ORIGINAL: Onime No Kyo I submit.... Harz und Mund und Tat und Lieben by the Schoenberg Choir Barbara Bonney's performance of Ave Maria And if youre willing to include a non-vocal piece a Tokyo Philharmonic performance of Canon in D the details of which escape me. ORIGINAL: I accept and admit your submission…. Got married to the Cannon in D. Know it well. I have Nikolaus Harnoncourt’s version of Cantata No. 147. Bach is excellent. But he is somewhat limited; maybe by his generation. He was the greatest of his time, but time flows. The latterly composers were more emotionally evocative. They were different and used music to reach more personal places. Thus I must put Bach on the pantheon, from which all else is built, but which does not quite reach the evocative heights of those who stand on his shoulders. Rather, he and Mozart made a radical transformation of music. So while I love Bach (all the Bachs), I just can’t put them into the category. But that’s just me. Richard actually likes Schuman and Schoenberg. Lady Beth likes Tchaikovsky and Mussorgsky. Go figure. The Ave is a different animal. It is not music it is a prayer. It is the most powerful piece of music I know. It is the prayer of those of us, most unworthy, for the Lady, of the Trinity, to intercede, on our behalf, with God the Father. I only know the first stanza, but I can sing it and taught it to my congregation. Ave Maria Gratia plena Maria, gratia plena Maria, gratia plena . Ave, ave dominus Dominus tecum Benedicta tu in mulieribus Et benedictus Benedictus fructus ventris Ventris tuae, Jesus. Would love to talk music with you, Mouse. Music is much of that which makes us human. Jw.eldredge@mediacombb.net. Please feel free to contact me; I speak enough Spanish, German, French and Russian to get by. Pretty sure this is for you, but think the other things were for Leo and Per. Don't know, probably wrong, but, ...
