It is OK, though, as there is an INP to celebrate!

Just to be kept advised, there is a pretty serious series of DOS attacks going on in the internet, that is really screwwing up major DNS servers, and slowing things down. From catching up today 3/28 that seems to have been cleaned up a lot. Anyone still noticing any major delays?

So Brits do this with their ship names as well as street names?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Vansittart_%28D64%29

Slightly OT, I wasnt able to find "vansit" in the dictionary. Anyone know what it means?

Do what? Name them after things? We're hardly alone in that you know old boy. Unless you chaps have started making up words to name your warships?

Lord Vansittart was chancellor of the exchequer in the 19th century. The destroyer was named after the first ship which, I believe, retained her name when she was taken up by the Royal Navy.

I'm sorry, I was going for the "second form toilet humor" (-Rowan Atkinson) effect. But perhaps you guys have evolved since that great man did standup.

Yuri,

Did you see the helicopter link I posted yesterday? Got some interesting / creative Russian language in it, I reckon. Check it out.

It's a V&W Class destroyer and the name begins with V. Damned sneaky.

I believe this is the third time The Thread has been restarted, if I remember the meaning of the exclamation points correctly. So, the count will be off if you haven't been here for a while.

With all my PBEM turns done (all two of them) it's time for some board gamey goodness. Time to retake the Falklands!

Not really. Most of it are exclamations of amazement and praise for the pilot. The one you posted where the crane drops a tank (or somesuch) had much more creative verbiage. They do keep mentioning something about it being "1979 technology". Not sure if theyre referring to whatever they pulled the engine off of or the design.

So we should expect names like Vainglorious, Whippoorwill and Whatsitsname. Gotcha.
