Sounds like the next thing you guys need to do is simulate the German/Japanese link-up in Iran. [X(][:D]

Proposed House Rules for Karachi (when its retaken by Allies)

LCU Reinforcements
1) when Karachi is retaken by the allies, any Indian reinforcements will not be able to be used in any offensive operations to retake India. This simulates the defeat of the Indian people.
- Exception to this rule will be that one Indian Brigade be allowed to be used offensively. This is to simulate “free Indian” troops…kinda like the “free French” in WWII. Reinforcements for this “free” Indian Brigade will be turned off, since there will be no Indian country to receive reinforcements from.

No need to turn off reinforcements for the Fee Brigade. There will always be expatriot volunteers

2) American, Australian, British, Canadian troops can attempt to retake parts of India from Karachi. Prevents the Japanese from leaving a token force to garrison India.

I plan on leaving about 5K AV as a garrison so this is fine.

3) Chinese troops that arrive to Karachi cannot part take in any offensive to take back India. SEAC Chinese troops destroyed in China, inadvertenly arrive at Karachi, which makes no sense.

Agreed

4) The free Indian Brigade can receive reinforcements if a 1 major city (besides Karachi) is liberated. The following are the only major cities that apply….Bombay, New Delhi, Madras, Calcutta.

As above, no need.

5) If all those above major cities are liberated, then any Indian Reinforcements that arrive can now be used for offensive operations against the Japanese. Those Indian reinforcements that arrived before the complete liberation of India can never be used.

OK

Ship Reinforcements
1) Any warships will be given free passage along the western map edge, around Australia, to S.F. Once there it must be repaired to system 0 to simulate traveling around the Suez canal. These ships however can be withdrawn if Churchill so desires.

Aircraft Reinforcements
1) all British airgroups will be disbanded since v1.801 allows this. This will simulate Britain’s need to keep airgroups in the Middle East to protect the oil fields from Japanese raids. The airgroups will be reformed every 90 days. Only until all Japanese troops are pushed back east of Bombay-New Delhi line can the british airgroups be used against Japanese held bases in India. If v1.802 doesn’t allow airgroups to be disbanded…then something will have to be thought of.

2) American airgroups will be allowed free passage around western map edge, around Australia…to S.F. Once there they can be used for combat against the Japanese and moved to the front

OK

All I would add is that due to the free passage rules we declare the IO from North of Batavia to be a neutral zone. Allies can't send ships to India through here and Japan will not station subs/warships in the area and will stand down air coverage of the area.

If the Allies wish to attempt to retake India by sea I would ask for a 30 day notice prior to any ships enetering this area so the AC can be reactivated and repositioned.

Are the US troops going to come by sea or the teleport rule? Either is fine but I might ask for a cap on the number of teleporting units.

i will not be teleporting any units from the West Coast to Karachi, via command change to SEAC. If i intend to use troops from Oz, SOPAC, SWPAC, CENPAC, NOPAC they will come by way of invasion from the sea in which case you will get a 30 day warning.

KDonovan -> RE: Proposed House Rule for Karachi (8/4/2006 6:27:53 PM)

MAJ Putnam had a good career. He started off defending the Philipines where we racked up 5 kills against japanese torpedo bombers. His unit was then transferred to Soerabaja where in a losing battle against japanese Zero's, managed to rack up another 5 kills. Afterwards he was transfered to Derby to defend the air space there. Once again the Japanese came after him, this time with Sally's. Despite downing 6 bombers, a Zero shot him down over the harbor. Luckily Maj Putnam bailed out and was rescued, despite being wounded. He was then transferred to Brisbane to recover from his wounds. After making a full recovery, he was transferred to an Efate to fly CAP missions for convoys heading in and out of the Noumea area. Here Maj Putnam career ended. It was the morning of the 19th, taking off on another CAP mission, that his P40E engine cut out, forcing him into the crash landing. Despite landing belly up, the G-forces were to great shattering his spine, and severing his aorta...causing his death.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Proposed House Rule for Karachi (8/4/2006 7:58:19 PM)

Hopefully the ground crew won't find the remains of the small bomb that made his engine cut out. SNLF hit team had been trying for weeks to plant it.[;)]

KDonovan -> Ship Losses update (8/8/2006 7:32:51 AM)

This is the ship losses as of 7/29/42

Allies (259 ships)
4 CV - Sara, Big E, Illustrious, Victorius
3 CL - Boise, Detroit, Concord
41 DD - about 1/2 loss in ambush by KB while in transit from India to Oz
26 SS - most of them lost on 1st day of war from KB strike on Manila
32 PT - a Light Cruiser worth of points and only 2 torpedo hits to show (no sinkings)
6 PG - still have the Charleston..the only PG that really matters
1 PC - only 1 more left...do the allies even get anymore?
3 AVD - lost in front line stations of my outer defensive permiter to japanese DD's
2 AV - poor Langley
15 MSW - all have respawned already
3 DMS - don't like losing these
2 ML - a Destroyer worth of points, yet have sunk about 20 ships thus far
1 AE - useless until 1945
3 AS - all at Manila
10 AO - been careless with my oilers...this will hurt me in 43' when i will need them
16 TK - who cares...
]7 AP - not bad...no 2000 ones sunk...which are the important ones for those atolls
94 AK - and i still feel like i have too many

Japan (100 ships)
2 CV - Kaga, Junyo
1 CS - Chitose, sunk by 1 torpedo from a dutch submarine
3 CL - Tenryu, Kashii, Abukuma
22 DD - add another 4 to this.......as you will see
14 SS - average about 2 kills per month...seems historical
10 PG - most sunk near Rabual by the Boise
7 PC - most sunk by CD-guns
14 MSW - japan never seems to run out of these things
1 AO - hit by a B17 at Formosa in the 1st week of the war
1 TK - Dutch sub...again
18 AP - mostly sunk in landing operations
5 AK - pathetic considering the amount of shipping the japanese have

would've liked to hit more japanese shipping by now. But i haven't really started a true submarine warfare campaign yet, as my torps still suck..my boats have no radar, and we are playing with allied sub doctrine ON...so my skippers are scared little kittens

There is a high bounty on the head of ML Captains. Lost more to these than any other ship. [:@] Glad I have 10x as many. 1943-44 will see my revenge in this area.

Tried to lower the forts at Chunking. 2500 engineers failed to acomplish this and I suffered heavy losses. May have to wait 12-18 months for them all to starve.

New York Jets -> RE: Seige of Calcutta (8/9/2006 7:35:24 AM)

I've been following this AAR (having read all of its pages in the last day and a half) and have a few questions.

How has the Allied player managed to lose most of China and essentially all of India? I know he stated he's not very good at ground combat but, that's amazing.

For the Japanese player. Having spent (apparently) as you have most of your blood and treasure in China, India, and the DEI, how do you plan to defend against the eventual storm coming through the North, Central, and South Pacific?

It is only August '42, after all. Your forces seem to be "hitting the wall" already.

I bombed his resources and concentrated my forces in China. Not much the Allies can do to prevent this against a determined Japanese opponant.

In India I flanked his troops by landing between Madras and Calcutta. This allowed the Seac forces to be defeated piecemeal. The rapid capture of Singapore made this possible.

Please don't think Kenny is not a good player. He has made me pay dearly for all of this. Every time I drop my guard or get sloppy I get smacked. In fact I was losing the air war until May and still have lost more in A2A than I have shot down. Overall air losses are about even. Against the AI I would have done this in 1/2 the time.

Mines, LBA, CD units, and the KB are the plan. Hopefully it will just take him too long to get within range of the HI. I have already felt the sting of the 4E terrors.

I have a few tricks left and hope to be able to upset the time table for the Allied advance as much as possible.

If you want to see a really agressive Japanese player see Nemo121's Lunacy and Shrewdess AAR. I am a bit more conservative and Kenny and I are more flexable in regards to in game house rule changes.

RUPD3658 -> RE: Seige of Calcutta (8/9/2006 8:03:02 AM)

Making progress at Calcutta. Losses are about even but since his seem to be defending at 9x their AV 1:1 losses are quite acceptable.

Flak units are doing well againt his F5A recon units. Shot down 5 in the last 6 days.
