One of the better divisions in China.

Experience across the board for IJA units is gaining quickly due to the success on the battlefield.

Operations accelerating around the PIs as the amphib bonus runs close to expiring.

Each turn the IJN loss an AK or 2 due to DD ambush, air attack or the real killer CD guns and mines.

Again I could be more cautious here which would reduce losses but unfortunately it would burn up too much time. By 44 and 45 entire fleets of Japanese tankers and AKs/APs get vaporised so to be honest as long as it is for a good cause, the losses just need to be sustained to maintain momentum.

I would agree with your assessment ...

Thanks Pax, it is impossible against a skilled player like Lowpe when he uses subs, DDs, mines and CD guns in a layered and creative manner not to sustain losses when you go into harms way. I just know the horrors of 44 and 45 too well now, so these losses are not really material. Mind you, I don't intend to lose a CV

Exactly. I would argue that as a IJ player if you are NOT losing some xAK's early on, you aren't pressing the attack as hard as you need to .... Not suggesting you throw them away either, but losing 2% - 5% per amphib operation would be sustainable losses ... Even against the AI, I would think that is as good of measure of your operational tempo as any. A few losses means you are pressing about as hard you can, fewer means you are waiting too long and thus losing days ...

Well I'm losing plenty of AKs so on that metric I must be thumping him

I see Lowpe has updated his AAR so that has spurred me on to at least try and win the propaganda battle.

Amphib bonus is running out and yet so many places still to visit.

Stuck on Ceylon and Diego Garcia at the moment thanks to a couple of annoying Indian Brigades which I thought wouldn't be there. Another a week or two required before they are despatched.

KB has been an incredibly potent weapon system thus far in this game and I see no point not to continue maximising its usage.

This turn it was unleashed on the trapped shipping at Singapore port, specifically targeting the crippled Repulse which is annoyingly soaking up a large number of 250kg bombs dropped by land based a/c.

A reasonable outcome- perhaps another day or two of air strikes will achieve the required aim. Won't use the DBs though, just the Kates.

After sinking Repulse, KB will re-provision and then set sail for its next objective which will be a special one

The orders are being cut for Yamaguchi whose next mission needs to bring the Allies to their knees and end the war!

As night follows day it is only matter of time before the USN returns to the Central Pacific and no doubt has a crack at Saipan or Marcus.

One to 2 more months are required to make this a costly and dangerous exercise for the Allies.

Time for the weekly update

Took a chance and decided to seize Norfolk Island on the cheap. Supported by strong naval forces including multiple BBs but no CVs.

The tactic of pushing out the BBs in front of other surface and amphib taskforces is working well. If they run into Allied CVs they most likely get hit by a few 1000 pounders which only do superficial damage.

An early war tactic only.

I am guessing 1 x US Cv is around Oz and the other 3 are probably training up their airgroups around Pearl.

The British contingent is resting at the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

Annoyingly stalled at Ceylon.

I didn't expect between two to 3 Indian Brigades to be located here. I was expecting Lowpe to have bugged out.

A landing at Jaffna will soon set things right but it is taking 2 + Inf Divisions and supporting units to crush resistance.

Certainly slowing me down but he is paying for it in blood.

With the units deployed to Ceylon there can be no push into Southern India- just too dangerous at the moment.

Consolidating and testing his defences in a few places.

He has deployed plenty of combat power here- hundreds of a/c and thousands of troops (US+ Aussie) plus Brits and the usual Indian formations.

And continuing the general theme across the theatres, the easy gains have also evaporated in China.

Now it will be a grind as the Empire smashes down the Chinese formations to get into better terrain. Probably will take a few months.

Still a little bit of dash, élan and manoeuvre available in the PI.

Should have the Allies cornered in Manilla in a few weeks.

Oh dear lord, the carnage is horrendous.

The worst I have seen in any game I have played over 8 years in PBeM.

Aside from making it a very exciting game, I still think this plays heavily to Japan's advantage with regard to scoring which is critical to keeping this game alive in 45.

Of course if Lowpe hadn't stood his ground and kept me honest, God knows where I could have ended up- probably in Bombay, Calcutta or Hawaii.

Obviously my air losses are outrageous. Allied flak in DBB (which I should very well know) is very nasty and rightly so. The casualties in pilots is thankfully significantly lower than air losses.

I can continue to sustain these losses and tempo of operations but I am guessing the Allies cannot. We will see.

And what are those pilot casualties I hear the punters requesting

Hardly inspiring game play by Japan but certainly not crippling with regards to pilots.

Will just require more clicks to rebuild the pilot pools.

Again time for my quick weekly update.

Ceylon moving to the end game at last. Should have both Indian brigades trapped and then exterminated shortly.

Enjoying running amok across the PIs with little to no resistance.

Occasional air attack and that is about it. Finished off some useful stragglers over the last few days an AO and AD which felt good.

It will be interesting to see how tough Manilla or Clarke will be to knock over.

Time for a rethink in China.

A new axis of advance is required as Lowpe has re-adjusted his defences to counter the central thrusts.

He has plenty of reserves and is defending in depth around the centre of the major thrust in the vicinity Chihkiang. Bitter experience has taught me I could spend months chipping away at these positions and make little ground.

Flexibility is the key here.

Finally Lowpe starts to counter attack on the East Coast of Oz.

I will have to be a bit careful that he doesn't get in behind me and trap me on the coast.

I will will start moving up some of my own reserves and threaten his flank. Will pull the main force back a bit and consolidate around Bundaberg.

I am planning a surprise of my own for Lowpe so this advance of his may work to my advantage as long as I don't get trapped.

Will you be able to hold Bundaberg long enough to empty the rum stores?

China - battle is over supply. You need to destroy it and usually the best way is to bomb and keep bombing Chungking.

Ceylon - If Lowpe got the large AA brigade out, then he wins the battle. 75 large 3" AA guns will definitely kill off large number of your bombers wherever it is placed.

LOL, I must be the only Queenslander that doesn't like the stuff!

It looks like he wants to trap me there so the IJA may have to swap sake for rum if he succeeds.

Yep you are spot on a usual Mike- will start bombing Chungking shortly

- The AA brigade has definitely left the building. He had plenty of time and warning to pull it out. Still I want to kill off the 2 to 3 Indian brigades trapped there.

8th April-Slow but steady progress on Ceylon.

2 to 3 Indian Brigades now trapped and awaiting judgement day. Thus far (the Indians) they have fought surprisingly well.

China looks messy but slowly favouring the IJA.

New break outs are currently being planned. Pockets of resistance and bypassed Chinese are again slowly being mopped up.
