It's just showing there is a global shortage of manpower. The system doesn't allow to prioritise some formations so much, that the rest will be starved. So my divs have to make do with what is on hand. Some got two weeks off the line, but I lacked spare divisions, so some are fighting without breaks since June 41

The best way to prioritize manpower is setting your unit ToE levels and disband un-needed units that soak up manpower and equipment.

Disband anti aircraft units.....also check out the German cities ...if the Russians get that far the city's ack-ack wont make any difference.

Ya that pocket will hurt...the only good news is, it will take him 2-3 turns to wipe it out.

The saga of the Orel pocket begins. It will hold out for many weeks, and will require redirecting two panzer corps to assist the infantry, because without that help they would spend whole summer mopping up. And the number of tied infantry is huge.

As for the Crimea I thought it went very bad, at the last minute I had to send one panzer corps away to help 4.PzA with the souther pincer near Orel, and I found it hard to break level 3 forts in the Crimea with just one infantry and two panzer corps.

quote:

ORIGINAL: Shermanny

You are going to be scarily vulnerable come March 1942. The bulges on either flank of Moscow both invite encirclement. The face of his salient at Moscow might be thinly held, and in that case, he can attack out of the face and create a situation where your lines get thinner and thinner on both flanks.

Long, thin lines and exposed salients are opportunities for the highly mobile Germans.

If you were to pull back in a timely fashion, especially in the North where there is nothing that much needs to be defended anyhow, you could give some depth and mass to your defenses elsewhere.

I was afraid cpt flam would heed the advice of Shermanny, who was spot on

I would be interested in the German strength...if what I think are your numbers, it will be a limited
offensive.

Once the Soviet defensed were unhinged, there was always a place to attack with no forts. I couldn't resist temptation and have ran down my motorized troops to 30% TOE and beyond :)

It will take all summer to get them back to 50%. Its a pity that we cant direct all reinforcements to
specific units.

Three turns on refit resulted in one motorized division go from 40% to 70%, so that's not bad. It's just hard to go above the army average %, because of built-in starvation prevention.

a new push by panzers bypassing part of my def

Hard to resist going the path of least resistance when I see hexes with zero forts and clear terran versus four hexes deep lines of level 2 forts in good terrain

Voronezh is threaten and first line

A few MPs short to cut off those troops between Kursk and Belgorod... One of many instances to come Mostly due to the fact that closing encirclement would require breaking main line of resistance with level 2 forts and for that lone panzer or motorized divs are too weak, while a huge number of infantry is tied by the Orel pocket. I'm short on troops to cover rapidly expanding frontlines.

Crimea is doomed for now

On the first turn of Crimea operation I thought it will be a disaster, because of the one panzer corps sent away to help near Orel. But it turned out to be successful. Panzers are probing into Taman peninsula, despite shortage of infantry to cover their rear and deal with remaining Soviet units. If I remember well, that one group on the shores of Azov put up quite a fight (multiple defensive wins) and I had to send panzers to finally destroy them.

Sign of poor leadership on German side: panzers in the mud, penetration without encirclement. Always a few MPs short to fully execute a plan. But this has to be done to keep up momentum and roll the flank, giving them no time to dig in.
