Not a lot happened today, weather scrubbed most of my air missions.

I was able to hit Koggala today. Recon is showing 3 units and I have identified they as
the 6th Infantry Division, 80th Garrison Battalion, and the 11th air Fleet.
Interesting mix.

I hit the port, airfield and ground units. I got some port supply, some airfield supply hits
and a few disablements. I will keep at it.

I am continuing to bomb Koggala. No sign of KB or other TFs in the area.

I am going to air lift the 77th Chindit Brigade to Dambulla. It doesn't look
like he is going to be doing much on Ceylon.

I have called off Naval Bombardments at Mili, recon show only 280 troops there now.
I have a single B-24D unit bombing, that will be enough.

Landing at unoccupied Wewak this turn.

I think he is using Fast Transport to remove his troops

how brave he is to engage this mighty Allied fleet.

I wonder if Recon to raise the DL of a landing site could lessen beaching craft accidents ...
I do check LST captains on arrival on map and change out any with naval skills under 40. Seems to help. TF commander always has high leadership skill.

Don't worry about Trusty - it says right there on the ship screen she was designed for "War Emergencies".

To be honest I have never really worried about LST commanders. I will go about and change them the next few turns, probably should check my APA commanders also.

Another DOINK, but it was a small TK

Allied Ships
SS Sculpin

SS Sculpin launches 2 torpedoes at TK Mirii Maru

-------------------------------
I continued to hammer Koggala and its ocupients

He sent 14 waves of bombers in the night to Akyab. There were 120 bombers in all.
Akyab has 4 runway damage. I am not sure it is worth the expenditure of supply.

I do not see KB anywhere. SS Trusty increased here system and float damage 1 each.
I am surprised that with 74/74 experience she is not doing better.

These TFs have been in this hex for 3 turns and they sill do not show any detection
They are in the hex NW of Rabaul.

This was your situation back in April. So now you have taken Rabaul and up the coast at Wewak, but not Kavieng or the Salamaua-Finschaven area?

last turn I moved my DS up to try and hit the tanker I had seen the turn before at Babo.
Unfortunately, I realized after the turn that you have to set you bombers on attack, not training
to have an effect. This turn I had them on attack and found a small TK TF at Sorong.

Afternoon Air attack on TF, near Sorong at 82,107

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 15,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 15 minutes

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 36

Allied aircraft
F6F-3 Hellcat x 72
SBD-3 Dauntless x 33

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M2 Zero: 8 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
F6F-3 Hellcat: 1 destroyed
SBD-3 Dauntless: 1 destroyed, 4 damaged

Japanese Ships
TK Shoyo Maru, Bomb hits 2, and is sunk
TK Mirii Maru, Bomb hits 2, and is sunk
PB Showa Maru #3
TK Terukawa Maru, Bomb hits 1, and is sunk

Aircraft Attacking:
14 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 3000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb
20 x F6F-3 Hellcat sweeping at 13000 feet
12 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 4000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb
16 x F6F-3 Hellcat sweeping at 13000 feet
5 x SBD-3 Dauntless releasing from 2000'
Naval Attack: 1 x 1000 lb SAP Bomb

CAP engaged:
202 Ku S-1 with A6M2 Zero (12 airborne, 24 on standby, 0 scrambling)
12 plane(s) intercepting now.
Group patrol altitude is 11000 , scrambling fighters between 11000 and 19000.
Time for all group planes to reach interception is 29 minutes

Heavy smoke from fires obscuring TK Mirii Maru

Those pesky little PBs are hard to hit.
The F6Fs did good against the CAP
Tracker says he lost 14 A6M2 ( 13 air-2-air and 1 ops) and I lost 5 SBDs ( 3 air-2-air and 2 ops )
and 2 F6F-3, both air-2-air.
-----------------------------
Continued bombing troops at Koggala and Aitape.

Kai-eilanden flipped to my control.

Naval Search picked up a TF at Kendari, but not what it is. I am wondering
if I should go there or elsewhere. I am pondering.

Edit: I missed this somehow. He did a Naval Bombardment of Akyab.

Night Naval bombardment of Akyab at 54,45

Allied aircraft
no flights

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIc Trop: 29 damaged

Japanese Ships
CA Mogami
CL Jintsu
CL Sendai
DD Ayanami
DD Uranami
DD Hatsuyuki
DD Fubuki
DD Ikazuchi

Allied ground losses:
281 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 4 disabled
Non Combat: 10 destroyed, 52 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 2 disabled
Guns lost 12 (3 destroyed, 9 disabled)
Vehicles lost 18 (5 destroyed, 13 disabled)

Airbase hits 22
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 65
Port hits 3
Port fuel hits 1

It wasn't as bad as it looks. I lost no aircraft, just some damaged and
the port and airbase were damaged, but they will repair in a few days

I decided to move back a ways, and send in some recon to see what might be there. I can tell you that earlier I reconed Kendari and found it completely empty.

Well, I know more about what is about Kendari.
Recon shows 30 bombers and no fighters

Attack Bombers found this

Morning Air attack on TF, near Kendari at 70,106

Weather in hex: Thunderstorms

Raid detected at 40 NM, estimated altitude 2,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 11 minutes

Allied aircraft
B-25D1 Mitchell x 9

Allied aircraft losses

B-25D1 Mitchell: 1 destroyed by flak

Japanese Ships
CA Haguro, Bomb hits 1
CA Myoko, Bomb hits 1, on fire
DD Asashio, Shell hits 5
DD Oshio, Shell hits 1

Aircraft Attacking:
9 x B-25D1 Mitchell bombing and strafing from low level *
Naval Attack: 3 x 500 lb SAP Bomb

Those two bomb hits on the CAs were deck penetrating hits.
===================================================
More bombing of units at Koggala, Mili, and Aitape

Recon of Kendari shows a unit, probably a Naval Guard unit.

Landing at Mili tomorrow.

The DS will move to a position 4 hexes East of Kendari.
Right now the DS has 420 F6F-3 fighters and 252 SBD-3 DBs.

This is what things look like in the Banda Sea now

I forgot about your lodgment at Lautem that gave you recon ability for Kendari. Shame on him for leaving a TF (or disbanded ships) like that without fighter cover. Perhaps he has overextended elsewhere and left a vacuum in this area that you can exploit for a few days.

I lost 4 SBDs and 1 Hellcat today versus his 17 A6M2 Zeros
He did start getting N1K1-J Georges this month, so his ground based fighters will be a bit tougher in the future.

I am going to try and hit his CA/DD TF again and at the same time I have recon going to Manado( Love those USN PB4Y-1P Liberators )
He might try and hide them in the port at Manado, we will see

Looking at yesterday, I see that he lost 3 Jakes on the ground
and again today he lost 3 Jakes. So it looks like I sank both
CAs and hopefully some of the DDs. I must move my CVs back South,
I see two TFs around Makassar that I need to investigate.

I would like to move a division into Manado, but I do not know where
his CVs are and I do not want to get hunt out to dry here.
Recon does show that there are no troops or aircraft at Manado.
Recon shows small forces at Makassar and at Kendari. I have Divisions
that can move to both.

I see a small TF 9 hexes from Koggala. I think it might be another
FT TF. I am going to move a SCTF into Koggala for a turn or two.

-----------------
Bombing continues

An Infantry Regiment and a Armoured regiment landed on Saumlaki. They were not well prepped, so it will need
to wait a turn or two before attacking

Saumlaki is completely cleared of enemy troops.

Bombing in the usual places by me.

Landed a small force at Waingapoe, a small island South of Makassar.

Funny, I swept Kendari and nothing opposed them. Recon shows some fighters there.

Not a lot happening

Waingapoe was taken and there are two AVPs moving there to support a PBY squadron.
Need to extend my naval search.

Forces landed at Aitape today, a DA tomorrow should take the base

I guess weather scrubbed most of my air mission all over the map.
A few flew, not many.

Interesting, Majuro flipped to my control via the 'rowboat corps' from Mili.

Still no sign of enemy CVs anywhere.

Landings at unoccupied Namlea, will take it tomorrow.

Airfield at Kendari bombed again, a few more aircraft destroyed on the ground, no opposition in the air.

A new month, not much in the new aircraft factories this month.

SS Trusty made it to Trincomalee today. 12 days in pierside repair
and then 3 days firing up the boilers and she can move to Colombo and
get fully repaired.

A bit of normal bombing.

I am pulling the trigger on the Kendari invasion. I hope he does not
show up with too many CVs. I can handle a good number, but not all he has.
It is just too good of an opportunity to pass up. I have the 9th Australian
Infantry Division landing and I have a number of follow on units, engineers,
BFs and air HQ. I do not see any CV TFs in the area and I can see fairly far out now.

I forgot earlier that June 1943 has a large number of ship upgrades also. Mostly, but
not all merchants and auxiliary ships, but a few warships also.
