EDIT: And the public actually cares about what we do and ask questions. I'm still not sure I'm keen on them watching me whilst I work though!

I know that you've grown used to a certain working environment, but is it that difficult to pull your pants up so you butt crack doesnt show?

Beat me to it, cabron!

Great minds....

I may even be so kind as to post some of my photos from the San Diego area for y'all...

ETA: Full disclosure. I miscounted again to get an INP-hence the odd spacing of my last 3 posts. Self-recrimination and "auto dumbass" comments follow.

Dumbass.

If you had a chance to see the HMS Rose I'd like those pics please.

TE311 please.

Also, could you tell me more about how the historic markings for the aircraft are chosen?

I'll see what I can sort out for you.

The markings are sorted out somewhere above my head, I'm not sure who decides what they're going to wear, I'll try and find out for you. Usually they get a repaint when they hit major servicings, these are several years apart and done off unit.

The Lanc seems to mostly (but not always) be given the colours of an aircraft that achieved a high number of missions, she's getting an early repaint this time round though. She's most likely to get repaints with some sort of nose art, I guess a plain black bomber doesn't interest the public much. It's a slight shame as I'd like ED588 from 50 Sqn, but apart from the bombs on her nose she didn't wear any nose art.

The fighters are a mixed bag, some are pilots of note (P7,LF and PM), some are milestones for the aircraft type (PS) and TE and AB are both wearing markings they actually had during their combat careers.

Thank you!

Thanks Andre! It's a very well restored museum ship! I was aboard her three years ago. What's amazing to me , is despite her being a CVB (Large carrier) I couldn't stand up straight in her messdeck chow lines! I'm 6'3" tall. Tall but not extrodinary.

Sort of. A few things to try and sort with insurance as they're trying to weasel out of paying up

Work wise, I'm getting settled but there's a lot to learn, it's unlike any other unit in the RAF. Twelve (old) aircraft, five different aircraft types with five different marks of Spitfire and less than 30 guys to look after them all.

EDIT: And the public actually cares about what we do and ask questions. I'm still not sure I'm keen on them watching me whilst I work though!

BTW, as usual, we expect plenty of pictures!

Yes... they lost on Friday... against the French... again...

They won Bronze today (France took Gold and Sweden Silver) after all though...

At least in the water polo we took gold with all games we played won!

It was built for Sprior-sized people I guess. Low to the ground but more stable on their feet. I guess genetics takes over when one of your parents was a pongo.

Lo siento, vato. There were two sailing ships tied up at portside near the Midway. One of which was the San Diego Nautical Museum. I don't know why I didn't at least snap a few shots as I walked by.

Full disclosure: I'm (still) a dumbass.

Spitfire MkII (genuine BoB survivor and film star!)
Spitfire MkV (flew over Dieppe and Normandy and has confirmed kill)
Spitfire MkIX (flew over Normandy)
Spitfire MkXIV (also a film star)
Spitfire MkXIX (*2)

Hurricane MkIIc (*2)

Lancaster B.I (my favourite)

Dakota

Chipmunk T.10 (*2)

TE is mostly together now. You might prefer some pics of the Mk21 that's hanging around. She's sat minus her wings now as they've gone to be painted.

So, Dixie-I trust you didn't have to man the barricades, collect tickets or direct traffic for the Olympics as I suggested you might? I guess I-officially-owe you a round, mate.

Sheesh Leo. John sends me this stiff. I hope you know what he's talking about.

Was talking to a friend in UK about music. He’s probably as good as it gets. It was smoking cigars and drinking scotch and “what’s the best piece of music there ever was?” Well, there was a to do, about that one, but one piece of music came up every time. So we drank and smoked and ruminated and found this one.

Bolero, Maurice Ravel, Wiener Philharmoniker, Gustavo Dudamel, Yeah, I’m with Lady Beth on this. A small orchestra that makes it right. And when the brass ans especially the trombones, come in, I think Dudamel made that perfect. The best Bolero I have ever heard. Richard has a Polydor CD of it. You all just might want to go find it. It’s probably somewhere on youtube. Found it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KgpEru9lhw

Hey, how about Carmina Burana at UC Davis with Jeffry Thomas conducting? Serious dynamic range on this puppy, so turn it up as loud as you possibly can and hope to hell you have a couple thousand watts in reserve.

I submit....

Harz und Mund und Tat und Lieben by the Schoenberg Choir
Barbara Bonney's performance of Ave Maria
And if youre willing to include a non-vocal piece a Tokyo Philharmonic performance of Canon in D the details of which escape me.

Hector Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique for deep foreboding bass and clarion brass. Makes my skin crawl just hearing it. Very powerful.

What is a faber?

Completing a full page of posts without anyone else managing to break your run. This is named after the pioneer of the technique. A Faber can take many forms; a series of zen like questions or statements, pure nonsense or possibly even something that makes sense although no-one has ever tried that particular approach.

It is considered bad form if an attempt is willfully shoddy in execution though, single words are acceptable towards the end but an attempt to carry out a Faber using only single words will be met with disqualification by the judging panel.

An ambitious competitor may also consider going for an elusive double-Faber.

thank you. Somewhen, I'm going to write an article about the culture within THE THREAT for a scientific ethnologic journal...

I bet you americans don't have to get a hunting licnence with two theoretical tests about thousands of pages of knowledge, two practical tests about gun handeling and a shooting test?

Nope. That would be an absurd overreach of our Federal government.

In America a man is free to kill or injure himself due to personal stupidity and lack of preparation without the govenment sticking its nose in his business.
