Go for it. You know its real because they only list part of the proper name of the company but that part is in CAPS.

As a holder of Ford Motor common stock, I'm incensed. European operations have been a real drag on Ford's bottom line lately. Having a Two million Euro lottery (total = 10 million Euro purse) in a region that is a millstone for them is unconscionable!

Is someone going to get an angry letter?

Shift for gun sight and mouse wheel zooms you in. I assume you're using manual targetting?

Ah yes, mouse wheel. Thank you! To be completely honest, I cant tell. I know I tried pressing E (which is the default button) to disable auto targetting but I cant tell the difference and I dont know where the indicator is.

quote:

I've not got any heavies and only a few mediums, and none of those are Soviet. The Germans are good sniper tanks, the Russian stuff tends to be used as brawlers. Look for the stuff with the highest accuracy and penetration. Damage doesn't matter as much if you can't hit or penetrate the other stuff at long range. Tank destroyers are the 'proper' snipers.

I tried TD last night...I think I'm in love. Really awkward in city maps, but awesome on open maps. Silly question though, why would TDs be better at sniping if the use the same guns as the tanks?

quote:

From what I remember (or have shot at) from the Soviet line, the KV series are not a good choice for long range. The guns are inaccurate and (iirc have less penetration) compared to the Germans and the things are so big that it's easy to hit. But the guns do a lot of damage so get up close where the pentration doesn't drop away and shoot.

Ugh, just the sort of gameplay I suck at.

quote:

It's worth asking around the forums, there's plenty of helpful people (at least on the EU one) who know far more about Soviet stuff than I do. There are a lot of guys who have played more games in one tank than I have in total.

Also, on lower tiers don't forget to take some HE ammo. Most stuff has poor armour so the extra damage HE does to HP is useful.
Remember, as you go up the tiers your tanks get better. But so do the ones shooting back at you.

What's your username on the game? I might swing past the American server at some point.

Thanks! I'll PM you my name.

Elite is just a matter of researching all the potential modules for a tank. When you've done that you can either use the XP gained from battle to train your crew quicker or save it up and convert it to free XP (by spending gold). You pay for premium tanks, they always start as elite vehicles.

Ah, and here I thought it was a waste of money and XP. Thanks!

You don't want auto aim... it sticks with the target (usually the center of the tank) and follows it for you.. not allowing you to lead a moving tank... I use it every once in a while on a stationary tank I see from a WAAAYS away.. like a small arty unit...SU-26 for example..

I mainly use USA tanks and German tanks..

I use the M4 mainly (good mix of everything) and the M5, because I am working on getting the Chaffee, which is like 50k some exp points.. taking forever

I still think lower tiers require the most skill... the higher (6+) is all about gun size and armor...IMO.. could be wrong.. but that is what it appears from talking with peeps and poking around on the forums.. at the lower tiers..everyone is more on the same playing field, and the tanks aren't that much different tiers 1-4 IMO...

Martin, do you have some video saves from your combat in "World of Tanks"?

I've got some, although I haven't uploaded any yet. TBH a lot of them are probably pretty boring to watch I tend to play long range tanks rather than close in brawlers. So there's a lot of skulking in bushes and shooting off a couple of rounds before relocating.

Can you upload some possibly?

BTW, have you seen my question regarding possibility of two human players in one tank - is that possible 8I played this so long ago that i forgot)?

Leo "Apollo11"

Leo,

No its 1 player 1 tank as far as I can tell. The other semi-annoying feature is that its not axis versus allies. You can play as any nationality for either of the two teams. I's sure it created=s game balance and somesuch, but it grates on the nerves of wannabe historians like me.

Yes, before you go into snipe mode (shift), press X. That will lock your tracks, which is what you want in a turretless tank of any kind when sniping..

As for auto aim...in your setup in the garage or account settings, you can turn it off there I am guessing. I think I recall seeing a place, a button, or something that allows for auto aim to always be on, off, or selected by player. Press F1 during the game..and it shows you your HUD layout so to speak.. might even be able to do that from your garage..

Probably because they have a more stable platform or some such. Or because they need an advantage over the tanks in this regard. The TDs often have a slightly better rate of fire as well.

Well, the KV-1 is probably a good one to learn in. At tier 5 it's a bit of a monster, especially when you're facing tier 4 tanks.

I'd say it's more that good players stand out in lower tiers, you can win a battle pretty much on your own. In higher tiers the bad players stand out, you can lose a battle pretty much on your own. I've won a few games through my actions, rescued a few defeats and lost a few games (getting less often now though).

Once you start getting into level 6 and higher two things become apparent.
(1) You need to learn about weakspots and targeting. If you just aim and shoot a lot of stuff will just bounce rounds. The first examples of this are the KV-1 (tier 5) and Matilda (tier 4). The French tanks can also bounce a lot of fire at low levels.
(2) Things turn into a bit of a camp-fest (on EU at least). Too many people afraid to actually take any incoming rounds in case they dent their toys. It makes sense on tier 10 when repair costs are crippling but down lower it's annoying.

Identifier labels over the units you can see. Green for friend, red for enemy.

Eh, I can live with that. Its also not very realistic, tech wise. Like putting a 57mm gun into an AT-1 chassis (which was a Komsomolets tractor mounting a short barrel 75 iirc) would have blown the back hatch out with the recoil.

I have several tracks going at the moment. I pretty much gave up on the medium tank tree and was pursuing the heavy tank one, but I think I will switch to TD because it more closely matches my playing style. Still darn awkward in cities, though.

Excellent segway. Where are the weakspots? I have shot T-18s at point blank range in the side with a 45mm and gotten bounced. Matildas...dont even get me started. I've seen people sit there and take 20 shots from 3 level 3 opponents on the frontal like it aint no thang.

Wow. Interesting armor and gun platform you have there. I'd assume that a Segway would be a poor choice, but what do I know?

They have the Chi-Ha as a level 3. I think Segways are better than that even without bolt-on armor.

Matildas have the highest armor for their tier/size of tank of all tanks in the game.

Then how do you know if that tank you see is your friend or your enemy? Sticking to axis versus allies means that you can tell by the type of afv you are seeing...

Identifier labels over the units you can see. Green for friend, red for enemy.

It seems that makes spotting targets a little too easy, or am I missing something here?

SPrior is MIA. I think what happened was that he was walking down the street, minding his own business when suddenly....

Excellent segway. Where are the weakspots? I have shot T-18s at point blank range in the side with a 45mm and gotten bounced. Matildas...dont even get me started. I've seen people sit there and take 20 shots from 3 level 3 opponents on the frontal like it aint no thang.

Matildas have the highest armor for their tier/size of tank of all tanks in the game.

That explains it. What's the T-18s excuse?
