What WWII plane has a WiF counter and had 6 engines?

The German Gigant (transport plane).

Blohm + Voss BV 222...=6 :P

Doh! Two answers....I was reading a book called "The Worst Aircraft of the World", which included the Me-323 and it misinformed me that the Gigant was the only 6 engined plane in the war.

The counter is "LND Ju-290B" for the Junkers Ju-290B.

The Dornier Do X the German 6-Engine flyingboat has no counter.

The NAKAJIMA G10N1 FUGAKU Japanese 6-Engine Bomber has no counter.

brian brian -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/7/2012 12:45:35 AM)

Ju-290 = Four engines. I think I put up a neat quiz question about this one a year or two back in this thread. The only Axis aircraft landed on the North American continent by Luftwaffe personnel.

Ju-390 = Six engines. Two prototypes built.

Do X = Flown in the 30s before the Nazis, museum piece by 1939. Destroyed by the RAF in a bombing raid. That one was also in the 'Worst Aircraft' book.

Nakajima 6 engine bomber = no prototype built, existed on paper only.

So BV-222 and Me-323 remain the only "operational" answers. The BV-222 only existed in numbers less than 20. I do like building the BV-222 when playing WiF when I get Germany really rolling.

What WWII plane has a WiF counter and did not use a petroleum based fuel?

I thought that would be an easy one.

This plane could well be the shortest aircraft on any WiF counter, though I don't know for sure it is THE shortest.

JeffroK -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/8/2012 2:04:11 AM)

Me 163 S stoff and Z stoff ir someytthing similar

Fairey Battle for thr 1 mg in the wing.

brian brian -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/8/2012 2:35:45 AM)

yes on both there Jeff. Me 163 = the "Komet". The next clue would have been that this aircraft has WiF counters for two countries ... but no Lend-Lease stripe.

I was going to move on to a hint about how many awards for valor for flying the Fairey Battle.

tigercub -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/8/2012 6:05:38 AM)

lol....Komet or Fairey battle...you needed crazy to fly them awards for valor !! bring them on..

brian brian -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/27/2012 12:30:10 AM)

what type of naval escort successfully escorted 90,000 merchantmen in WWII without having a single one sunk?

Patton_71 -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/27/2012 12:44:32 AM)

US Navy Blimps

brian brian -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/27/2012 12:50:03 AM)

yep. two U-boats sunk, one blimp shot down along the way. USN had a plan to re-activate blimps in the 80s, but the USSR disintegrated first.

tigercub -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (12/27/2012 8:31:33 AM)

i think they only sank 1 the other sank it self with own homing Torp...but thats still in debate....

ezzler -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (1/3/2013 1:54:10 AM)

No, of course not. It was H.M. De Ruyter.

If not Goering, then Milch would be my guess.

brian brian -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (1/9/2013 4:12:12 PM)

Only 4? Probably Erich (Bubi) Hartman.

tigercub -> RE: OT - WWII quiz (1/10/2013 4:12:03 PM)

yes Extraneous Hartman flu 6 missions against the US airforce and shot down 6 P51 mustangs confirmed...in 4 of those missions he did not see the Enemy!
The other mission he and his wingman attacked a squadron of mustangs getting 2 but more mustangs come into the battle very keen to get the guys who just shot down there mates hartman sent his wingman home and kept the attention of his attackers..after 20mins of weaving and running his ME109 ran out of fuel and he bailed out!
his second kill of the war in 1942 was the second top ace of the USSR. he also was shotdown 14 times and not a mark on him....all in the ME109...if you want a good read the blond knight of germany.
