At one point he asked whether they had changed their methods since they first went to Vietnam and was told that they did not have to do so since everything worked much better than expected. From Moshe Dayans memories about his visit in the Pentagon.

There are a few points you may want to consider.

First, most likely Mosche Dayans was talking to beaurocrats. In all of my years of dealing with beaurocrats from city, county, state of federal levels there is one thing they have in common. They never make mistakes! It is always some-one else's fault!

Second, Vietnam was not lost by the military. That war was lost in the White House and Press.

Third, I once read from a WWII vets book that no country ever wins a war. One side makes one too many mistakes and loses. This tends to fit in well with my own experiences with my first point.

I see. You were somewhere further away than the candy shop on the corner. You suffered a culture shock, still not recovered your mind (which was even before not so much to speak of) and you are still the hero of the neighborhood. Wake up man. This aint no the 'hood.

Well I dont know too much about the Pentagon, but I had the impression that mostly soldiers work there. [;)]
As he said Thereupon he noted that the US Military never made any mistakes;. [;)] Last time you tried to argue you called the members of the 8th AF terrorists. So be careful what you reply. [;)] The side which achieves his objectives wins. The other who does not, loses.

What is the name of Saigon now? Thank you.

It is posible to win all battles and still lose a war. See Iraq aka Vietnam II.

I dont question the bravery, the skill and the sacrifice of the US service members who fought in Nam. I even know some. But Saigon is still Ho Chi Minh city now. They did what what their country asked of them, but you cant destroy a spirit with bullets. Check the already quoted Moshe Dayan report about Nam here.

I was an American Soldier, that is a line through time and space. "We" may well have done stupid things but "we" do things, my nation "does" things.....

Maybe that's why "our" flag flies on the moon and "we" never managed to get probed by a bear to the degree others did. Tell me how much fun it was to play Timmy Treadwell to Uncle Joe's Bear 141? I think I know but "we" have thus far managed to engage in some 200+ years without throwing the temper tantrums some other "we" have.....

"I" am an American, my brotherhood is not based on demanding unified race, creed, or heritage it just requires an adherence to "our" laws and a willingness to sacrifice for the nation in a jam.

Wish I could say the same applied to the places "we" have to plant "our" flag to keep our "betters" from killing each other over 1300 year old arguments.

What questioning "my" choice of pronoun has to do with the erroneous and easily disabused notion that the T-34 85II had a lower GP than the Sherman Easy8 is something "you" will have to explain to "me" and to a degree "us". "I" can play this either way "you" want. "I" can burn "you" on kit issues, or "I" can mock the fact that "we" have managed to settle a continent not cleanly but without 1300 year old issues of the state of being that led to "slav" being the loaded word it is based on slavery what it is. "I" have friends across the spectrum and don't find the collective "you" annoying just "you" the trolls.

best regards,
sven

a. I do not equal my country. How about you?
b. Altough I dont support Iraq (Afghanistan is another story) our govt has rushed to send troops to Iraq in 2003 and to Agfhanistan in 2001 as well. We lost one soldier in Iraq, and an area is overtaken by hungrain froces from the dutch in agfhanistan IN CASE YOU DID NOT KNOW.

lol such an uneducated a*hole.

Since I have represented the colors on more than one occasion and in different circumstances, that question likely answers itself.

What a load of commie bull..... you personally settled a continent? [:D]

Your basic problem is that you take an individual (you, me, anyone....) and project some group charactertistic onto an individual or vice versa. So you think that *merely* being a US solidier or indeed citizen allows you to boast such nonsense as in "WE put a flag on the moon" "we crushed communism" we did this we did that yadda yadda. Unless your real name is Neil Armstrong, you, my friend, did as much as I did to put a "flag on the moon" and that is - jack sh1t.

Your line of thinking whereby simply belonging to some large and heterogeneous group of people makes one eligible for anything and everything anyone belonging to that group ever did, while simoultaneously bashing some other individual for anything you might imagine "they" did, is basically communistic - as in: anti-individual - in nature. That's what Soviets liked to boast: "we put a man in the orbit", "we launched Sputnik", while actually waiting in line to buy bread. Yea right [:D]

Unless you did something *yourself* - as in fought and directly risked your life - against Jihadists and Commies keep your mouth shut. Otherwise, please list what exact hardships and risks you have taken fighting against evils of the world so that we can judge your individual merits? Not that I care what you did, really, but put your keyboard where your mouth is for the sake of some basic honesty.

Besides....

You made many factual mistakes in your post + at least one remark that can be listed as purely racist, but I won't even go there. Talking facts with Steakhouse cockroaches would be exercise in futility.
