T_K -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 8:30:16 AM)

File sent to France.

Now I think I forgot to give out some peace cards... sorry it's my first pbem game at all - but it does say "for noobs" in the title... [:'(]

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 10:25:58 AM)

Aye Woodruff, join, and punish Herr Bulldog for his ignorance. [;)] He has been trying to bully Russia into supporting his conquest of Europe.

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 11:29:02 AM)

Woodruff, don't get your knickers in a twist its just a game [;)] This was my post on 1/01/08

quote:

Should be able to start a game tomorrow, at the latest Friday. Can people who already have slots and are going to play PM the player before them in the list with their E-Mail address so that they can send their turn once the game starts. You can start doing this now if you like.

Thanks peeps
There had to be some cut off date as most players wanted to start the game. Sorry if you felt that we started too soon but we hadn't heard from you for a number of days and Delyn hadn't received your E-Mail address. Please let Delyn know what you and Slowhand decide so that he can send his turn.
With regards to Delyn's cheeky comment about me trying to gain Russia's favour this is another of Britain's terrible propaganda lies, one of many I may add. In any case, how could I contact Russia, nobody has been available to play them until now! [:-]

Shame on you Delyn.

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 12:08:35 PM)

You can see yourself how keen he was to install a puppet regime in your place Woodruff. [;)]

Woodruff -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 12:51:24 PM)

My thanks to Slowhand for his willingness to step back aside once I was made aware that the game had started, however once I was dismissed from this game so quickly, I joined another.

As I have no interest in playing two games at once, I will remain away from this one and I certainly wish Slowhand well in it.

I wanted to post a public message so that everyone would know to contact him as Russia.

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 1:21:19 PM)

Woodruff, thanks for the post. Sorry you couldn't join us. Perhaps next time. Good luck in your new game.

Turn sent to Great Britain

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:00:51 PM)

Anybody know if I need an HHQ in Ireland? If I produce something in Dublin, can i deposit it in London?

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:13:09 PM)

I believe it automatically transfers it for you without the need to build HQ (or does it! lol).[:'(]

mllange -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:19:10 PM)

I'm no expert, (as I've stated), but there are situations where ship production away from your HQ will result in the completed ship 'waiting' for a nearby HQ to deliver it to. I've tried producing ships away from my HQ port and they never arrived... I'll try to read up a bit more for an answer.

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:28:07 PM)

LOL I have the turn open, and with the German Wolf just a short ship ride away, I don't want to risk losing production in my first tuen [:D]

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:29:09 PM)

Also, I'm offered the chance to e.g. Build a ship in Dublin, so what's the point of shipwarves? Can they ONLY produce ships, and other cities can produce anything?

mllange -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 5:50:25 PM)

Based on Tweber's replies in another thread, it appears so.

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 6:40:25 PM)

Done and sent to slowhand. It's certainly a lot of fun with so many human players around.

GrumpyMel -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 8:36:50 PM)

Delyn,

I believe the way it works with over-seas production is that as long as you have an open ship lane you can produce anything BUT ships in the overseas production center and it'll show up in the recieving HQ. The ships Produced in the overseas Production center will instead attach to a unit in the Production Centers hex. Anyway that's how it seemed to work when I tried a test game.

Mel

Delyn Locksmiths -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 9:30:47 PM)

Thanks Mel. I build ships in Dublin. But never mind, I can create a unit to carry them over to London no doubt.

The way diplomacy has gone, I'm glad there's a channel between me and the mess on the continent!

SlowHand -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/5/2008 10:08:11 PM)

OK, I'm up and downed my coffee: I am about to open the turn.

1. Russia of course has no territorial ambitions on our fellow peace-loving Nations. We would not attack anyone --- on Turn 1 at least

2. Lots of bellicose talk has aroused the Tsar's concerns, and we remind our fellow Sovereigns that Russia has mighty Armies to defend the Rodina. And cold Winters.

3. Do any parties have any Diplomatic Arrangements they wish to declare? Secret deals will be looked at unkindly by the International Community. Post-war Tribunals will of course punish any evil-doers.

SlowHand -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 2:44:24 AM)

Apologies for the delay. My normally _very_ reliable ISP was/is having conn problems.

I just manged to get my turn uploaded (500+KB) and sent my turn off to Turkey (Therockyfroggy)

@ BULLDOG (and others): Should we create a new thread in the AAR section of the AT forum, and start posting comments (and occasional pics) there?  We might pick up a derisive Peanut Gallery. An appropriate thread title and copy/paste of the post about the set-up and turn order?

mllange -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 3:16:02 AM)

I'm game for the AAR ... do we want to include a two-turn delay or go realtime?

Yes to the "only produce ships" and a qualified yes to "other cities can produce anything?" questions. At least some Nations have "Supply Base town/cities" which only produce Supply and PPs. And finally, the "point of ship wharves" is that they are hexes where you can port fleets for re-supply, or create new Naval Units.

2 other things you can do when you build new ships at a City Port:

(1) "Transfer" the ships (the T-Hotkey) where they are built to a unit at sea or another port. Given the high 20-hex range of this scenario's Naval units, you can send them quite far. BUT, be sure the Transfer Lane isn't interdicted by an enemy's Anti-supply efforts --- losing a BB or a Cruiser that way is painful. Note that the unit receiving the transfer will have its Formation APs set to zero, so be sure to finish your Naval Movement before doing so. Individual sub-units of the receiving Formation retain their AP, and could still be used, but you would need to create a new unit (and hence be in a Wharf or Port city) and then dump the just-transferred units into the new unit. This burns a PP, but you might wish to do so to have

(2) Create a new HQ unit in the producing Naval-Only City, if the situation warrants. You can then use that HQ unit with some Cargo ships to transfer (via the T-Hotkey again) Naval Supplies to your fleets at sea, thus allowing them to stay at sea. You could also assign another city to that HQ so that supplies and new ships would go directly there IF the path is not interdicted by Enemy Anti-Supply. In that case, some/many/all Supplies are lost, and Unit production is "bottled up" in the production queue of the 2nd city.

Given the devious diplomatic dealings, I think even 2 turns would be too soon. Perhaps a player just posts whatever info they wish to whenever, subject to the wrath of Allies, if one is indiscrete? Just my .02.

Also, since we'd be posting comments about turns being sent, and "how-to's," and some game events (those known to all players?), I'd prefer it if the AAR thread were not too filled with graphics. One thing that'd help there is to clip and size any pics to only what's needed, or in any case sized down to 800x600.

therockyfroggy -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 4:19:17 AM)

Turkey's turn is done. First PBEM AT game so I'm pretty psyched.

all5n -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 6:59:19 AM)

So, in one of my more retarded moves i accidentally gave 10pp to Britian... Played the wrong card. This game is not too forgiving without an undo button for non-combat stuff like that. But its still my fault [:(]

Anyway, i would please ask as a gentlemans agreement that the 10pp be given back on the next turn.

It is Scandanavia's turn.

GrumpyMel -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 8:03:07 AM)

Scandinavia has completed it's turn and passed along to Germany. Looks like the first turn has been completed guys!

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 8:29:26 PM)

That went quicker than I thought. My turn has just been sent to Italy. I see a lot of deals have been struck on the first turn [:)].  All quiet so far....

With regards to AAR's its up to each of you individually if you want to post now or later. Personally I am going to post on about turn 4 as I haven't really much to report yet. I will then post turns 1, 2, 3 then.

Please feel free to post when and what you want yourselves. Each of you will have your own reasons when they want to post. If you do try making it as colourful as possible [;)]

mllange -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/6/2008 11:40:53 PM)

Turn 2 forwarded to The Balkans. Internal strife and unrest threaten to disrupt my afternoon naps since agreeing to assume control of the government to aid our beloved people. So much for rest and relaxation, perhaps another bottle of wine will calm my nerves. I was so looking forward to summer at Club Med...

T_K -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/7/2008 12:52:32 AM)

Turn 2 sent to whoever it needed to be sent (France?? I forget :( )

SlowHand -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/7/2008 8:25:56 AM)

@ Bullldog: did you catch the stuff about starting a new thread in the AAR forum, and moving our discussion over there?

EDIT: in post #78

As the instigator of this game, the privilege is yours ... but not the obligation :)

If you wish to delegate that task, I could do it Tuesday ... tomorrow is hectic, unless someone else volunteers.

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/7/2008 3:20:24 PM)

Slowhand, your quite welcome to start the AAR thread. I think the confirmation of each players turn should still be here on the opponents wanted thread e.g. 'Have sent turn 2 to Italy'. Just so we know who we are waiting for.

I will have to get to grips with using MS paint, never used it before looks quite simple. I am in a bit of a mess being a noob in that I have no supply and all troops are using foot movement so I don't want to embarass myself until something more interesting happens and I get my units into better shape [:(].

BULLDOGINTHEUK -> RE: European Diplomacy (for noobs) (1/7/2008 4:04:18 PM)

Yes, I'm getting the hang of the MS Paint facility [:D]
