Prince they mainly fight one another or togheter against the Police but in case of Euro 2012 i think they will not bother to attack normal fans from around the Europe but they may be fighting Hooligans from other Europeans Countrys.

thegreatwent -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/9/2008 10:59:20 PM)

Gah, can't watch the game live but am getting the play by play. Why are the Italians collecting so many penalties, three yellow cards by my count.[X(] Maybe they are really drunk[:D]

Netherlands 3 Italy 0. I must say I didn't see that coming. This may end up being a year for surprises[:)]

A deserved victory for Total Football tonight [&o]

I'm not surprised Holland have won, but I thought it would only be a single goal...

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/9/2008 11:44:38 PM)

Yes, scoring 3 goals against the Italians is not normal at all...

Remember what I said, they almost always do the same... a lousy start and then... somehow... But this time they will need many miracles. They are in the Death Group (France, Italy and Holland [X(]). And don't forget Romania... kind of underdogs, from what I have read.

So, Holland & Romania will get to the next phase anyone...?

What a great second goal by Holland. The first one, Ruud was a mile offside!!!!!!!!

Actually, he wasn't offside. There was this italian defender that bumped together with his own goalie and fell just outside the pitch. Since he hadn't left the pitch with the referee's consent, he's considered to be 'in play' and so cancels the offside.

This rule is to intended to prevent a defender from stepping out of the pitch just to put an attacker offside (Note however, if he had left the pitch as a result of a 'bump' with a dutch player, this wouldn't be vaild).

That's why the first goal was allowed.

True.

From the rules:
"A defender who leaves the field during the course of play and does not immediately return must still be considered in determining where the second to last defender is for the purpose of judging which attackers are in an offside position. Such a defender is considered to be on the touch line or goal line closest to his or her off-field position. A defender who leaves the field with the referee's permission (and who thus requires the referee's permission to return) is not included in determining offside position."

As if the offisde rule wasnt already difficult, thats just f*$ked up.

Great football by the orange. Now lets hope they dont start fighting with each other like they always do!

looking forward to Russia beating Spain tomorrow [:)]

Agreed ... and this is one rule that van Nistelroy is expert at exploiting.

Thx for the Info.

But we have bigger problems now. I hope the dutch won`t play like this the whole tournament, else we could save much time, when we give them the cup at once. [:D]

And the Offside: I guess the rule was made for the defenders who leave the field intentionally, using the rule this way maybe correct, but it remains strange.

Just £5 on the qualifiers from the groups, plus a few other £5 bets scattered here and there on the potential winners. [:)] If I'm right it should net me about £400 [8D]

EDIT: THis is almost what I expected from the Italians. They will grind out a winning result (like they often do) against France and I fully expect them to beat Romania. Holland will beat Romania and 6 points will see them out of the group, and all 9 points are a possibility if they play like they did for the first 45 minutes yesterday.

France to finish with 1 point anyone? [:D]

thegreatwent -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 11:42:10 AM)

Keep in mind that I'm the naive colonial here, but I woulda bet on Italy first then France advancing. Three null by the Netherlands is incredible considering Italy's World Cup performance. I have now gotten to see some video and the Italians looked lost, no counterattack no urgency IMO not what they should have been. But again I know more about American football plus I thought the Bulgarians had a chance in '94 [:D]

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 3:09:59 PM)

Thegreatwent, but don't forget France played much better than Italy in World Cup Final. And yes, they lost the same. Which means these competitions are a sort of lottery, a KO Tournament.

In a sense, your NBA system is much better, much more just... The best team really wins: the seven-games series. You may be lucky (or unlucky) in one match, but not in all of them. In the end the best squad prevails. So no place for cry-babies (the "referee" thing).

But the problem is: you cannot play a football match every 2 days. Physically impossible.

But this is an important part of this game - one can never be sure!
So Germany had to be a little afraid of Poland and Brazil doesn't get the world championship every 4 years...

cantona2 -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 5:08:36 PM)

Italy will get through, they always get through. Pirlo and Gattuso look like a spent force though.

TulliusDetritus -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 5:20:20 PM)

Historiker, but Brazil is not that superior... Italy, Argentina, France, Germany are there too.

If Brazil plays 10 matches against let's say Jamaica, they will win 9 and draw 1...

But if they play against the 4 mentioned above the result would be very different, much more adjusted (Brazil would lose many matches that is) [;)]

And sorry, but Germany is not the ol' Football Machine anymore. The South Korea / Japan World Cup final (for example) was truly pitiful. I mean, Brazil massacred the decadent German team. Not to mention the World Cup played in Germany...

cantona2 -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 6:33:43 PM)

Tulius

I think that the Germans have a point to prove in these Euros, seeing as Sundays match was the first they had won since winning Euro 96

Dixie -> RE: Very OT : Euro 2008 (6/10/2008 6:45:20 PM)

You can never rule out Ze Germans at tournaments.  If they want to get to the final, they will have to beat Portugal IMO in regular time.

It looks like some more money coming my way [8D]  However for some reason the odds on Spain winning were not particularly generous [&:][:D]
