I'm with USS. It's much easier to stay warm than get cool. You can only take so much off. You can always put on more clothes.

But heat in and of itself is much easier to tolerate than bone-chilling cold, imho.

That's because your avatar is a cold blooded lizard. [:D]

Steve, if I were my avatar....

I probably got a girl from Allstate fired that way....

Allstate Girl: So are you a gecko too?
Me: I wish
AG: Its because of the accent, right
Me: Absolutely
AG: So you can impress all the ladies
Me: Ummm....maybe
AG: Teehee

I guess she liked me cause after that she told me a lot more information about the file than I had any legal right to know.

I don't care for their beer, but I very much like the company (makes me wish that I did like larger). They treat their employees very well, and is generally a good "citizen", especially for a mega-corp. They are passionately patriotic (visit one of their theme parks and you'll see, plus visiting servicemen and their families are generally there for free).

Good morning - Tithe. [&o][&o][&o]

rtrapasso -> RE: THE THREAD!!! (7/10/2008 12:42:01 PM)

i've lived in unpleasantly hot (Houston) and unpleasantly cold (North of Buffalo, Connecticut) places: i much prefer the hot... going outside at the height of unpleasantness in (say) Houston on a bad day isn't going to literrally kill you in 10 minutes like going out on a bad day in winter (say, during a cold day when the wind is blowing)... or if it doesn't kill you, you can get permanent damage due to frostbite.

If you've lived in both for years at a time you'll be more in a position to judge... but if you've only lived in hot climates to claim hot climate are the worst is, well, uninformed.

My son used to make such claims (having lived in Virginia, N. Carolina) - said it would be nice to live in Chicago... the "cold is much easier to deal with than the heat, I can take the cold."

Then we moved to Maryland, and got a big snowstorm... (he was about 20 or so, and we left him home as he was in college while we went off on vacation - just missing the snowstorm).

After the storm (which dumped a couple of feet of snow) he decided to go out in it... and literallly almost died (he had to crawl the last 50 feet or so back into the house)...

He stopped talking about moving to Chicago after that, and elected to stay in Maryland (just outside DC) rather than move to Connecticut when we did a few years later.

ST. LOUIS - Anheuser-Busch Cos. rejected an unsolicited $46 billion purchase offer from InBev Thursday, just hours after the Belgian brewer appeared to set the stage for a hostile takeover bid.

Anheuser-Busch Chief Executive August Busch IV sent a letter to InBev Chief Executive Carlos Brito saying the offer greatly undervalued the largest U.S. brewer, calling the $65-a-share price "financially inadequate" and not in the best interests of its shareholders.

"From your standpoint, we see that now could be opportunistic timing for you to make this acquisition, given the weak U.S. dollar and sluggish U.S. stock market," Busch said in the letter. "From the standpoint of the Anheuser-Busch shareholder, however, a transaction with InBev at this time would mean forgoing the greater value obtainable from Anheuser-Busch's strategic growth plan."

Earlier in the day, InBev filed a suit in Delaware court, where Anheuser-Busch is incorporated, seeking to officially declare that shareholders can remove all 13 members of Anheuser-Busch's board. Such a declaration could be the first step to rally Anheuser-Busch shareholders to accept InBev's offer, even if management is opposed to it.

"This is an extremely aggressive step," said Douglas Cogen, a mergers and acquisitions attorney with the Fenwick & West law firm in San Francisco.

In most acquisitions, a rejection from the target company's board of directors might draw out a sweeter offer. InBev's move suggests it's not interested in a lot of bartering, Cogen said.

"Before this was filed, you could have guessed about whether (InBev) would have another round and upped their bid," Cogen said. "To sort of come right out and say we're looking to replace the board ... it's about as aggressive as you can get."

Busch said in his letter to Brito that Anheuser-Busch had its own plan to boost its stock price. The stock was trading around $50 before speculation began to simmer about InBev's all-cash offer of $65 a share.

"Our company already has developed a detailed, accelerated earnings growth plan ..." Busch said in the letter. The company plans to expand its cost-cutting initiative, called the Blue Ocean, to save more than $750 million through 2009, and save $1 billion through 2010.

The company also plans to drive additional sales for its core brands of Budweiser and Bud Light through "new consumer opportunities."

The letter does not lay out details for these plans, nor set a specific timeframe by which Anheuser-Busch could boost share value.

Shares of the U.S. brewer fell 41 cents to $61.35 in trading Thursday.

good now maybee they can stop running the microbreweries out of buisness by not allowing them to be distributed.

Having spent the first half of my life in extreme northern New York and the second half in Florida. I agree with you. I will take the hot. Also, you don't half to worry if your car will start in the morning if it is 30 below.

Heat stoke generally won't kill you in 10 minutes especially if you drink plenty of water.

I have no problem with InBev running AB. However, I do agree that the moves the InBev is making are extremely aggressive and it's not at all clear that it would actually improve the product.

Bottom line I doubt it will ever happen. Both MO senators are staunchly opposed. Congress would get involved and squelch in hostile take over of such an American brand...for better or for worse.
