And once again an IJN TF sneaks right by BB/DD patrol - but it gets even better: having seen their smokestacks on the horizon, my BB TF decides its time to go home, switches its status to retirement allowed and takes off, full fuel, ammo, and all...

Makes you want to court-martial its commander.

Aaron's BB/DD TF in the Marshalls continues to be useless as once again it takes a different course than ordered. The good news is, two cripples from an earlier battle are intercepted and sunk, including CA Nisshin.

Rysyonok -> YTD tonnage sunk by SSs (2/17/1923) (5/13/2006 4:30:38 AM)

*New*: after a lot of research I decided that the average transport did carry a ton of cargo for each two tons of its own weight. In the previous table the ratio was 1:1,5. This means that every transport sunk will now count for its cargo capacity x 2. I know that a lot of times the ratio was different, but 1:2 does sound like a good median.

Rysyonok -> January 25, 1923 (5/17/2006 6:36:27 AM)

It's amazing just how impossible it is to uproot defenders off an island. IJA by now has 1 infantry regiment, 3 tank and 1 artillery company, 3 engineer regiments and something else and they still can't get rid of my engineer and infantry regiments. Kind of makes you want to take away all those base forces; then players are only going to have divisions at their disposal and Mike Carroll's atoll stacking rules will finally apply as IJA won't be able to put more than a regiment anywhere ;)

The forward elements of January replacement transports are finally starting to approach Pearl Harbor. At this rate I am not going to be able to mount an effective invasion until March at best - Mare island still has 150+ ships under repair. My first CVE - Hornet - is scheduled to arrive in 4 days.

52nd IJN DD goes down - Nara. IJN now has 47 DDs afloat and 7 in the pipeline. USN is roughly 60-70 strong.

Rysyonok -> January 29, 1923 (5/20/2006 7:57:16 AM)

CVE Hornet arrives with 2 British airwings aboard :D One of them is torpedo bombers. May some game bugs be praised =) The ship will pick its third wing, O2U Corsairs, at Pearl.

DM Anthony capsizes at night. I gotta stop repeated minings of the same locations.

2 days until the Iwo Jima bloodbath begins as 4 sets of 4 BB approach the island one after another. I'll wait on casualty roster until then.

Attachment: USN activity in the Pacific. Note heavy West Coast --> Pearl Island movement, as all those 180 transports that arrived 1/15/1923 and got upgraded slowly get repaired and sent west.

The bane of quite a few subs - IJN DD Tade - finally goes down - 3 5" shells and a coup de grace in the form of a 12" projectile amid its magazine...

It was quite a nice night - IJN lost 2DD AP and ML; 5PC and DD are heavily damaged. USN lost PC Eagle 17, capsizing from old injuries.
