I desperately wanted a positive test for bragging rights and to get two weeks off for my staff and me.

What's the worst that could happen to you if you misspelled Pakistan "C-H-I-N-A" on your test request? After you got the presumptive positive then you could amend the paperwork.

ETA: If it meant anything in terms of patient outcome and I had to decide 'bureaucracy versus patient outcome' that's an easy choice. I think you probably feel the same. The bureaucracy can sit and spin.

I'll remember this the next time I visit my doctor..."I just came back from that country where they have all the cases of that whatever-it-is...yea right, it was China". Bound to get priority treatment that way.

Do they have pretty young nurses in quarantine?

Self-inflicted limitations. The development and production of test kits was delayed by denial that the problem could reach the US. Not enough kits to go around is the reason for strict criteria for use. Britain has drive-through self testing. I presume the driver pays a fee to cover the cost.

When I was in an isolation room, the nurses did not have to dress like that. Before that, I had some pretty nurses - unfortunately they were already married.

Of course, later on some pretty young ladies would come into my room and would take my room mates pants and undergarments off . . .

I'm not asking why the present situation exists. I'm asking why-as the end user that is ultimately responsible for patient outcomes-another 'workaround' isn't considered.

Nope, the pretty young ladies worked for so much an hour. None of them turned down my offer of candy . . .

Their job title? Certified Nursing Assistant.

So I bought some "asparagus crowns" (that is what they are called) because my existing plants are getting long in the tooth and it would be nice to have some fresh vegetables on day 42 of the quarantine. It said "guaranteed to grow!" on the package.

I work the soil...plant them 2 inches down just like it says..and I put the "crowns" just sticking above the ground. Then I go in to work this morning..."you know, those white things kinda look like roots?"

Let me guess: your favorite part of the day was "sponge bath in bed".

In Germany they grow the asparagus a bit and then cover the (still rooted} spikes in loose soil so they lose their green colour in a few days. They dig them out and sell them to restaurants for "spargle" (SP?), a delicate, tender asparagus usually served with a white sauce. Delicious!

Unfortunately, no. I always showered myself although I did need to have help to put a plastic back on my right foot which was healing after surgery. I supposed I could post a picture for Zorch . . .

You can also cover them in straw. I would not use hay because of the grass seeds. No, not that kind of GRASS!

The first sign of old age is . . . I forget. CRS = Can't Remember ****, at least lately.

I know that the first sign of middle age is when a broad mind and a narrow waist trade places.

No Covid 19 symptoms yet but we are going through the vodka too fast. Maybe I can order a delivery and then swab down the bottle?

It appears the KB has disappeared into the Philippine Sea. An exuberant sub commander claims a sinking of Hiryu (they always do stuff like that). This is certainly false as there are no "ground" IJN AC losses. I will try to put some subs at possible recovery ports but there are too many to have much success.

Most likely, KB will detach Hiryu and then beat feet down toward Rabaul. It's about 45 hexes to be within striking range of Buka. Most likely about 4 days but they might need fuel too. We will have to suspend operations at Buin before then. They could fly off bombers to Rabaul or Kavieng before then, of course. I doubt they would base valuable naval air crews at Rabaul while it is under bomber attack.

AF damage at 25% at Rabaul. Bombers appear to be gone but still 50 bombers at Kavieng. Heavy bombers at Rennel stil in good shape so we go on. Jap transport force at Kavieng. Picking up? Dropping off?

Interestingly, the Japs seem to still have 135 Zekes (or other types) and lots of Netties at Kendari. They are not taking the bait and moving the Netties to help out at Rabaul. Oh well, at least we can have fun breaking things for a few days.

Quite a productive morning. Planted a 5 gallon camellia and a bunch of succulent cuttings and hauled the pots and soil around. Vietnamese glazed pots. They just let the glaze run down randomly on the pot but they are surprisingly beautiful. It was a bad idea to fight a war with people that make such beautiful pots. It's 12:03. Starting on vodka tonic to increase prodcutivity.

What do you call the lead potter..."pothead" of course.
What do you a potter with a full beard..."Hairy Potter"
What do you call a potter when first seeing Black Angus cattle..."A potter calling the cattle black"
A potter drinking vodka out of his own work..."Pot shot"
A chicken cooked between two pots...."Chicken pot ply"
