If I had read what you had posted earlier, I would've told you to shock . You would've gotten 3:1 odds in this particular case and routed him.

But in any case, I would've told you to do so (or rather, that I would have shocked) because: the adjusted odds you got in your last attack (well over 1:1); his supply chain is longer; and there's just no way he got forts up to 2 again with only 2 divisions' worth of organic engineers (that's about 60...) and an AF unit (8?). Even if he had gotten forts back to 2, it wouldn't have been enough to shift the odds in his favor.

I think the window for 3-4 IDs to run rampage in SOPAC are way past now. The OZ army actually upgrade from a militia to proper IDs in spring 42. Very light TOE but not that different from a standard Jap ID.

Most important factor though is forts. I have had 10 months to build forts. All important places have level 5-8 forts.

My thought was to use the 3-4 Divs to take a base, something like north of Rockhampton, using follow up formations to occupy the smaller ports and inland bases.

Given your fort building this might become very hard but you cant have a Division at every potential target.

I'm trying to make sense of running KB & substantial support shipping into the area, at this point he has to be careful in his use of resources, both shipping & oil.

Yeah, I know. Hindsight and all I should have. But even a successful shock could have put a lot of hurt on my troops. And Jeff has at least 4 other IDs in the area. Don´t want to beat up my troops so badly I have to go on the defensive again. I like having the initiative.

There will be more opportunities even if he moves out.

I don´t think that is doable any more. There is over 3000 Allied AV in OZ including 3 good divisions and some powerful armored units. He would need at least 2000 AV to have any chance of staying.

I can´t really understand the reasoning for him starting something down here now either. Especially not when things arn´t really going his way in India and NORPAC. He has stalled in India and is actually on the defensive there and NORPAC has completely ground to a halt.

Opening a 3rd front right now makes little sense. Especially in a place where he has absolutely zero infrastructure and most of the USN are focused.

PS. Havn´t gotten the turn back yet. Jeff gave me a heads up we will be slowing down the pace for a while as Christmas approaches. I don´t mind that as I´m leaving town next Sunday and will be gone for a week.

I'd bet the farm that she isn't there. That might be an xAK, though. Maybe. Or it might be an Ansyu-class PB.

I don´t have a farm to bet! You might be right. If I can get some additional reports that would be nice. This is how I kept track of the KB in my game with Erik.

Every second turn or so I got a CV spotted at Tulagi or "130 ships in Tulagi harbor".

You must have A Grade Coastwatchers in your game, in mine they are Z grade and that is being generous. Either they missed out on their shipment of spectacles, or they indulge in some wild mushroom stuff before going for a look at a port.

I think coastwatchers were the first people to synthesize LSD.

Sad to see Templeton is now made in Indiana. My other favorite rye, Bulleit, is also made there. Must be the same outfit.

Cheers,
CC

Bulleit is made in Lawrenceburg.

Whoops, you're talking about the Rye, not the Bourbon.

They're both made at Midwest Grain Products in Indiana, which also produces many of the whiskeys used to make Seagrams 7.

Interestingly enough, Templeton Rye is made by taking a standard receipe rye whisky from MGP, and then adding artificial flavors in Iowa, where it's bottled.

I got CVs spotted at Lae, Gasmata, Kavieng, etc., while I was fighting for Milne Bay and Shortlands, when I knew for a fact that my opponent's KB was not anywhere near that close to the front lines.

Maybe not the farm from me, but I got a CV spotted constantly at some crap pot on the New Guinea coast... every other day or so. When I finally sent some B24s to investigate, they just found a an xAK.

Thats odd. I´ve never gotten anything like that! Only reports on actual CVs from coastwatchers have been quite reliable. At least in my game with Erik.

This is actually the first time I´ve gotten it since then.

I have sometimes gotten the same AKE--by name-at two bases 400 miles apart on the same day. I pretty much ignore coastwatcher data.

Still, one would think they could differ a CV from an AKE. Right?

Jeff didn´t have time to finish the turn yesterday. Hopefully I´ll get it tomorrow. I did get the replay and CR but unfortunately the replay was the wrong one. The CR was correct though but doesn´t tell me enough to do an update.

What I do know though is the Japanese abandoned Asansol! Only a BF remained which was wrecked. First real allied victory is a fact. Huzzah!

How much fuel is being used for this operation? It seems a lot more than anything other than Noumea is worth. What sort of trouble can you stir up in the Indian Ocean and along the West Coast to take advantage of the KB being in the SW Pacific? See if you can get the Japanese to expend even more fuel reacting to your distant operations.

No CVs in that gaggle of TFs? Looks like a massive raiding force - maybe he fell under the "need to do something" trance!

Probably a big amount! Lots of shipping moving around by the looks of it!

What can I do now? Its the question. I´ve intentionally put it off for now. We will only be able to do 2-3 turns before the Christmas Holiday. It will be a good time to ponder how to use this situation to my advantage!

I have a couple of options that looks interesting:
1. Counter attack in CENTPAC. (Hilo or Christmas)
2. Counter attack in NORPAC. (retake Coal Harbor)
3. Amphib landing in the IO (Sumatra? Burma coast? Adamans?)
4. Reinforce SOPAC and try something there.

None of these can be instantly put into motion and will require 3-4 months to prepare. The reality of things is that I can do very little short term. I´m basically still in a defensive stance and need to reprep and/or wait for PPs to buy out more units.

I´m also seriously behind in base expansion as much of my engineering capabilities has been focused on building forts rather then preparing bases for coming offensives.

Lots to ponder over Christmas!

No definitive sightings. But I would be very surprised if KB wasn´t among those ships!

Beware, Joc. Any major amphibious undertaking probably requires your carriers. Don't take chances now unless you're absolutely certain the KB is far away and that LBA isn't a risk. Japan remains dominant at sea and in the air through '42 and well into '43. Don't give Lowpe a carrier battle victory when he's trying for auto victory.

I didn't say that well, Joc. I know you know all these things. What I mean to say is this: ward off the feeling that you have to do something or ought to be doing something now. Be very careful with your carriers.
