If you decide to leave some units to make a stand on Ceylon, Trincomalee has much better defensive terrain than Colombo. That more than makes up for the forts you might build at Colombo.

I am starting to think Ceylon won't really be in danger in this game. We will see what the next turn brings.

Not taking Kuching or Singkawang right away is really asking for trouble as Japan. An AIR HQ at Singkawang by Dec 10th will basically suppress any Allied traffic all the way down to Batavia, unless they want to get torpedoed.

You have a wide-open highway right now down there, you're clear all the way to Singapore. I don't get it.

Sending out a couple of destroyer only task forces looking to intercept whatever is coming our way either to Mersing or to Sinkawang/Kuching. My guess is Kuching. Flank speed run hoping to get back into Singers and cover...

Boise is making another two day flank speed run...Deathstar should be safe, it is undetected and pretty far away. Should refuel in 3 days. RN Destroyers will merge with Deathstar too. Saratoga is starting to get close...

Pulling back from reinforcing Wake, dispatched mines from Pearl by sub today for Wake. Sub transports delivered a load of supplies at Wake too.

Setting up a sub wolf pack attack...might get there on day 2. All will be there on Day 3.

Setting up restricted air search and the P40e go back on naval strike at 100 feet with Cats dropping torpedoes too

Got my first Ace, over Rangoon yesterday.

Set up a big bomb run for the next turn.

Cat search slowly getting established in the Pacific.

He appears to be focused on the Midway/PH area, and perhaps further northeast from there. At least his opening move seemed to not be clearly focused on Palembang or Singers.

I am trying to feed him stuff to keep his interest there, admittedly I fed him a bit too much yesterday. But I considered them throw away troops and if it keeps Japan focus on his KB and the Pacific for another turn or two or three...then it is well spent.

For example there is a steady stream of ships spotted from north of Marcus west to Luzon...they are now almost all xakls, but he doesn't know that.

I got some sigint that the 4th Division is enroute via APD to Hiroshima/Kure. Incredibly good news for a variety of reasons. I am thinking about everything I am seeing, and I guess I can hold Singers and Palembang for a long time unless he hits Palembang on the next turn.

If he is smart, that 4th Division is just a sigint diversion. But then again, he might be trying to attack big Canada Land and do some strategic bombing on the US mainland. Prepare Prince Rupert for that if you have not done so. Also the mountain base just a few hexes east as well to prevent paratroopers from taking it. The two bases on Vancouver Island as well.

Hmmm, paratroopers shock attacking an armoured unit in mountains . . .

Having bombed the US and Canada, taken Alaska in previous games you can rest assured that the West Coast is more than ready right now. With all the restricted AA units and troops there really is no reason why it isn't for every AFB game.

Oz has at least 4 AA units on the way, some shockingly close, plus fighters from the West Coast. The first of the dive-bombers showed up in Oz, but it is ahead of my training program.

Japan is really wasting their air force...for no real gain. Most losses over Singers and Rangoon.

254th Armored unloads at Rangoon safely...

280 AV unloads for Palembang safely...100 AV already at Palembang.

Tulagi falls to a Naval Guard unit...

Well, if he is trying to invade Portland, then I would guess that Ceylon is safe.

Have fun with the reinforcing units if you get them. If nothing else, your pilot training program will have a lot of units!

He is too far south for Portland, Coos Bay and Eureka. There have been troops moving there, but Coos Bay take a bit of time to get to.

Well, we boosted naval search around Eureka and Coos Bay, with each of them getting a destroyer squadron, with CL/DD SAGs following up.

SAGs sortie from Singers to nail a Kuching Invasion, trying to time this to get three interceptions over two days, plus a sub surge and mine drop at Kuching, and a Seagull strike.

Miri is being bombed by 70 dutch bombers, with recon over the last few days, should hit some oil I think.

My deathstar might be in trouble, as I misjudged the ship refueling by a day. He should have some intel on where they are, but no sighting. If he watches the replay at max speed, he might be clueless. There is a sacrificial xakl fleet to the west and south that might distract him as it is sighted along with a lonely xak. We shall see...deathstar has gone dark except for maximum CAP.

First supply unloading at Midway,

Supply might make Wake this next turn...

Singers is up to 130K, forts 2+, fighters strong

Burma jumped to 31K supply

China jumped 10K supply up to 188K, I have reinforcements on several Corps and Base Forces, first aerial supply trips started from Ledo

Palembang tops 60K supply

Attack at Ichang, and bombing, two best divisions are shocking

I sure don't know where the IJN CVs that raided Luzon and then trashed Hong Kong's Merchant fleet got to.

I have a very good idea where the weakened KB is.

Many years ago I played a 2v2 game with Seydlitz as my partner. We had an odd mix of who did what and he had all the AMCs and old CLs. He sent the whole shebang to the West Coast and sank a few cargo ships then ran into a SCTF with BB Idaho and some DDs. Eventually all the AMCs and CLs were sunk... along with Idaho. Not an even trade in my book. I was a little hacked off about that.

Never had good trades using IJN AMCs as raiders....at game start they simply have bad Captains, & almost any single destroyer can sink them. Even with decent Captains they still can't handle a destroyer.

I guess you could use the AMC to refuel the CLs, they are so short legged I wonder what Seydlitz was thinking.

If the AMC has a float plane and you capture a base, then you can use it like an AV. Otherwise, I use the for invasions and Fast Transport duties.

Agree on the AMCs. I like them for amphib ops but putting them in harm's way is a real challenge. I did ask him that question but I cannot recall what he said (must have been 09 or maybe 2010). It was right after he deliberately invaded USSR in December 41 and did an AAR for that game. Thankfully that was not in our joint game. He dropped the game not long after and I kept it as a 2v1 vs Rob Brennan and LoBaron. Got to 45 and was a fun game. Had a marvelous late game attack on an Allied invasion of Hokkaido. Kongo, 2xCA and 6xDD. Kongo and the CAs were magnificent. Anyway enough nostalgia... sorry for the sidetracking.

Auckland got their first American Ground troops today. I am going to send them to Australia, and from there to ABDA.

Here are some hijinks in the South Pacific. I really would like to keep Tabiteuea, but have no aerial search there yet to coordinate the ambush.

Next turn I will have three sub patrol routes up, and will hopefully get some warning if Tabieteua is about to be invaded.

Remember that searching planes do a 4 hex 360 search too. So day 1 the Cats will have a limited search because they just arrived, but day 2 they should have a full day of searching.

A second group of Banshees arrived in Oz, would it be great to use them out of Rabaul? Maybe not, since a shore bombardment would surely come in from the invading forces...having them at Port Moresby, which now has plentiful supply...that might be interesting.

From memory, those Banshee pilots will be more of a danger to themselves and the airfield base support personnel than the enemy for a few months yet!

Started preparing for an invasion of Hokkaido. If I grab the southern most base, it will wipe out hundreds of resources daily...and I actually might be able to pinch the Japanese on resources eventually.

Just a reminder that resources (as well as LI/Ref/Oil) are not wiped on capture, but have a chance of getting disabled. The chance is not particularly large when you are capturing a scarcely defended base. And there is no doubt Japan is capable of driving you off Hokkaido in 42. Also AFAIR Sakhalin south had even more resources than Hokkaido south

I tried routing some of the magic TFs into either Kuching/Singkawang. But they either gets roughed up by CD or air. Assuming we do not have KB hitting Singapore, is there a way to land in relative safety in turn 1?

There is no CD units in Singkawang in stock scenarios. If you want to land in a light-CD-protected base you just include some CL/CA into your amphibious force to draw fire and cover transports. Heavy CD - better do it some other way or bring overwhelming surface force

I have enough trained to the high 30s low 40s already. They are filling out the squadrons as we speak. Good enough for merchant to CL work (IJN CLs have really weak AA this early).

I was thinking of using one of the Allied engineer heavy units as a disposable. They might do the trick? It is a crapshoot, but worth it I think for throwing Japan off their mojo.

BTW, preparing for Sakhalin north and the oil, too. Wasn't going to go Sakhalin south as I have run out of units. Maybe I should buy one or two? Hokkaido south is really more of a diversion, but I would like to get it to work, too.

Don't obsess over the VP. Not now, at least. Allies have to throw the IJ off their game, plain and simple. Throwing away some land units is well worth it.

A little glimpse into the operations in the Pacific...

I will probably send the 161st Regiment forward to Wake...I think there is a window, but will likely proceed it with some supply xaks just in case.

I can now set up supply convoys from Midway to Wake...for a little while.

Cats at Wake, Midway, and with the next turn Kure Island.
