TBKR -> Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/2/2006 8:31:52 AM)

Is it just me or are there no flags representing Illinois, Maine, Indiana and a host of other States in the "Choose a Flag" option, yet Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Connecticut are represented? Any reason for this? It's the little details that make this game and so I would like my Brigades to fly the flag of their home state.

ericbabe -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/2/2006 9:59:55 PM)

The original design was to include state flags for all the states -- then I was surprised to learn that many states did not have state flags at the time.  Illinois, for instance, adopted its state flag only in 1915.

It'll be easy for us to add flags.  I'll talk with Gil and we'll start a thread where people can post specific flags they'd like to recommend for inclusion via patches.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/2/2006 10:04:56 PM)

for me, I want as many flags as we can get in

which I am sure Eric and Gil and Pencil are tired of me asking for more, but if we can get more, lets add them in :)

Yes, as eric said suprisingly many states did not have flags at the time. So we're being 'historical'. However, we have plenty of room to include lots of flags. Let's just create a thread (this one will do fine, OK Gil?) with all the various flags you all would like. Just post an image and I'll compile them into the Flags files and distribute them w/ a future patch.

Guidelines about images:
Flags must be at least 80x80 pixels minimum and need be no larger than 400x400. The cleaner and clearer they are, the more likely they are to be included. Text, etc. does not show up very well on the flags, as they are so small. They can be in non-rectangle shapes (pennant, triangle, etc.)

Here's an example of what I mean by 'clean'. Flat image, no waviness = better. Illustrations are better than photos, for this purpose.

Pixelpusher

Do you want battle flags as well? I know regiments are not represented in the game so I assume not but wanted to check.

elmo3 -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/9/2006 1:57:30 PM)

Here is a link to lots of Civil War flags. Too many to post pics here.

Tanaka -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/9/2006 6:54:54 PM)

Has anyone made a flag mod yet?

ericbabe -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/9/2006 6:59:29 PM)

We're happy to include any Civil War flags that enough people want, including regimental flags.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/9/2006 7:34:25 PM)

You know, there Were Marines around back then, a Nice Marine Flag would be nice

quikstrike -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/10/2006 10:14:52 AM)

Hey Devildog, the USMC primarily served on sea duty and aboard ships during the ACW...there weren't any real field engagements in which the USMC participated, save at First Bull Run--and the Corps' performance there was errrr...less than exemplary. Let's not talk about it. [sm=00000506.gif]

There really wouldn't be any use for a Marine flag in this game....

Semper Fi.

Hard Sarge -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/10/2006 10:54:11 AM)

if there were Marines aboard the ships, they fought, and there is always room for the Marine Flag

If we can't have an Illinios State Flag, how about one for Chicago? A politician on a field of gold with his hand extended behind him soliciting a bribe would seem most appropriate given the city's colorfull and "shady" past.

jbrown -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (12/10/2006 4:28:50 PM)

You got them here http://www.warflag.com/

Nope. That isn't it, but still a nice link [;)]

Ok. These are some flags we could use. Not historical so I recommand that by the name you add a note.

christof139 -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (1/2/2007 10:41:37 AM)

Here is a site with Illinois flags used in the ACW.

http://www.illinoiscivilwar.org/cwflags.html

For any State type in 'Michigan or whatever State i the Civil war' and many good and illustrated sites will pop-up.

Alan_Bernardo -> RE: Flags of our Great Great Great Great Great Grandfathers (1/2/2007 3:23:50 PM)

How do you put flags into the game?  Simply converting the flag over to *.pcx and dropping it into the forge of freedom/gfx/flags directory doesn't appear to work.  I've got the size requirements correct but the flag doesn't show up.

Is there more I have to do?

Thanks,

Alanb

Hey PixelPusher, i found a bunch of CSA and USA flags, including Lee's ANV HQ flag and others not in the game. I can't seem to upload them here, but I can send them to you in an email if you give me your email address, as I can't get them to load in PM either.

i am a dunce when it comes to emailing info., although I have done it a few years ago and sent JM Barbier of the NIR Project (TalonSoft Nappy Era and ACW site) in France some things.

Here is my email address:

christof139@hotmail.com

I can send the pics by regular email attachment.

I couldn't get the upload functions to function for me here in the forums or in PM.

here is another particular flag, the SC Sovereign Flag that is very sharp, and I want you all to use and enjoy these.

i have to look for Lee's ANV engineer JQ flag on the inet yet, but I know it is somewhere.

Thanx, Chris
