Morning tithe... was having a great game against the Dane, then one of his [replacement word] subs puts some torpedoes into Wasp, what game spoiler.

I lost Yorktown to one of GBLs subs. She sunk in San Diego. Then two days later Boise took a torp and is limping into Oz for repairs. Meanwhile my subs would be more use if they were the sandwich type.

Interview today..

Me - "How much do you think you're worth to this company, and what you could bring to it if we bring you on?"

Trader - "I would be able to bring a sizable portion of my current deck I believe. Of the 6 to $700,000 deck, I could see myself bringing $500,000 of that by a couple of years. I think I am worth about 3 to $400,000 of that"

Me - "We're not the New York Yankees son....think more of the KC Royals"

Trader - "I would like to make more than 5 figures a year, sir"

Me - "The majority of their players would too...

Trader - "...."

What's a deck?

And what job is he applying for?

Haha. A deck is someone's current trading "deck". It is a slang term for how much business they can bring...their "deck".

He is applying for a trading position. He trades corn, beans, wheat, milo..etc..

A bunch of cards.

One that pays more than 5 figures.

Aren't you paying attention?

Oh, thanks for clearing that up Andre.

Hey Jeff, if I bring you a set of Uno, can I have a 6 figure salary?

If you could make us money trading Uno cards, I'll pay you whatever you think you're worth.

Dude, mentioning the KC Royals is hardly good for incoming employee morale. I'm surprised the young gun didn't break down crying when you compared his future at your company to them.

At least you didn't compare yourself to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He is a big Chiefs/Royals fan, and I have known him for a couple of years...haha

Just wait guys... by early 1943 the situation will be reversed (okay, Des, I understand that you're playing the Guadalcanal scenario so maybe that one doesn't go into 1943). In my PBEM (scen 1), my allied subs have been driving ChezDaJez nuts. Yes, one of his sank the Yorktown off Sydney in 1942 and the Illustrious (or was it Indefatigable? - one of those RN CVs that is the equivalent of a CVL) south of Ceylon - but my subs have more than paid him back for that impertinence (now March 1944).

Still dont get it. Although you make it sound a lot like Pokemon or that Magic the Gathering thing.

Does this "deck" refer to skills, experience and market knowledge or is he bringing in actual commodities?

Nope. By baseball parlance, there's one too many 'crooked numbers' in that figure.

Your last sentence, yes. I never take physical deliver of product to my location..it's all paper. A deck is just what you said. Skills, knowledge, customer base that allows you to generate money...your "deck"

Not only am I a regular nerd, but apparently I'm also a network geek. Someone on Reddit posted this picture with the explanation that it was the IP address they found "the world's most dangerous hacker" at in the show NCIS.

I got the joke.
