Having been invited to a superbowl party, i watched it (but missed the National Anthem)... i haven't watched a game in several years prior to this, iirc.

I dont follow the sport but I've watched the SB the last few years. Its usually a very exiting show. The game, not the halftime.

Quick unofficial and entirely inaccurate THREAD poll for our non-American colleagues:

1. How many of you watched even a portion of the Superbowl yesterday?

2. What would you say your home nation's viewership was? Compared to last year?

3. Why would you care?

4. Why would CB care?

Because, Comrade Red Mouse prat, I find cultural dispositions re: sporting events to be of interest. NFL-style American football has been growing in popularity in other nations, I was trying to ascertain whether that was manifest in some of our Thread friends.

Dont even try to pretend like you made even the slightest bit of sense.

Oh, Lord; just had an epiphany.

In the 18th century we had Rum. It was on the ration scale and God help the officer who witholds it. In the 19th century, somehow, it was found to be bad so, no more Run.

In the 19th century we had Tobacco. It was on the ration scale and God help the officer who witholds it. In the 20th century, somehow, it was found to be bad so, no more Tobacco.

In the 20th century we have Condoms. It is on the ration scale and ... I will leave the rest to your imagination, but ... woof.

This century it'll be the Playboy channel.

Well, it give me a fair advice on what i am worth: nothing .
Worth nothing at work, worth nothing at game, worth nothing at sport, worth nothing in friendship (lost a friend for a stupid story),
and probably worth nothing at husband

We'll have none of that, my friend. Theres not a person in here who thinks that youre anything less than a devoted husband and a great friend.

As for the other stuff, dont let it get you down. There are quite a few of us who can tell you what a mess the job market is right now. Employers are super-picky and cheap. I know people who were not hired because (the employers told them outright) that they decided to go with a candidate who was less qualified but was willing to accept a lesser salary offer.

Hang in there.

Check Cashing in OK, USA

Customer: “I need to cash my paycheck, please.”

Me: “Okay, may I see your ID?”

Customer: “Sure!”

Me: “Sir, this check hasn’t been signed.”

Customer: “What? Oh, I see. Hang on a second.”

(The customer signs the check in front of me with great flourish and hands it back.)

Me: “You know I can’t cash this for you, right?”

Customer: “Why not? It’s signed!”

Me: “Sir, this is a check from [employer]. We cash about half of their payroll checks every pay period. One, it’s not their payday. Two, this isn’t their logo. Three, this isn’t their bank. Four, you just forged a signature in front of me, on camera.”

Customer: “It’s a good check!”

Me: “Well, I’m sure the officer standing in line behind you would love to hear all about it. Did I also mention that we cash payroll checks from the city, too?”

I use to watch it on BBC years ago... didn't watch it since...

BTW, what did they do regarding Stig disclosure? Is there new Stig or something similar?

I thought it was a pretty good SB.

I am a NFL fan ( and college FB fan as well ) but I can see how someone who did not grow up with it could find it uninteresting. Having played it through junior and senior high, I appreciate aspects of the game that would not be evident otherwise I guess.

Hi all,

quote:

Connecticut man, Robert Michelson, busted after calling 911 to ask about growing marijuana

Robert Michelson, 21, was busted by Farmington Conn. cops after he called 911 to ask a dispatcher how much trouble he'd get in for growing marijuana:

A Connecticut man's plan to grow marijuana went up in smoke after he called 911 and asked how much trouble he would get into for growing the drug.

"I was just growing some marijuana and I was just wondering what, how much, you know, trouble you can get into for one plant," a not-so-bright Robert Michelson asked on Thursday night.

When the dispatcher asked if there was an active crime in progress, the 21-year-old answered "possibly."

Dispatchers traced the call to Michelson's home in Farmington, where cops found drug paraphernalia and a small amount of pot.

Michelson admitted he bought seeds and equipment online for growing.

He was released on a $5,000 bail. As he left the police station, he gave dispatchers two middle fingers.

"Presumably for doing such a good job," police said.

Wise words from history ... (?)

"An officer should be comely and above all else confident in his own dress and bearing. He should, where possible, eat a small piece of meat each morning with molasses and beans. He should air himself gracefully when under fire and never place himself in a position of difficulty when being shot at. He should eat his meals comfortably and ahead of his soldiers, for it is he whom is more important tactically on the battlefield and therefore he who should be well nourished. His hair should be well groomed and if possible he should adorn a moustache or similar facial adornment. When speaking to his soldiers he should appear unnerved and aloof and give direction without in any way involving himself personally in the execution of arduous or unofficer like duties. He should smoke thin panatellas except when in the company of ladies where he should take only a small gin mixed with lemon tea. He should be an ardent and erudite gentleman and woo the ladies both in the formal environment and in the bedroom where he should excel himself beyond the ordinary soldier with his virulent love making prowess.

Lieutenant General Hubert Worthington
Commander in Chief
5th Royal Indian Mountain Division
12th December 1907"
