The magic of the cup at work. Van Gaal put out a strong United side so this was an excellent result - financially important for a club like Cambridge United who now get another money maker at Old Trafford.

After the 3rd round win over Bunley (a repeat of the 1962 final) today we face Leicester City (a repeat of the 1961 final). The "experts" are predicting a draw (with Leicester to win the replay) - lets hope they are wrong.....

Liverpool had some trouble today.

Even worse for Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham.

Spurs were totally predictable .

Man City was a major surprise but looks like their arrogant decision to get back from the Middle East 24-hours before the match backfired.

But Chelsea?? At home, 2-0 up.... just unbelievable.

Yes, they scored the expected number of goals: 2... But they swallowed 4!

I seem to recall you complaining about Eriksen.

Who was it that made the pass to Eriksen when he scored his second goal?

I take it you approve a Spurs player.

That was a very nice pass.

A very nice played and well fought match.

They played really well - not from a great football perspective - but from a never say die perspective. I suspect had it gone to extra-time we would have folded under the pressure - as usual.

I've noticed that Tottenham has played plenty of games the last two months. Will the schedule be as tight for the next couple of weeks or will the players be able to recuperate before the League Cup Final?

No - it actually starts ramping up as the Europa League returns. Spurs have to play in the EL on the Thursday then the League Cup final on the Sunday...... I think Chelsea play on the Tuesday before.

Spurs have played circa 40 games ths season already.

For a few years now, the transfer deadline day has been one long day of frantic deal-doing, reporters outside every training ground, interviews with Harry Redknapp leaning out of his car window - and best of all - Jim White (complete with de rigeur yellow tie) going bananas with excitement.

Today there have been about 3/4 deals involving premier league clubs....

I would have thought that there being no last minute affairs was a good thing. That the clubs were happy with how their squads look like. Not spending more money that they can't afford and so on.

It's not about the clubs - its the whole circus that goes with it - it's actually riveting T.V - in year's past you have never known what is coming next (like Tottenham getting VdV) .... of course to be riveting it needs something to be happening...

Yes, I understand.

All I am saying is that I am happy if the team that I support do not make any last second deals. I might become happy if they surprise me with a awesome deal in the last minute but in my experience the deals made just before the deadline are most often rubbish and the money spent would most likely have been better spent on the current youth squad instead.
