Javakamp -> What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 3:02:29 PM)

Today marks 7 months since the announcement of AE. Now that we have had 7 months to talk about all the new features in AE, I thought it might be fun to talk about what new features everyone is looking forward to in AE.

Feel free to comment on other people's choices as well as posting your own.

So let me start with one of the things I am most looking forward to is having waypoints. This will be a huge aid in getting ships from point A to point B while avoiding bad guys. I know it's not the most glamorous feature, but it will get a lot of use in my games.

What about everyone else.

"Smothering" being a viable tactic. No more nuclear shore bombardments. Intel gathering missions being more survivable. Resupply sufficiently important that attacks on the MSR either force the defender to fall back, fortify his dumps, or hedge-hog.

rockmedic109 -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 4:29:12 PM)

Differing maintenance for different planes.   Better supply.  More historical.  Better logistical model for base forces and base forces needed for ship loading and unloading.

Far too many to list because over the last seven months I know I've forgotten several big ones.

Mike Solli -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 4:43:23 PM)

Japanese pilot training program.
All the new stats for aircraft.

bradfordkay -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 5:13:58 PM)

Port size restrictions on TF refueling, among others. I try to do this on my own now, so it will be nice to have it automatically done for me!

40 mile hexes (more bases!).

Mike Solli -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 5:22:35 PM)

Port size restrictions for disbanding.

Atoll size restrictions.

Iridium -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 5:28:43 PM)

Improved ship damage model. 40 mi hexes, making everything even more complicated (it's a good thing). Base statistics that make more sense; supply, aircraft capacity, etc.

John Lansford -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 6:22:06 PM)

Sub patrol areas, and the plethora of new ship classes and types.  Smaller hexes + more bases, and limiting how many torpedoes are available...

NormS3 -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 10:19:54 PM)

Really looking forward to all the new planes/ships and their arts.  But most importantly am looking forward to the modding capabilities!   Especially considering all of the creative genius of this forum!

pad152 -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/7/2008 10:57:22 PM)

I think opening the AI with the editor is the big feature that will keep WITP/AE going for decades to come, hopefully the AI will be up to the task!

Gem35 -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 12:21:52 AM)

I'm not sure about you noobs, but what I am really looking forward to in AE is it's release.[;)]

Mike Solli -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 12:36:25 AM)

Gem, you're a wise guy. [:D]

Eleven posts before someone hits the nail on the head.

Rossj -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 1:31:46 AM)

I don't check the site everyday, but when I do, there is great anticipation that it has been released. The sooner the better, but I don't plan playng too deeply into the grand campaign, because of the inevitable patches. Who knows, maybe there won't be any majot bugs and the minor ones won't invalidate saved games. I just hope the land game is better.

joey -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 3:08:17 AM)

I have lower my expectations of AE to simply a fun, playable, interesting, challenging, and most importantly RELEASED game............... Maybe I have not lowered my expectations at all!

tigercub -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 3:58:38 AM)

All of the above [:'(],i grabed with glee my copy the day after it was on the net whats that 4-5 years ago... over 2 years ago i sent a wave of 100 Nells (no escort)over to bomb a factory in bombay early in the war(march 42), knowing there was not many fighters and may not get be attacked in the raid (silly me) 30 fighers came up,OK then as the Air battle started i was thinking this is not so good i going to lose 15-25 bombers here......not one got home all shot down too the bomber and not one fighter was lost in there attack. This is all old hat now because we all know air system is flawed....but that flawed me i have not played the WITP since then but ..(before that raid i restarted the campain 5 times after Ver 1 came out with all the changes and even made my own mod and 2 years later)AE gives me hope to play to able to play again...[&o] yes i am fussy[8|]

JeffroK -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/8/2008 9:26:03 AM)

Getting it on the Laprtop and seeing the end of countless wish lists and the forum back to talking about a real game.

Right there with you sir! [&o]

Speedysteve -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/9/2008 5:12:39 PM)

More realistic sub combat meaning I can kick arse more with them[8D]

You sent a bunch of Nell's (lightly built, flying gas-cans) on an extended-range mission with no cover against opposition..., and you expected to see any of them again? You are truely an optimist! [:D]

tigercub -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/10/2008 12:57:39 AM)

optimist! very true mike but at that time no raids in the back area had been undertaken in our war....i was in hope for surprize.

Grotius -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/12/2008 8:51:36 AM)

For me, the top two things are (1) 40 mile hexes, and (2) exposing the AI to the editor, which will (I hope) inspire some good AI mods.

madgamer2 -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/16/2008 7:47:55 PM)

first and foremost its RELEASE!.......everything else is secondary. It will arive when they feel it is ready so we all have to suck it up till then.

m10bob -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/17/2008 12:45:40 PM)

Credible and historic aircraft capabilities in every area.

Akos Gergely -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/24/2008 8:18:22 PM)

Better ship damage model in combat resolution, so not getting a carrier almost surely sunk after it is hit by a 250kg bomb...

Also the new art and all the ship upgrades are a very welcome addition, I don't have to do it any more manually for all the scenarios :)

Of couzrse everything that is fixed from WitP and every new feature is more than welcome.

jcjordan -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/25/2008 3:03:43 AM)

More slots & no slot specific things

Lützow -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/25/2008 2:19:27 PM)

Anything improving this great game will be appreciated.

On my personal wishlist would be a higher resolution (crucial with the new hex scale), better handling of air forces (i.e. directly attaching fighters to bombing raids as it was in BoB) and some smaller scenarios maybe.

Crimguy -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/25/2008 2:32:07 PM)

I'm looking forward to the vastly improved interface and the integration of WitP Utility.

Wait . . . none of those things are happening?  Well, I guess I'll settle for atolls I cant land an overstrength corps on.  THis should change the strategy a lot when island hopping.

khyberbill -> RE: What are you looking forward to in AE (7/25/2008 8:43:56 PM)

I too am looking forward to way points. And perhaps not so many torpedo armed Betty's!!! There needs to be a limit to these.
