One more try on the enemy carriers. One squadron of Myojo Kamikazes 65 skill escorted by hundreds of fighters including the fearsome KAI Dinah. Remember, back when I first made this plane and it was escorting strikes, it never ran into opposition. Perhaps it is my lucky plane and the Allies will cut their cap back to nothing. Right.

Iriving Sa on night strikes at 1000 feet. Very curious to see how this works out.

CAP over Honshu getting weaker...that is life.

Over in Thailand the retreat is going well. It seems the Allies are forging ahead in the clear hex of death nw of Bangkok, in fact he hardly bombed it this turn. 6 AA there now...perhaps it is the quiet before the calm.

He did attack on the forward positions, got a 1-1 and a 1-2. Not bad results, the two tank divisions are making good speed, and I think the withdraw will go well. First group of troops building up on the new Bangkok line or moving into position.

Engine damage is getting perilous....stockpiles will last a little but not long.

Upgraded some Zeke Kamikazes to Georges today. In a couple of days they will go on very high altitude kamikaze strikes.

Allies keep spotting my merchant ships in port, now I have to keep them in escort TF as I can't really defend their base from port attacks...especially at night.

Will probably stop building Irving Sa, 170 in the pool, and I will need the engines for fighters. Still making some Oscars and Tojos and Nick B.

The end comes...run for the hills!

Are not kamikazes hard coded to arrive at 9000ft? If i remember correctly what ever orders You give them they will always arrive over target at 9k.

I am pretty sure I had Zekes try from 38k, and Myojo from 30k. Now, I will have to go and double check.

It is a good day, and only getting better.

Have to move sending my files to onedrive because of file size.

Get a blowout on my car; had to change the tire right in the middle of a busy street, no shoulder at all. 15 minutes to get the spare on, but it is a itty bitty little tire.

Next up eye appointment if I can get there on the itty bitty little thing.

Then fix the blown out tire.

Then probably return home to watch poor Japan savaged again.

Could be worse, it could have been raining. Or, it could have happened to my wife, in which case I would need a new rim to.

OK, here's a thought.

Why not try attacking at really high altitude, with your best fighters on escort? Try setting a small strike package with 3-4 fighter groups for escort. All under the same HQ, all that jazz for air coordination. You might try some kamikazes at 100 feet as well. I'm talking like... Georges on escort at 30K with good pilots. The George is so superior to the Hellcat, you should be able to wear down his CAP a little bit? The goal being to make him run off and get more planes (he has a finite number and you "don't"), or to fatigue/damage his planes and pilots if he does stick around for another day.

I'm going outside to do some car work myself. Need to unclog the exhaust on my 97 Chalkboard Altima so I can sell it. You wouldn't happen to be in the market, eh?

What is the definition of stupidity?

Doing the the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Only three myojo but they were all shot down.

I'm really shocked that those escorts didn't take more than 1 allied plane. I don't have the A6M5c in my mod, so no clue what that does. The Dinah's are a waste with terrible guns. The Tony is one of the best fighters in the game? The Frank and the George are no push over either.

WTH?

In an effort to maintain morale I am:

sweeping and bombing a base in the Andamans. I hope to not run into fighters, and nail some search planes and naval attack planes.

attacking the deathstar again this time at 100 feet with kamikaze zekes. Only five hex range so they might not go. Next up will be Georges at 41K.

attempting to nail some destroyer/destroyer escorts south of etorofu.

using Irving Sa again in a night bombing run.

back to defense in the air...only using louse A6M2 to escort the kamikazes in at 100 feet. Not a good match for the Zekes, but it is what I have to spare.

Fog of war. Very unreliable first reports. He lost lots of Corsairs, but he also used them heavily to sweep so who knows where he lost the most from.

I have seen other games where 70 Tojo escorted 27 Lilly Divebombers thru a 400 plane Hellcat/Corsair CAP with no losses to the Lillies, which then took down about 6 CVEs.

I am susre his pilots are very good. His radar is good.

But the George/Frank guys were my best pilots, no slouches.

You have to figure out how you can penetrate this kind of cap; and this is a itty bitty little cap; cap of 1000 fighters is to be expected in 45. Better/faster bombers would help I think.

Edit: He lost 18 Hellcats and 9 Corsairs and 1 F4F-4

I was slow in doing the turn....not so the Allies they are motivated!

I believe I lost close to 1000 strategic vp last in the last two turns. Ouch. Could have been much worse I guess.

Fusan is building up with lots of troops to be ferried over...

A lot of Japanese Merchant shipping is now up river in China or along the north west coast of Korea, that is where the Japanese Combat fleet is in hiding. I had thought he would dispatch ships to nail these guys, but not so far...I think I could ambush them pretty well.

It is tough with slower bombers to get through. You have to have some luck that a good portion of the bombers will go with your escorts. Different heights might be causing you problems against such a big CAP.

Launching from all one level 9 base would be preferable I think, and at this point, if you're trying to get some coordination, I'd just pick an altitude an keep everything there. Something that works with the DB. Like 15k. Then have one token group set to 1k and another set to 30k. Something like Peggy (T) or Frances that are quick and durable. It That's enough to send the CAP scurrying and increase interception times if they arrive before the main package. If you had 100 350mph bombers (Judy/Grace) arrive with that last fighter group that only had three myojos I bet a good number would get through.

Thanks for the advice, you are the master at penetrating CAP!

That entire raid was at the same altitude and from the same base, Nagoya.

No other attacks at all. Perhaps if I staged a high low raid too...tomorrow it is a 100 foot attack....if he is within range.

I think I will probably either adapt Obvert's tactics, or simply start staging one attack escorted by Franks and grind down the Allied CAP. Losses on today's attack amongst the fighters weren't bad, certainly close to 1-2 perhaps even closer to 1-1. So I might as well get rid of the other junky escorts and attack every day with two to three squadrons of Franks and one of bombers and grind the CAP down.

The Divine Wind fails. I guess I wasn't really expecting much...and the Jugs come in in the afternoon...and two destroyers attract the American CV bombers...and the butchers bill is very nice.

On March 11, a scant 10 days ago, Allied plane losses were at 15,280. Its raining planes out there!

Several days after the flank was turn, and everything seems to be working out swimmingly for the Empire. No panic, things look good on the retreat right now.

What could change that? Paratroop drop? Pretty well defended against them...not losing sleep over that. Invasion? Again, not worrying about that.

Could hold here for a lot longer if I could contest the air. Sadly, not to be. Actually thought we would be here in 1943, so if I can extricate the ground troops, which I think I can (knock on wood), feel pretty good here for now.

He should have taken all of the SRA in Dec 43 when I started abandoning it. I am still in Oz (not much, but still there).

For Vic, here is the A6M5c. Hard to explain what a difference this plane has made for the Empire. Pre Zeke, I was getting totally destroyed in air (not like now, which is partly destroyed), post Zeke his 4E bombing now would suffer losses, Lightnings lost their luster (George really put an end to the twin tailed devil).

But the Zeke...wish I would have gone on and r&d the A6M8, but I didn't. Not a bad plane, and comes with a decent bombload. Another mistake made by wishful thinking.
