit lazy? You're doing nothing to dispel the stereotype of the typical continental you know

Don't you believe it, things might seem **** at the moment but I doubt you're as worthless as you say. Can't give you much advice really, I haven't had a job interview for 8 years and look where that got me I don't want to say the wrong thing in regard to your former friend, but if he's gone because of some minor stupidity then either he'll be back or you're better off without him.

Only Claire can decide on the last one, and if Claire has a problem with you tell her to come here and we'll stick up for you (even if you are French).

One step at a time, she's better than she was and getting better. No doubt due to her "worthless" husband who's been there for her the whole time.

Not bad thanks, still not sure what the future holds for me but hopefully I'll find out later this month. Clare and Josh are both good thanks.
