Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/1/2008 11:15:37 PM)

Yeah, another thing that has happened now is that he is swarming the area with his subs. Im moving the fleet to Manilla and ordering all my ASW forces to the Malacca strait and the seas off Java and Borneo. Im moving all my subs to Balikpapan, and Im considering to reinforce Timor with one division from my strategic reserve.

This is a priority area since it is my core he is going after if he hits Timor. New Guinea and the pacific islands outside Saipan are just fluff...

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/1/2008 11:57:53 PM)

I know what he is up to. He will use his CAs to do bombardment runs on Timor on the same turn he is sending in his 200+ B-25s. The only way to defend against that is to have surface forces on patrol in the port hexes. To do that, I must have more fighters. I dont like this one bit.

I am moving in the 16th from Manilla, it should arrive within a week.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 12:34:09 AM)

Today my Tojos came online. 33 factories researching since Dec 41, and I get them three days before I should have otherwise. As of today I am cancelling all rd-factories.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 1:04:57 AM)

And the misscalculation of the day award goes to Castor and his idea to raid my convoy unloading at Thursday Island. Im not sure what kind of escort he was expecting, but surely he was not expecting this... All US ships sunk. No losses.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 1:14:40 AM)

The most amazing part about this naval engagement is that my TF was surprised during the first round.

Considering that it was a night engagement and the allied ships were burning (from mine hits probably). You have to be pretty bad to be surprised by a burning ship during a night engagement.

Superior Japanese night lookouts pffft. They must have been dead drunk.

I thought I'd mentioned before that all that counts on r&d is how many hundred(s) of factories you have. Anything less, like 99, does nothing.

2ndACR -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 2:45:15 AM)

And they always said that it was for each 100 a/c researched. Even the devs do not understand the code. Not against you J.

As in for each 100 a/c produced (33 per month X 3 months) would give you a so-called advance in the 4th month. No matter what the size of the R&D factories. And that the r&d a/c added up slowly.

jwilkerson -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 11:32:14 AM)

That's what it says - but that's not how it works - I got educated by PzB! Once I started building up r&d to multiples of 100 I could see the results.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 1:14:02 PM)

So in other words, R/D is just a gigantic waste of production?

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 3:06:00 PM)

I just had a conversation with Castor. Apparently he will never take the bases in India and instead he will use them as pilot training.

Oh I wouldn't say that. I just used it for what I'd call the key fighters, Tony, Tojo, Jack, Frank and the second generation of carrier planes, A5, B6, D4. But I wouldn't build up more than 300 R&D because IIRC, we have never seen planes come in more than 3 months early.

But you have to build up the R&D factories to more than 100+ or 200+ or 300+ (tops) and then hope for 1-3 months early arrival. That is how the r&d game works.

Is there a thread where these bits of "education" are collected and published ???

Thanks

You really think so? You see no difference between the RAF bombing an Indian city empty of any resemblance of Japanese forces and the Japs bombing an allied base that they will soon use to stage attacks into the NEI from?

You see nothing wrong with the RAF sending hundreds and hundreds of fighters to strafe an Indian city?

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 5:26:28 PM)

Castor said he would only stop his training in India if we end all pilot training alltogether. I told him I agree, because I prefer to meet his airforce with 35 exp-pilots than watch him train his pilots by bombing Indian cities.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/2/2008 7:11:57 PM)

The southern SRA is brewing. Recon tells me there are over 1000 aircraft on the northern coast of Australia.

Here is the situation in Australia.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/5/2008 12:44:40 PM)

I am pleased to report that the 4th Division just finished debarking at Lauterm, that means I have roughly three divisions on Timor, together with one Army HQ and one Area Army HQ. Timor is starting to look safe.

Meanwhile, a mixed brigade has debarked at Soerebaja to strengthen the Java defences aswell.

Allied heavy bombers have attacked Hanoi twice. So I shall have to reinforce my fighter cover over my strategic resources now. The Tojo-line is up and running with a production of 130 Tojos a month right now. Most fatories are in the middle of upgrading though, and the goal is to have 200+ Tojos coming off the assembly lines per month.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/7/2008 11:08:53 AM)

I tried to set an ambush over Akyab today. And it worked. Instead of basing fighters at Akyab, I have them based at Rangoon and on LRCAP over Akyab. Old Castor walked right into that one.

B-26s wont be in fighting condition any time soon, they all turned back with moral in shambles no doubt. Wellingtons...well, you can see the results. Of the damaged aircraft ~10 were damaged by AAA, the rest by my fighters.

Also, the A6M3a fighter came online. I am right now in the process of resetting all of the Japanese aircraft industry. All other production is halted while the fighter factories change their production lines from Oscars and A6M3s to Tojos and A6M3a:s

hi Joe

nice job[8D][:'(]. I guess i can't get any answers... hmm, lets say i would like that you done that on time in my AAR...i've asked you to do that, if you recall... but i guess some are more equal than others[:D]. So called american egalite[:D]
Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi..

so no more questions about gamey training on empty bases, gamey movees? That isn't allowed here?

let me thank you for locking Corner, and quote one guy:[:D]

Yeah, thats horrible. Such a shame... In the future we should all strive only to post words of encouragement and admiration.

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/8/2008 9:49:38 AM)

Perhaps you could take that disucssion in a PM instead of using my AAR-thread to complain about the mods?

Hortlund -> P38s over Dilli (3/8/2008 1:46:05 PM)

Today we met the dreaded P-38 for the first time. They came from 8th FG who did a sweep over Dilli.

The results were somewhat surprising. My Oscars got 10 kills for 2 losses, and my Zeros 4 kills for no losses.

[image]local://upfiles/1562/E3EA84D27F394712BB5831C615652D3C.jpg[/image]

Hortlund -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/12/2008 11:06:39 PM)

Tomorrow might be interesting. Ive spotted something that looks like a British BB setting up for a bombardment run on Andaman Island, and I have the Musashi there with two CAs.

Hortlund -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/13/2008 1:37:38 PM)

Meh, the cowardly allied bandits retreated instead of coming to the fight. We will soon enter December and nothing exciting whatsoever is going on.

jwilkerson -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/14/2008 6:28:47 AM)

The smart move for the Allies is to fast trans some small combat and engineer units into Kai and the other two islands between Kai and Darwin and build up fighter bases ... and at Kai level-4. This will remove requirement to use carriers to invade Timor and or Ceram.

And once Timor and or Ceram are built up them SRA becomes vulnerable.

I usually make greater defensive effort in this area, but we have been over this ground before so I should not beat it to death.

But spot P-38 first show up could be seen as telegraphing of enemy priorities.

Hortlund -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/14/2008 10:01:44 AM)

ok, ok, I will put some NLF on Kai to force him to do a real invasion and not just a transport. Im building up all the other bases in the region so why not.

Hortlund -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/14/2008 2:19:53 PM)

Im in the process of reassigning the 6th Division from China to the SRA. 6th will be split up into regiments and put on the bases around Ambonia.

I fear the allies will attempt their first offensive in this area, and I want to make sure I have enough boots on the ground to make them pay dearly for any such attempt.

Meanwhile the KB is in Sasebo exchanging their A6M2s for A6M3as..

Hortlund -> RE: P38s over Dilli (3/14/2008 2:52:20 PM)

This is what the area looks like right now.

[image]local://upfiles/1562/F101165B4A9949ABA47924438112D1F6.jpg[/image]

Ive got one regiment from the 6th as well as a tank regiment heading to Babo right now. So the anchor-points right now for the defensive line are Lauterm, Ambonia, Babo.

6 Engineer regiments are fortifying Bulla and the island next to Ambonia. As soon as the fort levels are at 9, they will move on, and combat units will take their place there instead. The local reserve is at Kendari and right now it consists of 3 SNLF units of approx 120 AVs that can be airlifted into any base at one days notice (transport planes are at Jolo to be kept safe from enemy bombers).

The area can also be reinforced relatively quickly from Java (2 brigades) or Manilla (16th Division and 2nd Tank Division)

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/14/2008 5:50:32 PM)

Tomorrow Im setting a little trap in Burma. We shall see if old Castor walks into it or not...

Hortlund -> RE: West Wind, Clear (3/14/2008 6:20:51 PM)

Well, well, well...what have we here? A submarine invasion perhaps?

In other news. The ambush in Burma failed, he went for Akyab instead. Also, in a move that can only be described as "breathtakingly foolish" the allies tried to sneak a lone AR past my base at Thursday Island.
