Häxan, (English titles: Haxan, The Witches or Witchcraft Through The Ages) is a 1922 Swedish/Danish silent horror film written and directed by Benjamin Christensen. Based partly on Christensen's study of the Malleus Maleficarum, a 15th century German guide for inquisitors, Häxan is a study of how superstition and the misunderstanding of diseases and mental illness could lead to the hysteria of the witch-hunts. The film was made as a documentary but contains dramatized sequences that are comparable to horror films.

Good historical film.

Sadly Billions is coming to an end next week - great twist to this week's episode

But Jamestown starts tomorrow. Might be worth watching?

Started watching Jamestown. Difficult to tell where this will go but it seems watchable at the moment. As per Versailles and Victoria I need to get on the internet and try and find out how much of this is likely to be true or at least based on fact.

Watched The Imitation Game a few days ago. It was a nice enough movie although, I suspect, that it took some liberties with the historical event it describes.

So it is fortunate that Mel Gibson wasn't involved in making the movie...

Indeed, since in war movies Mel Gibson tends to kill the english. Having Alan Turing singlehanded win the war for the GERMANS might be stretching things just a tad too far.

As to The Imitation Games, I found it ok (and that is after adding points for a Norwegian director, and the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch plays the lead). To me the best part was actually the end, which points to how the system was back in the days. "No matter if your work greatly helped save the civilized world, if you are gay, you still have to be punished..."

How are you finding it? I must say I am quite pleased with the storylines so far.

The storyline is good, and it is almost killing me, not knowing what is behind the locked door
Still undecided on the new companion, but I guess that might be because Ms. Coleman did a very good job.

I have enjoyed all of them apart from Thin Ice. Not the best Dr Who episode I have ever seen.

Best wishes,
Steve

With Season 7 about to launch in July, I finally decided to watch Game of Thrones to see what all the fuss is about. I have watched the first two series and I have to say I am hooked. There are some great characters, great acting, and the story lines are, for the most part, gripping in a I-can't-wait-to-see-what-happens-next type way. What is particularly refreshing is that the longevity of a character does not appear fixed, and key players are to be found 'bumped off' with surprising regularity.

The violence is quite strong, as is the language, and it does not hold back on the rumpy pumpy, but all in all, its well worth the investment in time watching!

Spooks (MI5 I think in the US) was another series not afraid to kill off major characters. The face frying incident was a particularly interesting way of doing it.

Finished season 3 of the second Battlestar Gallactica series (the one from earlier this decade, not the one with Lorne Greene from the 1970s). Pretty good so far-certainly watchable. Don't know if I'll find the energy for continuing on with the entirety of the series though.

Mrs. Chickenboy and I are woefully behind some other well-reviewed series. So I ask the 'greater collective wisdom' of this forum the following: "Should we try the Walking Dead or House of Cards next?" Never seen either series and have avoided all substantive discussions of same as well.

What say you all?

The last episode certainly escorted a good many major characters off the planet, didn't it?

Yes it did. Oh well I still have a few characters I'm rooting for left.

I suppose it is time I went back to Game of Thrones. I've only watched two seasons.

Anyone seen Wonder Woman? My eldest little warspite is keen to see it (big Marvel fan and is pleased there is a heroine for a change) and given, from the trailers, there is a bit of a WWI type story going on I thought I might take her to see it.

Apparently not....

A very good film, thoroughly entertaining and Gal Gadot is perfect for the part.
