I suggest restarting those ships, you do not want to run out of tankers and the US submarines only get better and more numerous.

It’s mostly the late 1944, 1945 arrivals that have been switched off.
I’ve halted them on the assumption that Japan won’t own the distant oil centres or refineries by that stage.
Don’t need tankers if there is nothing to fill them up with!

You can always build them up to almost being finished. A day or two left, then finish as needed. They would make a nice CAP trap . . .

CL Kashii takes a torp while commanding the Tonan Waler task force. She’s not in danger of sinking but will need to stop at Manila for repairs.

A total of 7x Nick-C lost to all causes, mostly write offs from 4E .50cal damage.

KB with 7x CVs plus the BB Div 4 task force (Yamato/Musashi) are spotted near Milne Bay.
The BBs are lining up to bombard the Allied beachhead at Port Moresby tonight.
A CA Div will go in with them, every bomber that can fly, then another deliberate attack by 18th Army.

RADM Miwa was rudely awoken by the torpedo explosion shaking CL Kashii.
This is the Tonan Waler task force so the old CL did its job screening the big tankers.
10 of the 23 float damage is major, so this task force will divert to Manila and RADM Miwa will transfer his flag to one of the other ships until the repairs are complete.
There are USN subs everywhere now, so the IJN Grand Escort Fleet might try routing the merchant convoys along the China coast for a while.

No USN torp hits today!
Night bombing continues over Dacca.
Supply is flowing to Jessore which finally gets to fort level 1.
Helped by Yamato and Musashi, the deliberate attack at Port Moresby gets a 3:1 result but no surrender.

Another day, another Tanker lights up the night sky. This one was a Std-C TK in the Makassar Strait.

The attack at Port Moresby gets another 3:1 but the LGEN commanding I US Corps refuses to surrender.
Assault Value is dropping fairly quickly in the 24th US and 2nd Aus Divs, but if they need to be zero to surrender this will take at least a few more attacks.
IJA 40th Div is a little fatigued (about 40) but will all recombine tomorrow with the last squads to fly in.
The Infantry Divs are left out of the fight tomorrow with only a few small units and aircraft to bombard.
The next ground attack will go in the day after when the Yamato Div and 1x CA Div will be back to provide naval gunfire support.

No USAAF bombers flew in India, only RAF bombers with close to even Nick-C losses for RAF Liberators at about 5-6 each.
The USAAF are probably just resting up for their next big stunt...

The veteran 1st and 11th Sentai were let off the leash to sweep Patna.

2nd Aus Div is down to Bn strength while 24th Div is Regt strength.

Finished with my pilot culling for the end of Oct '43 which included checking upon whether fighter units will upgrade to Frank's. All will. Whether you wish to have all of your fighters SR3 or not, is up to you.

Thanks for checking.
Franks are doing well and the SR3 doesn't seem to be an issue at the moment.

3rd Air Army in India will be the priority for Frank-Rs.
4th Air Army in PNG will take their reconditioned Frank-As, as some Sentais are still flying Oscars.
1st Air Army in Japan will fly Oscars and Tojos for advanced training.
2nd Air Army in Manchukuo will fly Nates for basic training.

Could be if the tempo picks up.

Was tempted to order an all callsigns shock attack at Port Moresby, but it will already take a while for the IJA units to recover as it is and IGHQ is already concerned that the Allies will arrive again before the troops have time to recover.

In separate news, here is the list of Aces.
IJAAF have all the slots on the combined list due to the heavy fighting in India.
The IJAAF fighter corps are being worked hard in India but the quality is still high, with all front line fighter pilots being kept above 70 experience and 70 air skill.

IJN aces are shown separately, with many earning the right to serve on a CV by qualifying as aces in land based units.
Once the IJN fighter pilots join the Combined Fleet they don't get to see much action, but they've had a chance to test themselves against B17s and B24s recently.
Most IJN fighter pilots on CVs are 80+ experience veterans.
Only the new CVLs and a couple of the CVEs still have some pilots with experience in the 70s.
All front line land based IJN fighter units are also still in the 70s for experience, but losing a big carrier battle would change that overnight as there is very little depth in the IJN pilot pool. Pilot reserve depth won't improve until the higher replacement rate kicks in from 1 Jan 44.

The Allies at Port Moresby are all but zeroed now. The 34th CER surrendered.
Screen shots were just black squares... turns out it is because the dodgy old laptop needs some sort of upgrade that is now taking forever...
I hope it still works after...

CVL Mizuho finally finished conversion.
It had been stuck on 1 day to go in pierside mode for a few days until I put it in readiness and paid the 3 day tax to get it back into service that way.
I won’t call what happened the “b” word, but the dockyard workers were not performing as expected.

The Allies lose abobut 25x 4E bombers to all causes from unescorted attacks on Akyab Airfield, the Yamato Div at Milne Bay and KB(!) near Port Moresby.
No bombs hit IJN ships as they were bombing from 20k’.
Musashi’s AA gunners shot down a 4E so will paint a silhouette of it on one of the funnels

Lost a PB to a sub torp, which is better than one of the TK it was escorting.

Port Moresby deliberate attack got 38:1 and HQ I US Corps surrendered.

Daylight 4E bombing of Akyab continued. I tried a Nick/Tojo combination on LRCAP but losses were about even.
Franks on LRCAP will try tomorrow and should do better.

This is the state of the Port Moresby garrison / attack force.
Fatigue is moderate and hasn’t shown a (-) yet, while disruption is still low.
They have enough supply for another couple of attacks with 11k of supply in a task force just NW of Buna, heading towards Port Moresby with coast hugging orders.

Routine turn with no major excitement.
USN sub missed a big AK with supply and troops heading to the Marianas.
Air war was 9-6 in favour of Japan, including a B17F shot down by Yamato’s AA gunners.
637 TD Bn was destroyed at Port Moresby, HQ I US Corps surrendered yesterday. The LGEN refuses to identify himself...
Just the 2x Infantry Divs left but they are both showing 0 AV on the combat animation.
The attack today got 93:1 odds, so Yamato Div will save its ammo with just a CA Div to bombard tomorrow.
KB will also withdraw to replenish and upgrade some more units to A6M8 and D4Y4.

Orders won’t take long then I’ll crack an Asahi and catch up with a few pics and reports in the AAR.

About even air to air kills between 4E bombers and Nick-C again, but then 9x Nicks were written off due to battle damage...
I don't think the mechanics are trying hard enough, but it probably doesn't help that the forward airfields under 3rd Air Army are still a little low on supply.

The exhausted Allied defenders at Port Moresby still hang on.

3x Allied task forces are spotted 20 hexes east of Majuro on their way west towards the Marshalls.
Not much detail yet, but the sub screen including a number of Glen subs are concentrating onto the expected route and they will be closer to more Emily search arcs tomorrow.
HQ 4th Fleet has a number of task forces near Kusaie that were lining up to bombard the Allied positions in the Marshalls in two days time, but that operation might be adjusted or postponed, depending on the patrol reports tomorrow.
KB is at Manus Island with full air groups and will now move to Truk to fully refuel and be ready to react.

The Allies edge another 5 hexes closer to the Marshalls.
The first Allied carriers are spotted with reports of many CVLs in a task force.
No sign of the CVs but the Int Staff are all warning that they have to be nearby too.

Decisions need to be made prior to entering orders tonight, whether to react and if so, with what.
Being so close to auto victory on 1 Jan 44 is a big factor, as while there will be a chance to score some points in the next week or two, there is also a big risk of losing more than are gained.
Should be interesting times ahead.
Any mistakes now could be punished with strategic consequences...

Found some CVs while entering the orders, maybe!
The Jakes based at Wake Island spot them, but no Allied fighters or bombers are flying?
Wake Island defenders won’t last long if a USMC Division is about to be dropped on them…

Glad to hear that, because when the turn comes back the 10x research factories will be locked in as production factories!
Plus 6x Frank-A will upgrade to build 16/day.
I’ll build 16/day for about 6 months then reassess the aircraft and HI point pool sizes.

Just got the turn back but it will be about 7 hours until I can run it...
Hoping for a quiet day of shadow boxing...

5x USN Battleships, 4x CA and 3x CL flatten Wake Island damaging most of the CD guns.
No follow up amphibious task force spotted and the USN fleet CVs are still not spotted.

9x Frank-R were built, but the 10th factory mustn’t have finish putting the decals on...

Ships of the Wake Island Service Division survived their first day at sea as they try to escape back to the Marianas.
Ships include an AV, AD, AG, ACM and 2x AMc split into two task forces with a single AMc each scanning all arcs for subs!

24th US Div finally surrendered and the Port Moresby hex is clear again. Destroying that Division scored about +160 points in Allied ground losses today.

IJN subs all miss their targets (mostly DDs) in the Marshalls with two being sunk in return. A third sank from damage received yesterday.
Not having surface search radar is probably leaving them at a huge disadvantage compared to the DDs and DEs that are sinking them.

USN CVs still aren't spotted, but 100 fighters just appeared at Wotje so must have flown in from CVEs lurking in the background somewhere.

All IJN CV/CVL/CVE task forces have met in the same hex near Kusaie Island with 3x surface combat task forces.
Only some task forces are showing signs of being spotted. The main CV and BB task forces still look to be unspotted.

A few more IJN subs get smashed up in failed attacks on surface combat task forces.
No air strikes by the Allies in the Marshalls yet, but more CVs are spotted.

The IJN CVs will move to a position that will allow a concentrated range 8 strike tomorrow if a target presents itself in a particular hex.
Some Betty and Frances units are ordered to join in.

KB and Frances strikes in the Marshalls were an anti-climax, but they sank an LCT, SC and hit USS Aaron Ward with a torp.
26x Hellcats are shot down for the cost of 4x George-2 sweepers.
I'll post the 4th Fleet battle map here with 13x enemy task forces spotted mostly around Wotje, including CV, BB and CA.
101 enemy fighters spotted at Wotje so KB will stand off to avoid sending strikes directly into that buzz saw.

The Korea Army stack disappeared from Jessore and reappeared at Rangpur less 3x AA units who will now follow.
They took all but 377 supply which is great news.

11th Sentai are rewarded as the top gun flying Regt as the first to upgrade to Frank-R. They “withdrew” to Tezpur to collect them.
That will leave about 40x Frank-A in the pool and will allow 4th Air Army to start upgrading its Tojos and Oscars to Frank-A.

This was the KB strike.
1 torpedo hit from 15, but against DDs that’s not too bad!
It will now be interesting to see how the Allies react.
Will they surge forward to try and take on the KB or run away?

The enemy task force labels show the biggest ship spotted in each.
101 fighters spotted at Wotje, 35 at Kwajalein and 1 at Roi-Namur.

To start the turn, an IJN sub that was sunk by DDs but it showed Allied shipping was in the target hex.
Then this sweep showed even better news with relatively light CAP over Roi-Namur.
VRF-6F were no match for 70+ experience IJN pilots flying George-2.

KB withdrew to the west to try and break contact but the CV task force is still spotted 4/7.
The other task forces with KB are not showing any sign of being spotted.
The Allies are still focussed on protecting whatever they are doing at Wotje, presumably withdrawing the battered assault force and replacing them with a garrison force.
KB will try take 2 days to move the 15 hexes to get into the launch position shown, with max range 8 set on the strikes so that D4Y4s can join in.
There is a good chance that there will be at least some small Allied ships inside the strike zone.

George-2s will sweep from Ailinglaplap at 20 fighters spotted at Kwajalein.
Betty, Frances and Nell units based at Kusaie and Ponape will stay on naval search patrols tomorrow before launching strikes in support of KB the day after.

I'm not going for a knock out blow here, just trying to nibble around the edges.
The risk of losing lots of IJN pilots is high and there are barely enough to fill all existing units, with lots more IJN air units arriving over the next few months.

DD bombardment of Ailinglaplap destroyed 3 and damaged more planes, so the sweeps against Kwajalein had a bit less punch.
George did well despite being outnumbered.
Pilot losses in the George units that swept were 3KIA, 1WIA and 4MIA.
Two more pilots qualify for carrier duty.

Night Naval bombardment of Jaluit at 134,120 - Coastal Guns Fire Back!
68 Coastal gun shots fired in defense. The only unit at Jaluit is the naval fortress that can’t move. The 6x 12.7cm guns got more than 10 shots away each before they were suppressed. With the airfield at 0(0) I wouldn’t bother invading Jaluit if I was the Allies so it has not been reinforced. The starting base force det from Jaluit was moved to Mili which now has a 3(2) airfield and level 6 forts, plus 272 assault value from 2x SNLF +2x Naval Guard units and the Mili naval fortress. Mili is the most heavily defended atoll in the Marshalls so if the Allies land anything less than a Division they could be given a bloody nose there.

If you can position a sub, even a minisub, in the hex your MIA pilots may be recovered. Just give the sub the appropriate Threat and Aggression levels.

I’ll give that a go.
Just need to find a nearby sub that isn’t in danger of sinking!
