Meanwhile, in the Western Med the Royal Navy tries to initiate combat with the Italian convoy.

They roll a 3 - compared to the Italian 7. The RN finds its prey and chooses its combat type. "We got ourselves a convoy!!"

A surface combat is chosen and the convoy, unsurprisingly, is sent to the bottom of the sea.

After the battle, the RN return to base job done.

Good work on the AAR. I'm enjoying it.

Glad you appreciated the reference! It was either that or nick one from the US Navy "Scratch one Convoy".

Turn: Jul/Aug 1940
Impulse: 5

The impulses are moving along 1 at a time so potentially plenty more still to come this turn.

In a bid to get at the Allied convoys once more, the Italians send three submarines to the Western Mediterranean. This allows them to try and initiate combat. The rolls are 9 and 6... so no combat once again.

Damn..when I aborted the Italian Coast earlier, my 3 carrier planes have remained in the sea area. Don't know if this is a bug or I did something wrong

Apart from some shuffling around of units, there is little more the Axis can do. The German Army cannot afford more losses in France...

The French try and get some combat going in the Western Med by sailing three cruisers from Algeria. Campioni tries to intercept - they roll a 2 and the search succeeds. The cruisers join their fellow ships in the 3 sea box.

The French roll a 2 and the Axis a 5 for their search rolls. The French find the Italians and request units in sea box 0 (the Italian convoy) and 3 join the battle.

The French use their surprise points to increase their naval combat column.

The French are slightly luckier. They lose two cruisers, one damaged, one aborted and one half aborted(?)

Both sides decide to stick around. The Allies search roll is an 8, but this time the Axis roll a 2 and so get the choice of which section to fight. Surprise surprise they choose the 0 Section. Time for the RM to get amongst the Allied convoys!!

Needless to say, the battleships and cruisers of the RM choose the CW convoys and tear them to shreds.

At the end of the battle the Regia Marina breaks off combat and sails triumphantly for La Spezia.

THIS IS BAD....

Those three British carrier aircraft left at sea when the carriers aborted are stuck at sea and the game won't advance

Okay - by going back to a previous saved game I've been able to save the game - although in so doing the results of the Italian-French naval clash have come up very different.

The Italians did not pulverise the Allied convoys.
Not great but at least I can continue the game....

Phase: Reinforcement
Highlights for the Germans: a nice 6-quality Stuka, Rommel and a 7-3 Infantry....nice

Italy get a marine

Japan gets the Musashi and the Hiyo in the construction pool + a 13-range Zero.

The talking points for the Commonwealth are: Queen Elizabeth, a night-fighter Beaufighter and a 7-6 motorised.

The French get an HQ and two Infantry

The US get Indiana, South Dakota and Hornet in the Construction pool and a 4-quality Wildcat.

The USSR get three Infantry

perhaps in that situation you could use the die roll override option to bring the game back to your desired state?

I'm not at my computer so I could be wrong but I think in the player interface setting there is an option to set die rolls.

You are right thank-you. However I'm not going back now to change things a second time - I'm angry enough as it is...

Good to know for future though

I chose a naval with the CW but there are an awful lot of disorganised units... I feel sure I organised the majority of them?? I will have to check on this at the end of this turn. Anyway....

With the French I chose a Land and continued moving units to try and stop the Germans getting to Paris. That said, they only need some decent luck and I cannot really stop them...

The Italian Fleet is disorganised - the oil from Romania is not being saved... therefore there is not much for them to do.

The Luftwaffe try and ground strike Paris and the newly arrived HQ to the northwest... neither are successful, and the Germans get a baaaaaad feeling once again.

And the first attack goes in - and its bad news for the Germans. The 7-4 Infantry is destroyed and takes a disorganised with it...ouch!

The second attack is appalling - its a 3. The German motorised corps survives, one attacker is destroyed and all remaining attackers are disorganised.
