Sort of. A few things to try and sort with insurance as they're trying to weasel out of paying up

Work wise, I'm getting settled but there's a lot to learn, it's unlike any other unit in the RAF. Twelve (old) aircraft, five different aircraft types with five different marks of Spitfire and less than 30 guys to look after them all.

EDIT: And the public actually cares about what we do and ask questions. I'm still not sure I'm keen on them watching me whilst I work though!

Also, could you tell me more about how the historic markings for the aircraft are chosen?

I bet you americans don't have to get a hunting licnence with two theoretical tests about thousands of pages of knowledge, two practical tests about gun handeling and a shooting test?

Nope. That would be an absurd overreach of our Federal government.

Good morning. Nice post Leo. I would flip out and ask to be on another flight.

Pretty sure thats not normal...

It looks like an OK repair to me. Damaged area is removed and there are no stress raising areas. If it wasn't safe then the crew wouldn't have taken the jet flying. Sounds to me like someone trying to get some cash from their 'experience'

OH! Me first! I was so distressed seeing the pictures and imagining the stress that must have caused the passenger that I will be suing Alaska airlines.

I may even be so kind as to post some of my photos from the San Diego area for y'all...

ETA: Full disclosure. I miscounted again to get an INP-hence the odd spacing of my last 3 posts. Self-recrimination and "auto dumbass" comments follow.

I used to live just north of there.  Camp Pendleton.  I did boot camp in San Diego.

I'll see what I can sort out for you.

The markings are sorted out somewhere above my head, I'm not sure who decides what they're going to wear, I'll try and find out for you. Usually they get a repaint when they hit major servicings, these are several years apart and done off unit.

The Lanc seems to mostly (but not always) be given the colours of an aircraft that achieved a high number of missions, she's getting an early repaint this time round though. She's most likely to get repaints with some sort of nose art, I guess a plain black bomber doesn't interest the public much. It's a slight shame as I'd like ED588 from 50 Sqn, but apart from the bombs on her nose she didn't wear any nose art.

The fighters are a mixed bag, some are pilots of note (P7,LF and PM), some are milestones for the aircraft type (PS) and TE and AB are both wearing markings they actually had during their combat careers.

In America a man is free to kill or injure himself due to personal stupidity and lack of preparation without the govenment sticking its nose in his business.
