Dec 30th. Well, in news for the day - Japanese forces have seized the island of Singkep between Palembang and Singapore, in an effort to shut off traffic between the two. Also seized by Japanese forces today are Wewak and Rabaul. Fortunately for the Allies - both of those locations have been evacuated prior to the arrival of the Japanese. Fighting continues in the Philippines, the lines remaining stable for the past few days (American/Filipino forces holding Manila, Clark Field, Bataan, Tuguegarao, and the mountains to the west. On Mindanao we still hold Cagayan, as well as most of the islands in the central Philippines. Wake Is. was bombarded last night by the lone destroyer Shiratsuyu, and a Japanese surface action group of cruisers and destroyers attacked and sank burning allied ships abandoned off Amboina. The Air War proper has yet to get too active so far, though Japanese planes are bombing in ever increasing numbers - Allied response to date has been very weak.
