RUPD3658 -> RE: Slaughter at Derby (7/27/2006 6:23:08 PM)

Koepang is a 5 or 6, whatever is maxed. It is overloaded (exact # is classified) and there are 2 air HQ in range.

I think the low experience of the Zeros may have been the cause of the 1st screw up. Can't figure why the 2nd raid flew and then I got a message that the base was closed due to weather.

KDonovan -> RE: Slaughter at Derby (7/28/2006 12:05:39 AM)

Here's a map of the current situation in the Pacific. Basically Tom has been on a rampage since day 1, engulfing China, SRA, and India. Of course i suck at land combat so this comes to no surprise. I still hold a formidable line of base's from PH to Australia. The base's with american flags denote level 5 AF's for my 4E bombers. The japanese flags denote level 4 AF's will Betty's stationed on them.

Intel wise, my sources tell me that Japan is planning attacks on the following locations...
- Darwin
- Derby
- Perth
- Luganville

probably just trying to throw me off track as nothing bigger than a SNLF has been picked up as prepping for these locations

Doubting his own intel. My counter intel people will be happy. [:D]

RUPD3658 -> RE: Slaughter at Derby (7/28/2006 2:53:04 PM)

As expected Kenny struck at Koepang with his 4E bombers. A2A went well but due to ground losses he came out on top. 71 B-17s went down in flames and scores more damaged. I was not impressed with the performance of the AA units.

RUPD3658 -> 800 AC losses in 10 days (7/30/2006 11:49:58 PM)

It finally rained for 2 straight days allowing me to fully repair and reinforce Keopang.

Over the last 10 days (including my ill fated raid on Derby) I have lost

250 Sallys/Betties/Nells (combined)
100 Zeros
50 Oscars

I have destroyed:

100 B-17s
100 B-25s
150 Hudsons/Blenheim IVs/Wellingtons (combined)
50 of various other types

All numbers are estimates but the total of 800 losses (400 each) is about right. Most were lost at Timor but several were destroyed on the ground at Karachi.

On the plus side, I have destroyed 3 months worth of B-17 production for less than 1 month's production of bombers and 2 weeks worth of Zeros. Should make the seas safer for my TFs and especailly the KB when it sorties again.

On the down side it has shredded my pilot pool. Most of my fighter squadrons consist of 1-2 aces (my top ace WO. Handa has 17 kills) and a bunch of newbies with exp in the 30s-40s). Trading 1:1 has also lowered my VP margin from 4.21:1 to 4.09:1. We are overriding auto victory but it is still a move in the wrong direction.

Fuel shortages may slow the bombardments of Karachi.

RUPD3658 -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/1/2006 11:55:36 PM)

It is not safe for the BBs to venture anywhere else so I figured that Karachi would make for good target practice.

Hopefully they will destroy Brit LCUs faster than they can be replaced. Can't cut off supply so killing squads is all that will help.

Judging by the 10-20 points I am scoring every 2 days for ground losses I think it might just be working. Either that or Chinese units at Chungking are starving faster than I expected them to.

BBs will be standing down for a week or so to allow the safe passage of the BB Valiant as per a prior agreement.

When they stop bombarding Karachi it means that the KB is ready for it's next mission. I have several secret plans ready for the Late Summer offensive.

KDonovan -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 12:05:47 AM)

wow...800 AC in 10 days...didn't even realize.

- B25's losses isn't a big deal as there replacement rate is incredible
- Hudson's/Blens/Wellings losses will take time to replace as there rates are lower
- B17s losses will take time to replace as i only get 30 a month. However i'm getting 75 B24's a month, so i'll probably upgrade some of those now understrength B17 groups. More so, in 12 game days i'll have access to a pool of over 300 LB-30....which will be an allied fanboy wet dream.

ooo..yeah...summer offensive. Hope to see a CENPAC, SOPAC offensive. I'm sick of trying to figure out the land combat model, and look forward to some naval/air battles.

major naval forces currently on hand are as follows...
- 5 CV's (1 British)
- 1 CVL (Hermes)
- 1 CVE
- 15 BB's (including Repulse)
- 20 CA's
- 25 CL's
- 7 CLAA's

I think i have a numerical advantage in every catagory except CV's.

now that everything has radar, i hope to get into some naval battles and take out some japanese BB/CA's.

ny59giants -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 6:03:24 AM)

OK, I'm missing something here.
Why in 12 days do you get access to 300 LB-30's?? [&:][&:]

KDonovan -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 2:39:54 PM)

not knowing this at the time....but once you upgrade the 7th BG to LB-30's, then all your bomber groups can be upgraded to them. Unfortunately for me, when i realized this, the 7th BG was on the bottom of the Indian ocean after being sunk in a transport. However, airgroups reform after 90 days when sunk at sea, so now i'm only 12 days away from getting the 7th BG back....and once that happens it will be upgraded to LB-30's..thereby releasing the entire pool of 300 planes (boom)

RUPD3658 -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 3:11:39 PM)

Hate to break it to you but I think it is 270 days for air groups lost at sea. 360 for ones destroyed on land.

ny59giants -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 3:35:55 PM)

KD,
I thought there was something else going on with the LB-30's. I usually send the 7th BG to India early in the game before Singapore and DEI fall by island hopping. With those numbers along with B-24's coming in, it's "bombs away" time for the Allies. [:D][:D]

Could either one of you post a India snap shot around Karachi so I have a better reference??

GO NY Giants!!!  Repeating as Division Champs!!!   [;)]

Gen.Hoepner -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 3:41:51 PM)

yes guys, we need maps!!

RUPD3658 -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 3:42:48 PM)

Pretty simple. I hold everything but Karachi, Diamond Harbor, Diampur, Calcutta, and the city south of Dacca. In a week or so it will be all but Karachi and Calcutta.

The raiding force that came out of Karachi is finding it's way back. I had hoped to cut it off.

DD Kasumi, Mine hits 1, on fire (I hope this was not one of my mines)

don't worry..it was one of my mines

hard to post a snap shot as this is a joint AAR, so screen shots will give away vital information

RUPD3658 -> RE: 800 AC losses in 10 days (8/2/2006 8:12:47 PM)

Did you check the arrival date of the 7th BG on the AC reinforcements screen? Rule book (for what it is worth) says 270 days for AC lost at sea.

yep...10 days it will be here. Maybe this is a bug....so far every airgroup sunk at sea has come back in 90 days

ny59giants -> RE: Slaughter at Derby (8/2/2006 10:50:47 PM)

Guys,
Any house rule on the Japs being able to capture Karachi?
Don't want a repeat of Nemo in his Lunacy game. [:D][:D]

RUPD3658 -> RE: Slaughter at Derby (8/2/2006 10:57:28 PM)

None as yet. If I do manage to take it I will give it back so as not to cut off the reinforcements.

We have agreed that warships and AC will be given free passage to leave. Ships must go to SF and repaired down to 0 before being used to simulate sailing west via the canal.

Defeated Japanese Units Retreating!

KDonovan -> Proposed House Rule for Karachi (8/3/2006 7:43:53 PM)

Proposed House Rules for Karachi (when its retaken by Allies)

LCU Reinforcements
1) when Karachi is retaken by the allies, any Indian reinforcements will not be able to be used in any offensive operations to retake India. This simulates the defeat of the Indian people.
- Exception to this rule will be that one Indian Brigade be allowed to be used offensively. This is to simulate “free Indian” troops…kinda like the “free French” in WWII. Reinforcements for this “free” Indian Brigade will be turned off, since there will be no Indian country to receive reinforcements from.

2) American, Australian, British, Canadian troops can attempt to retake parts of India from Karachi. Prevents the Japanese from leaving a token force to garrison India.

3) Chinese troops that arrive to Karachi cannot part take in any offensive to take back India. SEAC Chinese troops destroyed in China, inadvertenly arrive at Karachi, which makes no sense.

4) The free Indian Brigade can receive reinforcements if a 1 major city (besides Karachi) is liberated. The following are the only major cities that apply….Bombay, New Delhi, Madras, Calcutta.

5) If all those above major cities are liberated, then any Indian Reinforcements that arrive can now be used for offensive operations against the Japanese. Those Indian reinforcements that arrived before the complete liberation of India can never be used.

Ship Reinforcements
1) Any warships will be given free passage along the western map edge, around Australia, to S.F. Once there it must be repaired to system 0 to simulate traveling around the Suez canal. These ships however can be withdrawn if Churchill so desires.

Aircraft Reinforcements
1) all British airgroups will be disbanded since v1.801 allows this. This will simulate Britain’s need to keep airgroups in the Middle East to protect the oil fields from Japanese raids. The airgroups will be reformed every 90 days. Only until all Japanese troops are pushed back east of Bombay-New Delhi line can the british airgroups be used against Japanese held bases in India. If v1.802 doesn’t allow airgroups to be disbanded…then something will have to be thought of.

2) American airgroups will be allowed free passage around western map edge, around Australia…to S.F. Once there they can be used for combat against the Japanese and moved to the front
