I was JUST getting ready to post, in reply to T, that you're lucky I didn't post the picture of the English Football fan I found on Google. One more American Football isn't Football comment and I just might have to. [;)]

Oooh, them's fightin' words... American Football is a silly sport that doesn't involve feet or balls.[:'(]

Actually , it involves both. And decends from two British games. Football (soccer) and the game that it evolved from , "Kick the Dane's Head". Oops! [:D]

It's easy, really! [:)]

quote:

Since the German spelling reform of 1996, either ß or ss is used for the representation of an /s/ in a syllable onset (where a normal s would be pronounced /z/) as follows:

1. ß is used after long vowels, for instance in grüßen (‘to greet’) or in the related words grüßt (‘greets’), grüß! (‘greet!’);
2. ß is used after diphthongs, for instance beißen (‘to bite’) or in the related words beißt (‘bites’), beiß! (‘bite!’);
3. ss is used after short vowels, for instance küssen (‘to kiss’) or in the related words küsst (‘kisses’), küss! (‘kiss!’).

Note that in words where the stem changes, some forms may have an ß but others an ss, for instance sie beißen (‘they bite’) vs. sie bissen (‘they bit’).

Some instances of /s/ immediately following a long vowel or a diphthong in a syllable coda require ß, such as groß ('large'), and others require s, such as los ('away', several other uses). The correct spelling is not predictable and must be learned for each case.

Note the last sentence. [:D]

Tomorrow I'll travel to London for a couple of days, visiting my sister. I'm still undecided which museum I'm going to visit on the first day. There are 3 museums near my sister's workplace, where I will meet up with her tomorrow evening:

a) Natural Museum of History
b) Victoria & Albert Museum
c) Science Museum

Which one? YOU DECIDE!!! Not really, but some input would be nice...

Dixie?

My vote's for the science museum. But you forgot the RAF mueum at Hendon! (Actually the stop is Colingdale).

Science Museum it is!

Have a nice weekend/holiday!

I spent a week in Germany as part of an exchange trip. We spent a couple of days in school learning what the German system was like. (What kind of lunatic thought o8something in the morning is a good time to be at school?). One of the lessons was a German lesson with various uses of the words dass and das IIRC. I scored 2 correct [:D] strangely though I was middle of the class [X(][X(]

Well, mine started today. [8D]

My brother is coming down to visit for the long weekend. My wife is off work after tonight, and the weather forcast looks good. I anticipate drinking, pool time, drinking, grilling some meat, drinking, watching some fireworks, and maybe a little drinking. [;)]

Lots of side splitting laughter is the one guaranteed ingredient. [8D] My brother and I couldn't stand each other for the most part when we were growing up, and now we are the best of friends. [:)]

I'm going to my Mother's, giant block party with all of the neighbors, swimming, drinking plenty of Budweiser(cider[;)]) and smoking plenty of ribs/brisket and perhaps other herbs.
The whole place turns into a warzone after dark. Probably heading over to the local detox center the following two days.[;)]
