Well..
THAT was a long read.
But VERY interesting. Im also a young wargamer (25) and am watching these reports with interest.
There appears to be a few.. discrepancies (BUGS) in your game. 4E bombers were NOWHERE NEAR as effective in real life as they were in the game. B-17s were NOT to be feared by japs, especially not in the early part of the war. B-24/25s and PBYs are another story. In any case, 4E bombers (allied side) TOO STRONG.
Another gripe:
Chungking

Its cut off from supply. This city should have been dead a LONG time ago, even WITH the reinforcement it has been getting. Seems like a bug to me :P
I personally think the stats favour the allies when it comes to torpedo duds and sub hits. The jap subs were actually fairly powerful boats .. in the real war there just weren't enough of them. It seems the japs try to hit things but the game itself prevents it.. when in real life they would. Kinda errks me a bit to know of these problems because i really do want to get into PBEM with this game. Seems pretty intense, at least in the beginning. Theres still bugs to work out but im sure with enough time they'll be ironed out. Are you guys upgrading patches as you go along?
Anyways GREAT waste of a couple of hours reading and deciphering your maps and AARs. The little comments kept me bursting out in laughter.
To the Jap player: Kill all your commanders and start over with fresh forces :P THEY SUCK. You SHOULD be at least surviving but looking at a bunch of raids you made, your betty bombers didnt even have the gutts to brave the flak :P
The allied player.. you've got a tough time ahead of you if the jap gets his KB in the game.
What DOES KB stand for anyways??/
Good luck to both of you ;)

Welcome to our AAR, glad you had a good read. Good to know people are still out there reading it, especially since its a joint AAR, which lends to limited discussion of strategies and intents, since there are enemy eye's and ears all around.

Regarding some of your apprehension about getting into a PBEM. I would totally jump in ASAP. I love it so much, i can't even practice against the AI anymore. With regards about 4E bombers being too strong, i wholeheartly agree, despite the joy i get in obliterating any japanese airbase within 14 hexes (and i haven't forgot about Kendari yet [;)]) We are playing the stock game though, which lends itself to large numbers of 4E bombers to play with. Other mods (ie CHS, Niks, RHS) greatly limit the number of 4E's, so that might be a better fit for you.

Whats important is finding an oppenant in which you agree with on alot of issues, whether it be stacking limits, 4E bomber use, nuke strike bombardments, etc. Once those are ironed out...then game on, but be flexible with in game house rules, as the unexpected always pops up.

Hundreds of Tonys and Jacks await the next visit by the 4E terrors. They did pretty well against them last time. [:D]

AC spotted at Chungking have escaped. Disband to pool was disabled with the last patch, the runway was out of service and there was no friendly AF in range anyway. Wierd.

My anti-sub plan is not fully in effect yet. 2 more transports got hit. [:@]

The two transports hit last turn sank and 2 more ships were hit this turn. Operation "Everybody out of the pool!" is almost complete. New plan Operation "Buddy Swim" is larger convoys with heavy escort rather than single ship TFs. I hope this will be more effective. There will still be proavive ASW TF roaming about but recently even they have been falling victim to sub attacks.

KDonovan -> Sub Warfare Report Update (1/4/2007 5:28:01 PM)

Good news for AFB's...the Allied Sub Doctrine has expired. [:D] Here are the results.

First 6 months of 1943 = 30 Ships sunk, 5 subs lost
Last 30 days = 15 Ships sunk, 1 sub lost

I've gone from 5 ships sunk per month, to 15 ships sunk per month. Thats a 200% increase, and i've only increased the number of subs on patrol by 1-2 boats.

Looks like my prediction was right...when i posted this 1 month ago....

quote:

"So in all, i expect my succeses to increase from the current 4-5 transports per month, to 16-18 transports per month in the coming month. This will net me 300 transports by the end of 1944....thats my prediction."

i was only off by 1 transport, and with the lowering of my torpedo dud rate to 10% in the next month, i'll be able to add that extra sunk merchant ship per month.

now if i can only get some japanese capital ships in my sites....[;)]

RUPD3658 -> RE: Sub Warfare Report Update (1/4/2007 6:31:46 PM)

I have changed my shipping tactics to lessen the effect of the Allied doctrine expiring. Instead of unescorted single ship convoys sailing as soon as they are full I now use multiple ship convoys every 2-3 weeks with heavy escorts.

This takes a lot more management since I have roaving ASW TFs that have to meet up with the convoys when they are ready to sail. After losing 10 ships in a week I realized that something had to be done even if it was time consuming.

I figure that there will be less sub contacts due to fewer TFs being at sea. Also, the escort can either scare off the subs, damage them, or even suck up the torpedo themselves sparing the tankers or AKs.

I have also formed fast reponse forces consisting of ARs and Naval HQs to help saved damaged ships in smaller ports. In the last 3 months 3 TK, 2AK, 1 AP, 2 SS, and 5DD have been saved as a result of these.

So far these new tactics seem to be working.

good strategy. While it only makes sense to use convoys as in real life. With the micromanaging already required in this game, its very bothersome to form such convoys on a regular basis.

The question is..... will you be able to keep this up on those late nights, when your tired after a double shift, the NJ turnpike has screwed you once again, your wife is looking over shoulder waiting for you to watch "Everybody Love's Raymond" with her, the dog is barking, the cat is tearing up your new couch, you're consumed with "The Thread", another NJ governer states he's a "proud gay american", your neighbor still hasn't given back your outdoor grill he "borrowed", they just cancelled "24", while Rosie O'donnel is now on ESPN, you just had Taco Bell, the Phillies traded Ryan Howard, Donovan McNabb is complaining, they are doing road work outside your house, and you just lost the KB............[:D]

Late nights: Who needs sleep? I actually woke up 30 minutes before my alarm today beacuse I had to get a turn out

Turnpike: I avoid it if at all possible. RT 18 is my menace

Wife only watches Dancing with the stars, knitting with the stars, ect. She knows better than to ask me to watch and with 3 TVs in the house and a Tivo there is no reason for me to

Dog/Cat: No dog (yet) and cat is declawed. Since she is almost 17 she pukes on something (me in bed recently) 2-3 times per week

Thread: Mostly at work and only because actually playing WiTP at work would cuase trouble

Gay governers: This was just to end Florida's reign as laughing stock of the USA

BBQ grill: he can have it spiders and all

24: Never saw it

Rosie on ESPN: oh the horror.[X(] But can't be worse than Dennis Miller

Taco Hell: what is the probelm? It always gives me the runs

Ryan Traded: that would have me on suicide watch

McNabb: Garcia is looking good right now

Road work: How did you know? We only have 2 seasons in NJ: winter and construction

Lost the KB: Trying to have it sunk in port in 1946.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Sub Warfare Report Update (1/5/2007 1:37:05 AM)

The sub war from my side:

10 Allied subs sunk by DC (Counting the one sunk today)
6 sunk by AC
23 sunk in port (21 at Manilla on day 1)

I need only sink 100 more and my sea lanes will be safe.

Trap was perfect, except in execution as i forgot to fly 300 P38's on CAP. Instead they just sat on the runway and waved at the Japanese flyboys [:@]

Interesting piece of information gleamed from the attack though. Only the Corsairs and Thunderbolts did well against the Zero's, surffering no losses or even damage. Even when out numbering the Zero's 10:1, my 1st generation fighters are a sorry bunch

to be fair the CA Australia, CA Canberra, CL Leander, CL Achilles were verterns from night combat off Rabual early in the war. Plus i staffed my warships with my most aggressive captians. Nevertheless, i'm still surprised about the onesideness of the battle

RUPD3658 -> RE: Air battle at Kai Is. (1/6/2007 3:43:47 AM)

Must be the leader ratings. I did not assign the leader since I was just moving the TF to Menado for a future raid.

The ships were all vets of the bombardment of Karachi so their ratings should have been good.

I guess leaders are really important.
