Deliberate attack #2 at Silchar gets another 1:2 but does drop forts to 4. Another 8000 IJA casualties, mostly disablements. 15th Div takes most of the hits again and will need to stay out of at least the next few attacks. No leadership bonus for the IJA stack in either of the first two attacks which might have pushed it to 1:1. With a bit of luck and the help of the 1st Tank Div (34 miles out) the next attack could get a 1:1 result. Lots of the IJN carriers and a few CA and DD started their 4/43 upgrades. As this is clear terrain it is very tempting to try a deliberate attack here once all units are back in full supply. No obvious leadership (+) bonus in this attack either, but forts are dropped to 4 so that makes it a success. Airfield bombing is keeping the airfield damaged so these forts should only drop from here. Allied adjusted defense: 5349 – the adjusted AV here of 5349/1306 is about 4:1. Last deliberate attack it was 5:1 so that is encouraging to see. Japanese assault odds: 1 to 2 (fort level 4) Combat modifiers Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), leaders(+) Attacker: Japanese ground losses: 8950 casualties reported Squads: 54 destroyed, 723 disabled Non Combat: 5 destroyed, 93 disabled Engineers: 3 destroyed, 47 disabled Guns lost 65 (5 destroyed, 60 disabled) Vehicles lost 63 (5 destroyed, 58 disabled) Allied ground losses: 1815 casualties reported Squads: 3 destroyed, 87 disabled Non Combat: 85 destroyed, 41 disabled Engineers: 92 destroyed, 5 disabled Guns lost 21 (4 destroyed, 17 disabled) Vehicles lost 38 (24 destroyed, 14 disabled) Assaulting units: 15th Division – nearly completely disabled. All other units are still in decent to very good shape so this battle will continue. Defending units: I Australian Corps 6th Australian Division 7th Indian Division – took more losses so is in pretty rough shape now 9th Australian Division 267th Armoured Brigade – the new unit since the first attack. It took some losses but helped the defence hold together. Without it the AV ratio may have been 1:1, so well played to the allies for pushing it forward.
