irrelevant, I don't want to offend you and your language skills, but I don't get the meaning of your post.

Anyway, everybody calm down a bit. I bet on this forum there is more than one 'cheapskate' by necessity, for lack of funds. I for my part am a poor student and must restrict myself to buy just one specific game this year, and even this money will only be available at the expense of my beer fund... But I will buy WitP, even if it means that I have to go dry for the remainder of the year.

Here's one for you:

WWII, the Guadalcanal campaign. During a built-up period between two Japanese offensives, a young gung-ho Marine replacement complains to his platoon sergeant: "Hey sarge, now I'm two weeks on this rotten island, and I haven't seen a single Jap, let alone killed one. How can I earn medals when there is no one to shoot at?" - The Sarge answers: "Don't worry, son. Just grab your rifle, walk down to the front at the Ilu River, find yourself a foxhole and then shout into no-man's land across the river 'To hell with Hirohito', and you'll see." The young Marine does as he was told, walks to the front line, jumps into a foxhole, readies his rifle, and aiming it at the jungle on the other side of the river, he shouts with all his might "To hell with Hirohito!!!". A few seconds later, a Japanese officer jumps out of the undergrowth, brandishing his sword and shouting back: "To hell with Roosevelt!!!" The young Marine lowers his rifle and mutters: "Ah, you lucky bastard - I can't shoot a fellow Republican..."

Looks like he took your advice. Not sure what prompted his unprovoked attack on you. Weird.

The game is expensive because it is the War in the East/War in the West/Campaign for North Africa of computer games. Truly massive in scale, covering half the globe. At the same time individual pilots are tracked with names, experience, etc. Schwarzemann, you should take the advice of the moderator: read the other threads. You will see how huge and yet detailed this game is - and your question on price should be answered. If you can show me another game with similar qualities at a similar price, I'd buy it too!

First off, looks to me if DerSchwarzeMann was looking for negative and sarcastic replies when he posted started this thread.

Second, I have enjoyed playing UV and strongly believe paying $50 for it was worth it. If WitP is expanding, adding to, and improving the basic concept behind UV, then yes its going to cost more. And besides, what kind of game do you think you'll get for a lesser price?

Lastly, my only concern is the lack of a projected release date. The EBGames web site has a release date of 14 May 2004, which I seriously find hard to beleive.

Who the hell do you think you r? Im trying to form a discussion here, and you come in out of no where and call me a cheapskate? How about trying a little harder and give me an explanation on why this game is so expensive, everyone else here gave me a reasonable answer , so who is the cheapskate here?

Based on what the word means it would still be you that seems to be the more miserly between the two of you.

It really doesn't matter what reasons people give you now. Until the game is completed, nobody here knows for certain if the game will be worth the price.

Ultimately though, the price is the price. You're not owed an explanation. If money is an issue, I'd highly suggest waiting until the game is released and you hear some positive feedback before you order it.

As for myself, I've been waiting along time for this game and I'm willing to take the risk and pay the price. I pre-ordered UV and got my money's worth. I expect I'll pre-order WitP as well.

nah... mr. mogami will be forced to develop an Turn #1 order for all scenarios and campagins... so a newbie can start with it and everything will be fine

oh, for the elite experts, i can do the same, so loosing 40% of your inital equipment is a really starting part

What really cracks me up is the epic Turn #1 will actually take you guys longer to set up then most other games in the same price range even last!

That would be fine as long as it comes with about a hundred odd pages of notes to explain his reasonings and bigger plan to explain all the moves. Now of course to complicate it, he does a lot of his stuff on turn #2 so as to not get accused of taking advantage of the turn one increased movement range

Nah.. no problem... 2by3 will program the "Mogami"-Button..
you push it, and an automatically help-information-advising-system, copying Mogami and his strategy (logically allways after the known facts, partly some guesses...) so you can get some help...

Fun aside, with a game with such a deep structure, a tutor with a little help scenario and some explainations (from Mogami to explain his doing) would be great

like
"how to kick the yankee" (the perfect ph-plan) or
"Bonsai" - the end of the japanese battleships
or "against all odds" (how to win as the japanese in 45

nah, but some "demo" to show the real deeper things working would be an interesting idea... learn from the master... i think, mogami should do such thing....

Hi, While I am always flattered by the deference shown to me on these forums I really do not think I merit them. I've learned most of what I know about the Pacific War since I began following UV's development.
I try to avoid any plan that requires "tricks" My basic idea is to send more then the enemy can deal with. Once this is no longer possible I dig in and save my strength for when the enemy over extends.
I will make one promise. Once we go Beta I will devote at least 1000 hours (10 weeks of 15 hours per day)(or as long as the beer holds out) to testing the long war scenario. I'll also play as many PBEM games as I can. Since my plan is about bringing more then the allies can deal with during the opening phases I think I can share it with the public.
While we go I'll try to incorperate any logical suggestions to the plan. The only problem with having one of my turn 1's is you will have to use the same password I do.
However I do not possess any super human abiltiy or skill so you have to assume the risk. (While of course I reserve the right to claim all the credit)

That's so very kind, Sir! This student and the German breweries would be eternally thankful! Now, I don't want to appear brazen, but would you eventually pay the other 50%, too, when I tell you that the birth of my first son might coincide with the (projected) release of WitP? I mean, I will need more beer then - the kid needs a bottle every few hours...

MOGAMI Apparently you do have something that most of us would kill for..., the freedom
to spend 15 hours a day for ten weeks doing something fun. Are you single and the
recipient of a great retirement package or what? At least you share the results of your
good fortune with the rest of us who can only drool and dream of being in such a sit-
uation. And for that, Sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar....

Alright here it is. If there are needy matrix devotees out the, who are truly derserving of our support, that will find it difficult to get the $70 to buy WitP, and if some responsible person at Matrix is willing to accept the responsibility of making the determination of what persons should be eligable to receive the game, then let me be the first person to donate one WitP game to the (shall we call it the Gary Grigsby free game fund). I'm serious I'm soo tired of hearing that $70 is so much. I'll pay double for my copy so that a deserving person can get a copy free.

Hi, Actually it is one of the benifits of my agoraphobia. After years on the road my sisters found they needed a cheap full time baby sitter. So I have room and board in return for watching my nephews. I have my computer a TV small refrigerator all in my room. I get up at 5am and am free to test till I wear myself out around 10pm. (I've been known to take a nap in the afternoon) I've went months without leaving the house. Last year I went beyond the confines 2 times (I saw Van Cleiburne in concert and went to 1 movie) I'm currently on my way home after spending the last 6 weeks working to help a friend who fell behind. (Thats why there have been no updates from me for a few days. I'll get back to testing Sunday night) So I trade social life for solitaire computer world.
If it was not so interesting maybe I would go out side more often. (But I get creeped out real easy now days when I mingle with the general public. )

LOL! That should be enough for me then, thanks. Actually I somehow doubt that I will find the time to play WitP, with the baby, studies, job, girlfriend and beer to care for. For some activities, multitasking might be the solution, like this guy on paternity leave demonstrates : (note: that's not me, and I would never do this!)

Well $70 is probably too little a price to pay considering the man-hours involved in the development.

WITP is just another reason to thank the lord above that my divorce was final last month!

But I can't drink beer and play this! I have to think straight. Now Silent Hunter 2 --- that's a different story. After all it's a long way to Tipperary!

Considering the man hours we all have in uncommon valor and the years of
gaming that will continue with these new predacessors I feel the games are a
great deal as I don't know of too many games that I can play for the next
5 years that I will not get bored with....
