ORIGINAL: rtrapasso So, no, it doesn't sound like they got their but kicked. The Campbells, who fought for the English (and have earned the scorn of many Scotts since then) were also known infomally as "The Black Watch", and also did OK at Culloden, but were on the losing side at Falkirk. EDIT: Clan Campbell, also known (unofficially) as "The Black Watch" for their tartan, originally formed some six "Black Watch" companies, that were eventually organized into the 43rd, renamed the 42nd Regiment of Foot, and eventually officially the Royal Highland Regiment "Black Watch" when it amalgamated with the 73rd Regiment of Foot (1881). In 1931 it was renamed "The Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment)" and stayed that to 2006. In 2006, it was reorganized/renamed "The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS)", and is an infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. Interesting....didn't realize it was a Campbell formation. That would of course make it not Scottish.
