29 JAN 42

Japanese troops unloading in Palembang! That was bad enough news to Allied troops, but perhaps worse was a massive Japanese attack unfolding at Clark Field on USAFFE.
For MacArthur's and Wainright's troops - this is it. We'll see if they survive...

30 JAN 42

The Japanese have moved to the Clark Field area in great strength - 4 INF DIVs, 1 INF BDE, 5 Tank RGTs, along with Engineers and Hvy Arty, over 109,000 troops.
The USAFFE troops immediately launched a deliberate attack to push them back - but to no avail... the final siege has begun in the Philippines.

BLUESBOB -> RE: January 1942 (12/4/2006 11:00:40 PM)

ABDA here:

Everything is falling into place. Units have moved into position and we are finally set to await the Japanese assault. Can't say to much without revealing our strengths and weaknesses...but I don't think we have any weaknesses. Port Moresby sent some recon aircraft over Rabaul, and look how our neighbors responded. Bad neighbors. Oh, well...they will be evicted soon. Once the action starts in the DEI and the Solomons we'll give more details.

ABDA out.

Big B -> RE: January 1942 (12/5/2006 6:58:15 AM)

31 JAN 42

No air combat at all today..

The Japanese have gone through the formality of occupying a deserted Palembang and Tarakan... but the real show is in Luzon at Clark Field/ San Fernando.

There the Japs are preparing for the climax of their Philippine campaign. The USAFFE will do their best to make them wait a while longer for the finale.

Big B -> February 1942 (12/9/2006 6:57:48 AM)

04 FEB 42

News from the Philippines
; Today saw very heavy action at the Clark Field\San Fernando area where the main armies are fighting it out.
USAFFE reports two Philippine Army units badly mauled, with USAFFE HQ troops having to fight off Japanese troops as they came pouring through the whole in the line. Fighting was reported as hand to hand at the Head Quarters until US Tanks and US Marines and Infantry arrived - forcing the Japanese back with very heavy losses.
Intelligence estimates that the equivalent to nearly an entire Japanese Division was decimated during the fighting. Japanese penetrations in the line have not been entirely eliminated.

Elsewhere across the Pacific Theatre very little activity was reported.

Kadrin -> RE: New Years Eve (12/9/2006 12:22:00 PM)

Report from SouthEast Asia:

Everything is going well, reinforcements are flooding in. We have more planes, troops, supplies and ships than we know what to do with.

Japanese advance at Moulmein has run out of steam. Plan Cee Bee Dee is go.

Singapore's defenders are dug in and well supplied.

And should the opportunity arise, the Royal Navy is in a prime position to deal a severe blow to the Imperial Japanese Navy.

This concludes our report from SouthEast Asia.

Big B -> RE: February, 1942 (12/11/2006 5:27:10 AM)

06 FEB 42

The Philippines:
The Japs are giving Clark Field 'The Works' today, hitting with over 100 bombers, and bombarding with Hvy Arty. Meanwhile intellegence has discovered that the Japanese Army 65th Bde and 4 other units have been pulled out of the line and sent south to rest in Manila. USAFFE HQ reports that the troops are holding, but need help from Washington ASAP.

18 FEB 42

The Japanese continue to expand taking unoccupied locations. Meanwhile, back in the Philippines, USAFFE are still holding out against steep odds at the Clark Field- San Fernando area. We have counted 6 Japanese Divisions against us, along with 4 tank Regiments and 4 Heavy Artillery Regiments... but we are holding our ground.

Singapore is still holding well - although it is also the target of 100 bomber raids daily.

In the Central Pacific Johnson Island has been successfully relieved - overall we are looking well.

I would put in more details - but enemy eyes are watching.

BLUESBOB -> RE: RE: (12/31/2006 1:05:19 AM)

ABDA, SW Pacific, & Australia Commands:

It's hard to report without revealing to much, but I've decided that it really doesn't matter much. The Japanese have a very good idea what's going on, so I might as well talk about what's up.

My Iron Triangle of Koepang, Kendari, and Amboina continues to build defenses. We are confident that the Japanese will never take Koepang and Kendari, Amboina is going to be a fight. We have enough men to hold, but getting supply in has been a mess. Amboina falls within Betty range of several of his forward bases. The Australian DD Vendetta just took a torp the other day ferrying supplies to the base. She's OK, but will be in port for several months.

Koepang and Kendari have expanded into formidable forward bases. Each is well supplied and have a lot of ground troops for their defense. The only problem I'm having right now is that the purpose for building both bases has been put on hold. Due to Big B's making the scenario more historically accurate, I now have two big airfields...and yet no aircraft to use there. It's a conundrum, but one we'll accept for their use in the future.

Port Moresby, the other key to my defense/offense, continues to due well. Supply has been getting in and the base continues to expand. Again we have enough troops to hold indefinately, but for use as a forward airstrike base it's on hold. Basically, ABDA and AC are ahead of the game. We have the resources to take the war to the Japs...we just don't have the planes to do it with.

All is going well...we're just doing better than the Allies industrial output at the moment.

Confidence and morale are high.

ABDA, SW Pacific, & Australia Commands out.

20 FEB 42

A light day for the Pacific War, nothing unusual.

As the month of February passes, USAFFE are still holding - waiting for promised relief. We are happy to report that supply and the troops mail are getting in, as well as the most seriously wounded getting evaced out. This link to the outside world is keeping up moral among the troops. HeadQuarters USAFFE has optomistically reported that they still intend to be holding Clark Field when March arrives...

ABDA, SW Pacific, and Australia Commands:

Big B needs to get our Combat reports updated, but here is the situation as of 22 FEB 1942:

Situation remains the same throughout the commands. Supply situation has eased, but we are still in need of fighter and bomber aircraft.

Probably our biggest concern today is that two Jap TF's consisting of CV's, BB's, CA's, CL's, and DD's have shown up unexpectedly...despite heavy naval reconnaissance of the area...approx. 120 nautical miles off Brisbane. Standby for an update on whatever occurs. It's a bit of a sticky wicket for the command at this point.

ABDA, SW Pacific, and Australia Commands out.
