Friday!

Could be cutting the day short. I think a buddy and I are going to make a run over to Bemidji. And maybe some walleye fishing on Sunday.

Fishing... Haven't been fishing for some time, despite even owning the licence (complicated procedure in Germany, you need a national permit and have to do a huge test... )

But:

Seriously!

About $10.00 here and your good for a year. North Dakota resident anyway. Catfish days on the river this weekend. I think there are some people from Germany in the tourament. After seeing your post it is probably easier to fish here.

This test is possible to succeed in, so you can get the licence. But it takes time and money.

On the other hand, you are forced to learn how to kill a fish in a humane way, to identify fish and to know their minimal sizes for taking them out of the water by heart.

So while it is typical German bureaucracy, it actually makes some sense...

I plan to go big game fishing off Ghana for many years. I guess you'll need a .44 at the end

For the fish or the possible pirates?

I guess this makes sense if your ultimate goal is to dissuade people from ever engaging in fishing or passing these skills on from generation to generation. Recreational fishing shouldn't need an entrance examination, German dudes...

Well, Germany doesn't want people to kill endangerd fish when they are too small to have bred yet. And to kill them in an inhumane way.

I am defenitly no treehugger and I'd buy a fur coat if it suited me - but I think every animal should be killed in a most "humane" way. So no needless suffering and as fast as possible (except when it is bull- or cock-fighting )

Yes. You are supposed to smash them with one descisive blow. You may have to train hard for it though

Yes. They do.

Even if they weren't - it would be unacceptable to let them suffocate instead of ending it with a good knife.

It is faster. I'd prefer to have my ending coming fast instead of it taking several minutes!

Edit:
Also, you are required to anestethize/benum every vertebrate in Germany before killing it. I have a special cudgel for that. You smash it on the head of the fish and then turn the fish. A fish always has his eyes on level with the horizon when awake. So you know when he is benum and then either stick the knife in his heart (though easy to miss and thus usually not teached) or you do the "Kiemenrundbogenschnitt" so "gill-round-bow-cut" where you separate the heart from the ateries by putting the knife through the gill openings onto the other side and cut down.

Blue eyes and black hair, yes. But her face usually "wouldn't be mine" as we say in Germany. But she "has something" (also German)...

And I like her nose and lips
