November 28th, 1942 My attempt to surprise his night raiders with TOJOs fails as the Tojos dont even touch his Bmbers (who miss anyway). Zeros, Kates & Vals (Mostly the JUNYOs air group) hit Kunming and shoot down [or destroyed on the ground] several I-16C fighters. Another Japanese raid on Thursday Island costs the Allies 5 Warhawks and 5 AirCobrras, for a single A6M3. 75 4 Engine bombers & 63 B-25s hit the troops at Efate, over 200 casualties were suffered. Another day another strike in Burma flown w/o Fighter escort! Not one but two different fighter groups refuse to fly again! Luckily for me only a handful of Curtis Mohawks are flying CAP and not a single bomber was lost. But my Carrier group in the North Sea located and attacked the heavily damaged and retreating, USS South Dakota. The 1st wave of 4 KATES all miss, but then...... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Day Air attack on TF at 94,35 Japanese aircraft D3A Val x 13 B5N Kate x 16 Allied aircraft P-38G Lightning x 3 Japanese aircraft losses D3A Val: 4 damaged B5N Kate: 1 destroyed, 11 damaged Allied Ships BB South Dakota, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage [And is SUNK!] DD Rathburne, Bomb hits 3, on fire, heavy damage [and is Sunk] That should make him wary about bringing surface forces in to force a landing at Attu. But now he might use all of his carriers. I believe that by now he must have repaired the Lexington, though I have not spoted her at ll. I did get a spot on a possible carrier moving by Canton Island days after my failed invasion. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My troops once more try to force the Allies off the beach at Efate, but the effects of Allied airpower are too great and only a 0:1 can be obtained. The Japanese troops suffer 32 casualties, while the Allies suffer 39; I fear this was my last chance to defeat his land forces at Efate.

What was the weather like during the battleship action? I don't know if WitP is sophisticated enough, but if there were major winds in the area, it could have caused many of the torpedoes to broach out of the water.

Cross polination...hey thats pretty good for a guy that doesnt spend too much time in the garden. Perhaps thats why I couldn't figure out the next verse[:D] For some reason I don't think that the weather...SNOW...had any effect on how true or untrue the torpedoes ran. In an earlier surface combat I fired around 80 Long Lance torpedoes and only three hit then as well; and that was in and around Luganville in decent weather in the spring.

November 29th, 1942 A hit for Floyd's Night Attacks on "Manpower" at Taung Gyi, although I see no damage at all. This was followed by several unsuccessful IJN ASW attacks...very frustarting when they all end up "Fail to find". Several Raids are made over Australia by IJA and IJNAF planes, but the most interesting is made by 11 B-24's flying from Alice Springs! Its only a level 4 now, but soon that might spell trouble for my blocking force on the Darwin-Charter Towers-Alice Springs crossroads. Another raid is made on Thursday Usland, while only minor danage is done to the base 2 out of 3 Kittyhawks who attempted to intercept my planes were shot dwon by the escorting ZEROs. 24 B-26's and 6 Wellingtons hit Attu's port, putting 3 bombs in one damaged AP and 1 in another, while also hitting the damaged I-31 critically. Two IJAAF Sweeps are launched in Burma and target the air over the advancing 17th Indian Division. The 1st sweep of 32 TOJOS encountered a small number of P-38's from a detachment of the AVG; 4 Tojos were lost in exchange for only a single P-38. Thankfully on the second sweep, 20 TONYS flew in and downed 5 P-38's w/o any loss to their planes. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ground combat at Akyab Allied Deliberate attack Attacking force 19824 troops, 182 guns, 453 vehicles, Assault Value = 570 Defending force 7793 troops, 80 guns, 0 vehicles, Assault Value = 174 Allied max assault: 505 - adjusted assault: 95 Japanese max defense: 149 - adjusted defense: 1541 Allied assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 3) Japanese ground losses: 160 casualties reported Guns lost 6 Allied ground losses: 290 casualties reported Guns lost 16 *I bet he was happy to only see 3 Forts. November 30th, 1942 How freaking frustrating this game can be! (Yet I still LOVE it!) I have 3 x Divisions, 2 x Brigades, 2 x Tank Regiments, an Artillery Regiment and an Engineer Regiment (in addition to an Army HQ) marching from Yenen to Kungchang. Well for the past three days (turns) they have been stuck at 30 miles, then today they all read 15 miles! What happened? We freeze for three days and then move backwards?? Arrrrgggghhhhh! December 1st, 1942 Once again Im find myself nearly two weeks in arears of game time....yesh! The turn starts typically with an ineffective Allied Night Raud, this time versus Mandalay. December 2nd, 1942 Allied troops continue to unload at Efate and over 300 casualties are suffered while another AP takes two shell hits from Imperial Japanese Forces. The SS Truant is hit first by a SALLY and then by a HELEN off Rangoon and then sinks! Additionally the SS SNapper is hit by a JAKE. My NICKS intercept the Baeufighters over Pagan (Burma) but then again miss them completely. An IJN ASW TF up north puts a single hit on the SS Argonaut; a start but not enough to deter her. FLoyd has a squadron of USMC SBDs based at Nanomea. December 4th, 1942 � As the day begins the I-25 is spotted and hit by a Sunderland up in the Aleutians...darn! Another round of ineffective IJN ASW attacks...."fail to find".... "fail to find"..... "fail to find" [X(] Assorted Allied Air attacks against Luganville cause more casualties and destroy a few guns. 11 Hudsons from Funafuti put a few more bombs in to the PG Kaiun Maru, sinking her. The South Seas Detachment, two large SNLF and three large Naval Guard Infantry Units are definites; the Tank Rgt and an additional SNLF may be held in reserve. Actually I am going to definitely hold back the Tank Regiment for the possibility of Wallis Isand....or to use as a reserve if things get hairy! If he were using 4 Engine Bombers I'd probably be getting pounded some since night AA even from IJA AA Rgts seems totally ineffective.
