I do not know what to make of this? Also, I have never really considered this. I am at a loss of what to do.

Take a time-out, I'm sure Terminus will understand. Then you've got some reading to do:

You can find some tips in this long thread, but it's mostly a discussion about historic accuracy:

This thread is better:

And here's the list of some AARs which deal with an invasion of Russia. Sadly, most of them are head-to-head games.

VSWG -> RE: Jan 21, 1942 (11/18/2006 8:56:05 PM)

The best way to start is to look at your supply situation. How many supplies do you have, and where? Even more important, where are they produced, and how? Can Terminus destroy your supply production by bombing HI and resource centers? If so, can your air force defend them? Soviet planes aren't the best, but they shine in one area: they have armor, so Terminus needs fighters with cannons to shoot them down - Zeros! This would be a good time to start an air offensive somewhere else, since his Zeros can't be everywhere. IIRC Soviet planes have excellent replacement rates, and you should have large pilot pool, so you can risk a war of attrition.

Something else to keep in mind: he attacked in January! From November to February, ground units in cold zones suffer from the same adverse effects as in malaria zones: high fatigue, some disruption. This favors the defender. Furthermore, "Air units will fly 25% less aircraft on strike-type Missions" - good for you, CAP isn't affected.

Disclaimer: The above is true for stock WitP, and the mods I have had a look at (CHS, RHSEOS). I don't know Terminus' mod, maybe he changed some stuff. Ask him, I'm sure he will tell you the truth - or give us a quick summary of your forces. This can easily be done by using the "Show all ground units / air groups with same HQ" button in the LCU / air unit screen.

Interesting move on Ts part. Any new updates?

Me too! [X(][;)]

I've never fought in Russia, so take this as speculation, not firm advice. In addition to what VSWG said, I'd add this: You have a lot of additional air units to use now. If I were in your shoes I'd try to fight hard in the air on all fronts, with the hope that sooner or later one of the Japanese fronts will crack.

Whatever you do, good luck! Looks like you're having an interesting game, at least.

BrucePowers -> RE: Jan 28, 1942 (12/2/2006 4:46:32 AM)

I apologize for not updating sooner. Last week was very busy.

It is now Jan 28, 1942 and Terminus has not penetrated any further in the USSR. China is holding.
He broke off the pursuit of the Saint George on the 22nd. He put over well over 150 250 Kg AP bombs on the Saint George. She had 60 sys and 62 floatation. She is now safe in Trincomolee (the carriers are back in the South China Sea).

His subs have been mining harbors (like Midway and Trincomolee). My minesweepers are very busy.

Johore Bharu is close to falling. However, another transport made it to Singapore with supplies and is off loading now.

I had a minor success in Java. Land based air has repulsed an overland attempt to take Palembang. The screen shot is below.

BrucePowers -> RE: Jan 28, 1942 (12/2/2006 4:54:46 AM)

In other theatres, Mandalay will soon fall but not without a fight.

With the USSR under attack, I have decided all North Pacific units will be deployed to Alaska and the Aleutians. Large amounts of fuel and supplies are making their way to Pearl Harbor. Combat units are following.

Noumea was savaged by carrier based air over a 3 day period due to incompetance on my part. A US heavy cruiser and several transports were lost.

BrucePowers -> RE: Jan 30, 1942 (12/5/2006 4:07:49 AM)

Johore Bharu fell yesterday and Mandalay fell today.

Another AK slipped into Singapore with 4500 supply. This may give a few extra days.

Most aircraft have evacuated Singapore. They went to Chandpur, Deeca, batavia and Palembang. The aircraft that went to Java and Sumatra are plastering the 2 Japanese units in Jambi.

I have not seen a Betty bomber in a week and I wonder why T is resting them so.

I am going to reassemble the allied BB in the far east into a surface combat force. I want to try and suprise T when the invasion of Java commences. I have tanker support moving to western Australia to support.

The Russian static fortresses have given T a serious headache but I do not know how much longer they can hold.

My Chinese units are performing well.

BrucePowers -> RE: Feb 8th, 1942 (12/15/2006 4:17:30 AM)

Sorry for the delay in updates.

It is now Feb 8th

Lashio fell 2 days ago.

T tried a fighter sweep over Akyab and lost several zeros to the AVG. I had 1 P40 damaged.

I have lost 3 subs in the last 3 days to ASW TFs. My guys can't hit the board side of a barn (Dutch, British or US) and he can pop them left right and sideways.

Ambonia was invaded yesterday. It will fall in no more than 48 hours.

He is 1 hex away from Vladivistok. I do not know how long Russia will hold out.

Singapore, Manila and Bataan still hold.

I am now moving large amounts of supply and fuel west from the US. Ground units are prepping for movement.

Rabaul was invaded 3 days ago and will probably fall in 2 days.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 12:24:03 AM)

It is now March 1 and it is time for an update.

Singapore still holds although the forts are down to 3.

Manilla fell about 1 week ago.

Buin has fallen and so has Rabaul

Palembang and Batavia are now under heavy air attack.

I caught a carrier replenishment TF north of the Solomons with the S-27 today

Sub attack at 63,87

Japanese Ships
AO Iro, Torpedo hits 2, on fire [:D][:D]
DD Kisaragi
DD Minegumo

Allied Ships
SS S-27

Maps....Bruce.....maps.....you look in good shape in the DEI.........I think.......but I need maps.......always maps.......and more maps......did I say maps......perhaps not.......maps?.......

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 1:01:56 AM)

Working on it

Southern DEI. I am concentrating a strong naval force in northern Austrailia to see if an engagement can be had if his carriers do not provide proper cover

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 1:43:35 AM)

The entire ASiatic Fleet HQ rescued from Manila in 2 AP 5 days before that city fell now on the way to Darwin under heavy ASW escort. The 2 AP raveling separately moved to Balakipan(?) then to Maccassar and then to Derby. Some units went by air to protect against disaster.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 2:08:16 AM)

The situation in the Philipines and Borneo. 75 percent of all Dutch air units now belong to the Southwest pacific and can be evacuated at the correct time

Nemo121 -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 3:54:22 AM)

Have you asked your opponent what lunacy inspired him to mount an offensive war against the Soviet Union while the DEI, Pacific and China are all still active theatres? It seems like a recipe for a quick loss to me.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 5:00:40 AM)

He claims it was to throw me off balance, which it did. Also there are no ground reinforcements for 1000 days. I think the USSR will be out of it in 3 months. This will give him resources and oil.

fabertong -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 11:43:28 AM)

Bruce.....wow......thanks fo all the maps......you do look in good shape........

In the DEI you still hold Palambang.......and all of Java/southern Borneo/Sulawesi......at the start of March......and he will have a fight to take it......I don't know enough about T's Mod....but IIRC it still uses the stock A2A model...if so if you can hold Java until after the Zero bonus expires.....you can make this area a real pain for him by bringing in some Fighter groups........

fabertong -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 11:46:19 AM)

You still hold PM as well.....if you can continue to hold it without over-commiting......until May/June....then....again with stock A2A.....you can use B-17s to close Rabaul.......ending most of his chances to expand in the Sols..........

BrucePowers -> RE: March 1, 1942 (12/28/2006 4:10:30 PM)

I have 3 squadrons of hurricanes (16 aircraft each) and 2 P40 squadrons (24 aircraft each) available for use in the DEI.

The units in the Phillipines will be used in the Solomons/New Guinea area (I think). I do not hold much hope of holding PM. I have no PP to move units to New Guinea and my US units are cautiously moving southwest under ASW care due to submarine threat.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 2, 1942 (12/28/2006 4:36:02 PM)

The March 2 turn passed quietly with no major actions. The Asiatic Fleet HQ is now unloading in Darwin. I am going to try and send 2 tankers to Java to try and bring out excess fuel stocks.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 2, 1942 (12/28/2006 4:54:25 PM)

We appear to have a synch issue. More to come.

BrucePowers -> March 3, 1942 (12/28/2006 5:53:50 PM)

Japanese carriers (CVL or CVE) have shown up east of Tarakan. I have moved P40's and bombers into attack range. Maps to follow.

BrucePowers -> RE: March 3, 1942 (12/28/2006 11:20:21 PM)

The carriers retreated from Tarakan towards Pelieu. I may be able to catch them from Menado. Map to follow (I promise)

I need a Phtoshop Elements for dummies first.[:D][:D]

BrucePowers -> March 6, 1942 (12/29/2006 3:40:11 AM)

T and I are working on a synch issue.

Be that as it may, we are now up to March 6. My ambush did not work. The swordfish refused to fly even though they had 19 p40's escort the Dutch torpedo bombers. The are some RAF pilots up on charges.

T has landed in the Shortlands.

The I-66 making a nuisance of itself near India was attacked and incurred minor damage.

Map of Solomons area. Those troops from the Philipines are now investing the South Pacific

BrucePowers -> RE: March 6, 1942 (12/29/2006 4:05:32 AM)

The area around Pearl Harbor.

ASW TF will start patroling. All convoys in and out of PH to be escorted and start taking random routing.

Do you guys ahve a HR limit on the size of ASW TFs?
