June 21, 1942 This post should bring the AAR current. I haven't had a turn back in the past day. Lowpe hasn't logged on to the forum either, so he may just be busy, but he was going at 1-2 turns a day recently. The reason this may be significant is that I went for it a bit last turn. I'll explain more in a bit. Growler got in for a shot at the KB, but still coundlt get past the escorts. He is persistently keeping them at Miri though. The more intel I get the more worried I am. The KB is showing 143 fighters and 275 bombers now, even without Zuikaku. The IJN sent a big TF of CA/CL and 8 DD toward Mersing and took out a decent ASW TF I hd there. Not only did he hit them in the night, but the TF must have been on a more aggressive setting than he usually uses, because they stuck around for the morning and sunk two more ships. I messed up my ASW settings, obviously, since those ships had too high a tolerance as well. Bombardments showed a strong IJA presence at Kluong, and I won't be getting into that until the IJA supply there runs low. At Taiping, however, we got a slightly positive result, and have a significant troop numerical and quality advantage for the moment. This opened up what I'll be trying during the current turn I sent yesterday. I'll outline it with a map in the next post. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR June 21, 1942 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Time Surface Combat, near Tioman Island at 51,83, Range 8,000 Yards Japanese Ships CA Mikuma CA Suzuya CA Aoba CL Yura DD Arare DD Kasumi DD Shigure DD Shikinami DD Oite DD Asanagi DD Okikaze DD Shiokaze Allied Ships DM Breese, Shell hits 1, on fire DM Tracy, Shell hits 5, and is sunk DE Starling, Shell hits 1 Maximum visibility in Overcast Conditions and 53% moonlight: 8,000 yards Range closes to 11,000 yards... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Johore Bahru at 50,83 Allied Ships CL Hobart CL Perth CL Achilles DD Thracian DD Stronghold DD Dewey Japanese ground losses: 109 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Non Combat: 12 destroyed, 6 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Guns lost 8 (4 destroyed, 4 disabled) Vehicles lost 5 (3 destroyed, 2 disabled) Airbase hits 2 Runway hits 22 Seagull V acting as spotter for CL Hobart -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Night Naval bombardment of Johore Bahru at 50,83 Allied Ships CA Exeter CA Devonshire CA Canberra CL Glasgow CL Mauritius DD Fortune DD Arrow DD Cassin DD Downes DD Bagley Japanese ground losses: 131 casualties reported Squads: 2 destroyed, 0 disabled Non Combat: 17 destroyed, 5 disabled Engineers: 1 destroyed, 0 disabled Guns lost 30 (18 destroyed, 12 disabled) Vehicles lost 6 (3 destroyed, 3 disabled) Resources hits 1 Airbase hits 6 Airbase supply hits 2 Runway hits 12 Port hits 3 Port fuel hits 1 Port supply hits 1 Walrus II acting as spotter for CA Exeter CA Exeter firing at 56th/A Division -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Time Surface Combat, near Tioman Island at 51,83, Range 20,000 Yards Japanese Ships CA Mikuma CA Suzuya CA Aoba CL Yura DD Arare DD Kasumi DD Shigure DD Shikinami, Shell hits 1 DD Oite DD Asanagi DD Okikaze DD Shiokaze Allied Ships DM Breese, Shell hits 11, and is sunk DE Starling, Shell hits 23, and is sunk Maximum visibility in Overcast Conditions: 20,000 yards CONTACT: Japanese lookouts spot Allied task force at 20,000 yards CONTACT: Allied lookouts spot Japanese task force at 20,000 yards CA Suzuya engages DM Breese at 20,000 yards -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASW attack near Miri at 64,87 Japanese Ships DD Yugumo BB Kongo CA Kako CL Tenryu CL Jintsu DD Harusame DD Arashi DD Hokaze DD Akikaze DD Matsukaze DD Uzuki Allied Ships SS Growler, hits 1 SS Growler launches 2 torpedoes at DD Yugumo Growler bottoming out .... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Kluong (50,82) Allied Bombardment attack Attacking force 39388 troops, 662 guns, 459 vehicles, Assault Value = 1410 Defending force 45869 troops, 496 guns, 293 vehicles, Assault Value = 1408 Japanese ground losses: 18 casualties reported Squads: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled Allied ground losses: 117 casualties reported Squads: 2 destroyed, 8 disabled Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 3 disabled Engineers: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled Guns lost 3 (1 destroyed, 2 disabled) Vehicles lost 7 (3 destroyed, 4 disabled) Assaulting units: 193rd Tank Battalion 16th Australian Brigade 21st Australian Brigade 19th Australian Brigade 18th British Division 25th Australian Brigade 17th Indian Division Defending units: 18th Division 5th Division 55th/C Division 6th RTA/B Division 55th/B Division 55th/A Division 4th Tank Regiment 4th/B Div /2 2nd Mortar Battalion 21st Air Defense AA Regiment 3rd Ind.Hvy.Art. That 20mm cannon is so much better than the inaccurate 37mm of the P-39D. These are the guys in this group after the turn. Some new aces! (One side note about some of the early war Allied pilots is the low defensive skill. I've been rotating strafe training to get the 50exp/50air/50def pilots better, then flying them in rear CAP to bring exp up).
