I suspect the purpose of this surface group was to gain Intel on our naval forces in the DEI. We have deliberately kept them quiet both to keep incidental damage down (most ready for action when needed) and to keep their whereabouts uncertain.

• It almost feels like we are putting together a defense in the Pacific.

• CV Yorktown will leave San Diego tonight in company of 6 destroyers, bound for Pago Pago.


Pacific
• A sub is spotted just off Suva right after two merchantmen sailing without escort made that harbor to deliver critically needed supplies.


New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain
• KB 1 is again seen, in a new position likely to both shake off our subs and prepare to move through the Jomard Passage to menace Port Moresby. We have two subs with 1 and 2 hexes of KB1 so naturally the enemy carriers are doomed.

• Boise will redeploy to eastern Australia to bolster the upcoming defense of Port Moresby. The old DD's with her will convert to APD. The DD's bringing Yorktown to Pago Pago will then redeploy to Australia and join the ANZAC-USN squadron there, freeing the DMS's which accompanied Pensacola and the convoy. The DMS's will escort those empty convoy ships and others back to CONUS.


Philippines
• The Empire continues to ignore diplomatic protests.


DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya
• KB2 is 1 hex NW of Singkawang.

• Amid several invasions in that area enemy warships are at Namlea. Air assets have been adjusted somewhat to improve our attacks.

• Our ARD have for the time being evaded Imperial subs.


China
• Even if we patch the defense of Ankang in time, the road from Yenan to Sian might undermine defense of Sian.


India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• Deploying a defensive force to the forest between Pegu and Moulmein. This can only last until Singapore falls.

• Perhaps a little over two weeks for Yorktown to reach Pago Pago. Let's hope action begging for USN carriers waits that long.

• KB1 in the same position as yesterday and USS Pompano is trying to make contact.

Small victories.

• The Dutch squadron was spotted at Batavia by a "carrier aircraft" and although no carriers are currently spotted there was brief sighting of a TF with a CA, a CS, and various destroyers by one of our subs. A second squadron of fighters has been moved in on CAP.

• Mostly maneuvering. Some pretty heavy artillery is killing troops with hard won experience at he door to Sian.

• BB Royal Sovereign has arrived at Aden and will proceed to Colombo.

• Our aircraft in the eastern DEI made many attacks on invading warships and convoys but got no hits. Enemy Zero's were a major obstacle and downed several aircraft.

• The part of the Dutch squadron not in port at Batavia will sortie to the Indian Ocean out of range of KB2 unless it braves the mines in Sunda Strait. Like wise the two RN TF's at Soerabaja will head into the Indian Ocean. The RN TF at Darwin will move east of Timor. All four TF's will be ready to rush KB2 is opportunity arises.

I would think Soerabaja won't be safe for repairs very much longer.

Incursion at Palembang. I had been thinking the Empire would capture all air bases within range prior to assaulting Palembang but now that analysis is in doubt.

Status: offline 		So, how decisively are you going to try to defend Port Moresby? Your last screenshot of the base is of the 23rd december I think.

How much Av/ fortifications do you have there? How much are you willing to expend in terms of ships/aircrafts, if needed? Will it be an opportunistic "let's see if there's a chance to hurt the Japanese a bit" plan? Or are you seriously willing to commit resources here?

Fortifications are 2 + about 30% but engineers are few right now. Supply will continue to be dear and quickly critical if the Empire invades. I plan to pull out the cats and have fighters staged on the mainland to fly in when needed, just to save supply at PM.

Much depends on the Empire's timetable, and they aren't talking.

• No scouting on 5 of the Empire's fleet carriers for several days.

• I am considering assigning the USA 34th Inf Rgt, a component of the 24th Inf Div, to the defense of Port Moresby. Pickings are very slim. This update of babes did more than just reorganize the Australian Army along Bdes (no combining into divisions), it also adjusted the starting experience of many combat units in Australia. Quite a number start at 30, a few at 35, and a few at 40. USA units are likewise in pitiable shape. The 34th Rgt is experience 51 and carries the added advantage of being unrestricted (US Pacific Fleet).

• Still battling Imperial subs up here. We get some likely small hits now but have not had any of our ships hits in quite a while.

• We are beginning to pull back from the Changsha area. This is painful but I want to preserve the bulk of the Chinese Army's combat power and it is too easy to get mauled in the open areas behind Changsha. It will be at least tomorrow night before we get the next turn, so time for a little parlay.

This turn and last turn I debated sending the fighter and torpedo bomber air groups at Soerabaja to Batavia. All fighters have been taken off CAP and set to 3,000 ft, the same as most bombers including the TB. A few bombers are at 1,000 but mostly those are the single engine light bombers. I did not make the transfer this turn, nor last (obviously).

I can muster about 30 fighters for escort from Soerabaja but one of those groups has low morale; would it fly? About another 10 fighters at Batavia, but at either base we wind up being over AV support which AFAIK reduces the number of planes that fly.

We have subs tasked to intercept KB2 in its present position and any route it might take except transiting the Sunda Strait. Two open (shallow) ocean hexes have been mined, but I think KB2 already passed through one of those without incident.

The image below shows Batavia above and Soerabaja below. There are also single and two engine bombers at several other bases. The intent here is to show the potential for getting torpedoes on target. There are also 3 more TB at Denpasar.

You're looking at them. There is also a 3-plane squadron at Denpasar. So all 27 planes are Vildebeest's.

There's a squadron at Sydney that was a squadron plus a detachment. Both parts had losses and I got them combined to the parent squadron which is about half strength now. Of course they are out of theater.
