Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (8/26/2007 11:18:45 PM)

The Soviets reinforce, and the stalemate on the Eastern Front continues! WA spies steal information about Axis production - so a good time for some current forces information! Note the relative strength of the major powers! The product of a lot of building and less fighting the last few turns. I expect that to change in '43!

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (8/26/2007 11:20:58 PM)

The US is concerned that MrQ was busy hammering the fleet trapped at Pearl harbor. But without sufficient carrier strength, the US must sit and wait. However, the Axis move against the Middle East requires a response. A combined attack from Transjordan with landings on the coast forces the Germans back out of Iraq. Egypt is subsequently reinforced to meet Rommel's army - consisting of panzers, infantry, and a fair amount of artillery sitting just to the west of Cairo!

Axis WI43

A couple German sub fleets try to run the gauntlet through a 2 cag sub screen. (asw 2)
Of the 4 attacks via opfire my subs roll bombard evasion 1 each and everytime. oh joy, 2 subs damaged one cag upgraded in exp.

I am happy to note that on the Allies previous turn my Spanish Flack had there glasses on and there aim was true enough to damage 2 HBs. Of course the HB with 26 suppression points only had 3 apply to the bombing run and thus damaged the factory anyway. But at least we took there numbers down a bit.

Japan continues to play around and decided to do a cag flying show in Seattle Washington.
The allies are gracious enough to supply floating targets in the harbor.

It appears that the Allies are going for 'the bomb' (at 6) and subs (6built) to kill a couple transports and watch Japan surrender fairly easily. I Will have to come up with a counter.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (9/3/2007 1:25:52 AM)

Winter passes with only minor skirmishes from the Allied side. A heavy bomber offensive against Germany's economy is picking up a little steam after the poor performance last turn.

Spring of '43! The Allies begin daylight bombing raids over the Reich itself. However, the cost is heavy to all sides!

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/8/2007 10:27:30 AM)

Current Production numbers.
There are more Rus Artillary Units on the map then actual Infantry Units.
Enourmous amount of Allied Fighter support from both fronts.
Once WA hits production x5 it will be just a matter of time.
A-bomb is at 7 in 43, that cant be good.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/9/2007 1:20:45 AM)

The standoff in the Soviet Union continues. I don't think there have been any major battles in more than a year! Montgomery attempts to push through the Turkish front, however. The resulting attritional battle is OK for the West, but the line holds. At this rate, we'll reach Berlin by about 1950! [;)]

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/15/2007 1:09:52 AM)

Axis Fall43

Only Fall43 and the Allies completely outnumber my forces, especially in Artillary.
Not much I can do with pop limits.
The Bomb is at 7.5 wont be long.
Germans abandon Turkey, no way to compete in Attrition game there.
East front is reinforced slightly, about 50 axis units holding the line against 71 Russian units. 26 of which I believe are Artillary and 10-15 air units. Russian and WA fighters have range3 which means they can chose just about any objective they wish, cant defend everything.

There was a bit of a scuffle in the Indian ocean.
Since the WA have decided on a Germany first strat, the Japs have had a fairly easy time.
A couple of carriers were sent in to knock out a WA carrier stationed in the Arabian Sea.
I finaly had a bit of luck and a WA fighter group on Cap over the Carrier failed to hit my CAG/s

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/17/2007 4:03:14 AM)

MrQuiet is keeping me from getting too comfortable, and the clock is ticking. Fall of '43 sees an epic battle in Russia, one of the largest battles I have seen of any game. As expected, losses are fairly even on both sides and the Soviets are repulsed - for now..... Hopefully, some real progress will be made in '44.

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/29/2007 12:37:16 AM)

Axis Springtime44

Germany did very little but dig in and try to hold the hordes of Artillary from our loving peacefull precious Cititzens.

Japan continues to play like a 'big boy' getting aggressive again in the Indian Ocean. (see screenshot)
Closer to the homeland we are 'hunting American Subs' with mixed results.
Forwarn has built 6 subs with evasion 4 and by my calculations he is 2 turns from A bomb.
To me that smells a lot like a easy Japan Surrender.

We are hopefully working on the counter.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/30/2007 7:40:31 AM)

Spring of '44 and "Big Red" finally advances in a truly massive combined arms offensive.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (10/30/2007 7:41:25 AM)

An attempt to attrition the Germans in Turkey is a disappointment, however.

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/4/2007 10:45:09 PM)

Ouch!
That battle decided who will win this match.
I thought I had enough armor to deny combined arms, but I must have been mistaken.
It does appear that massed soviet artillary is the best soviet strategy. If the soviets achieve 30-40 art units by 44 its lights out for Germany. I wonder what the effect would be if artillary cost 3?
6 supply in Poland and 7 in Romainia, so they all decided to retreat to Romainia for extra rashons I guess.

I would have felt bad about capitlizeing on a lend lease mistake I am sure Forwarn did not intend to make off the coast of N Russia, but after that East front battle I will take what I can get.

Good game and Forwarn45 might just be the one who wins this tournament!

Maybe the effect is that high because of the stacking of suppression during the artillery fire? Unless I'm mistaken each artillery unit benefits from others that have fired at the same target, that might be something to tweak.

Great AAR from both of you by the way, this is AWD at a high level! [8D]

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/5/2007 12:56:03 AM)

Summer of '44. The Soviets move forward into Eastern Europe as the Germans prepare defenses in rear areas. But the big news is in the West. After years of inaction, the British and American air and naval power hits the Germans in France in multiple waves - hitting the German shoreguns and heavily suppressing the German ground troops in preparation for a fairly historical D-Day.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/5/2007 12:59:52 AM)

By the way, India is in extreme jeopardy having been effectively blockaded by the Japanese fleet. But that is not a subject for polite conversation in Allied circles. [;)]

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/11/2007 1:10:31 AM)

Well I though a garrison of 3 8x8 infantry and 3 militia and 2 art and flak would do a much better job of holding off D DAy.
But 50% of the coastal artillary was knocked out by a fighter getting a auto hit and the art rolling bombard 1.
When the WA nuclear bombs fell on France for 3 months everyone in the country was dead, damaged or crying for there mommys. Compounded bombard damgage left the army completely useless.

It would take a garison of at least 10-15 units on each coastal tile to stop D Day if the Allies have nukes and Battleships.

Germans withdraw after taking back Romainia for a season or 2.
A 4x4 sub is damaged in the atlantic by tf auto hit, great[:(]

Since Germany will be signing surrender papers in a turn or 2 the Japs take matters into there own hands.
India is conqured except for one area which is unsupplied.

Russia is invaded since it is undefended and a bit to close to the Main Island.
Japs are getting better at hunting US subs in the Pacific and 2 are taken out of action this season.

Current situation

MrQuiet -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/11/2007 1:16:48 AM)

Current unit totals before Jap builds.
Notice only 12 WA transport fleets floating around.
76 have been destroyed and 12 damaged, but It does not stop them.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/12/2007 11:51:53 PM)

Ouch! Allied transport losses have been enormous and Allied high command is concerned about how to bring down the Japanese juggernaut. The A-bomb is actually not quite here just yet, as heavy bombers have level 8 tech. And the Soviets are paying the price for not dispatching a defensive force to the Far East in '44. All in all, I think the Allies have a tough fight on their hands!

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/12/2007 11:54:43 PM)

But back to Fall of '44 - the Soviets move into the Balkans and (temporarily, no doubt) severs the connection between Germany and Italy. Meanwhile, the Western Allies move against Spain. Spanish AA claims a few victims during the prepatory air assault (not shown) - but it clears the way for the Allied version of "blitzkrieg."

Axis Winter45

The noose is closing around Germany.
Italy will be out in 6 months or so.
Japan is our only hope of pulling a draw.

Screenshot shows the strong Allied Navy presence in the Med.
First time this game really, thanks to my lucky break of Spain Joining Axis.

Winter 45 Wolf Packs did very well or at least better than I expected.
Its to bad the Italian subs will defect when Italy falls.

Forwarn45 -> RE: 1 vs 1 Round3 MrQuiet vs Forwarn45 (11/18/2007 5:27:41 AM)

The Allies liquidate the traitorous Vichy French regime (at least on the continent) and hit the Allied air and naval forces in the Med. I forgot to take a screenshot, so I had to use replay. Anyway, here is the first air part of the battle. Meanwhile, the Soviets take up a position in Poland and the Western Allies move in to the Low Countries (more forces moved there after this screenie). Japan is still a nagging concern.

Spring45 Axis

Italy is still in the game and summuns air power stationed in Sicily to remove the 3 WA Heavy fleets floating in our territorial waters. All vitchy are transfered to the Boot for some wine.

Troops from Check are transferred to the Father land for there last stand.

WA has the bomb officially now and is gathering multiple sub fleets in the pacific.
There evil plan no doubt is to sink a couple transports and watch a very strong Japan just give up. (kinda rubs me this rule, Japan should be allowed a turn to re-establish its links to resources)

Screenshot is current Europe sp45

Gkar, I can't disagree with your assessment. 1943-1944 has seen consistently good play from MrQuiet while I think I've been shortsighted in certain respects (that I'll share after the game). [;)] But for now, the game continues.....
