I guess there are around 150 British/Australian fighter bombers dispersed at the remaining bases in China, with the majority at Chungking, but none of them is flying Cap. Iīm not sure I would try to attack the base if he would have 80-100 (or even more) Hurricanes on Cap as I guess the losses wouldnīt worth killing two or three dozen fighter bombers. The good thing is that there is probably no base in China left that has enough supplies to enable the enemy to draw replacements so as soon as most of the ac are destroyed it means game over for the Allied airforce in China. Long range bombers can still fly out to Akyab - Ceylon - Karachi. As mentioned earlier, China is knocked out of the war anyway, we will need some 5000 assault points to keep the frontline where it is now and for garrisson duties. The only base Iīm going to attack will be Chengtu (North of Chungking) and then the enemy will be blocked at Chungking and Kweiyang to more or less starve away...

I donīt expect the Chinese to be able to launch any offensive anymore...

flak over Lautern is intense but the airfield stays 100% damaged after this attack. A hell a lot of Helens in the air today, the losses reflect the heavy usage of them today... we wonīt be able to keep the base closed as soon as the 5 or 6 divisions return from their march on Dili, guess this will take another 3 weeks or so. Then there will be too many Allied eng at the base to keep the airfield closed. Shortly after the first Corsairs will appear also and then this means major trouble going out from Timor...

what is impressive is the speed of you and miller. its even faster then the japanese "blitzkrieg" in 1941-1942.[&o]

Ambassador -> RE: it goes on... (3/5/2009 10:10:45 PM)

Congratulations for the Allies' submission.  Those honorless westerners (uh, easterners, from Japan's POV ?) barely deserve to be crushed by your mighty boots.[&o]

Good continuation, you've got the moral victory, now let's just hope you hold longer than IRL.[sm=00000436.gif]

Found this attack pretty amazing as I had nearly 200 fighters on Cap the last days (out of nearly 290) so Miller is quite bold to send his bombers once again unescorted against Timor. Of course when the bombers show up, we donīt even get 50% of our fighters in the air and while the Wellingtons suffered quite hard today, the 4Es once again came away without that many losses even though we destroyed 3 weeks of replacements. But thatīs not that much considering the fact that as soon as my opponent can launch escorted strikes this kill rate will go down to nearly no losses within the 4Es... [:(] When I see 8 B-17s being shot down immediately during the replay and only O N E out of 79 damaged crashes on the way home then I can only scream... itīs ridicoulos. They were beasts, but they werenīt Battlestar Galacticas... [8|] at least 7 more B-24s crashed on their way home. FOW in WITP means the ground losses are DOUBLED, as always. We lose 42 undamaged fighters on the ground.

During my order phase Iīve seen that 200+ aircraft were moved to Lautern (which must be damaged between 85 and 100%) but no strike was launched - pretty sure reason for that was the damage as weather was good. Aircraft were identified as mostly bobmers. I bet Miller will move them out next turn and the airfield will be empty again, but only he can see my aircraft transferes immediately...

after being shot up yesterday, the 4Es already launch again against Timor, meeting 46 out of 72 Tojos Iīve sent to Dili. It was great to see that my fighters were bouncing the Lightnings on escort and it soon turned out that the superior Allied fighter had no chance against the bouncing Tojos. Really love to see Miller using his Lightnings in those small numbers instead of waiting for three or four months to employ them for the first time. This way at least the Lightnings wonīt be a real problem because there are only 30 coming out of the factory each month (until the J version with 75 or so). 13 bombers lost too so it was worth sending my fighters here. [:)] Will be interesting what Miller will be doing with his foothold on Timor. At some point he has to either withdraw or send massive reinforcements to make progress out of Timor.

IMO he lost the initiative again. Would he have used his troops, CVs and massive bomber strikes to further attack after the loss of Lautern he could have gained the upper hand. As it is now, I had enough time to at least bog him down and prepare to further build up the defenses around Timor. But it will take at least 3-5 months more until I will have a deeper defensive net of supporting bases, not to talk about the problem of not enough ground units to heavily garrisson everything in the area. It wonīt be before mid 43 when massive IJA ground reinforcements will show up and thatīs normally the timeline I would like to keep the enemy out of vital areas.

damn it! Why, oh just why did I order this attack, when Iīve stated a couple of turns ago that it isnīt worth the losses as soon as Miller puts up some Cap again... [sm=00000117.gif] 36 Oscars for escort duty are far too few, especially if they get bounced for the whole engagement. I should have sent two Tojo sentais and another Oscar sentai to China. The Tojos to fly a sweep and 72 Oscars to fly escort... I havenīt so Iīve got what I deserved...

god damn Allied Nikmod flak... this day was a disaster for the IJA... taking that many losses for more or less nothing in return is not good if you want to keep your airforce in a state that is dangerous to your enemy. Attacking at 16.000ft didnīt help us, damage done is minimal and we suffer heavily. Going further up will only result in even less damage to the airfield. Soon Lautern will be operational again and this means trouble, major trouble...

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIb: 6 destroyed, 14 damaged
Hurricane IIc: 2 destroyed, 14 damaged
I-153c: 2 destroyed, 1 damaged
I-16c: 30 destroyed

and itīs as usual, we fight the hardcoded bounce due to a couple of Allied radar stations present... The Oscar sentai getīs wiped out, the Tojos did better but hey, the Hurricanes (perhaps exp 60) achieved a 3,5:1 kill rate today. My sentais were 80 exp... I love the bounce... alt doesnīt matter in the well designed WITP but nevertheless Iīve sent my fighters in at 25.000 and 30.000ft...[8|]

and here comes the follow on strike and hey, our strike got endlessly bounced again and again and again... [sm=Christo_pull_hair.gif][sm=crazy.gif]

another nice feature of the Allied radar sets, as you can see, we have destroyed... nothing on the ground... means the Allied launched 100% of their fighters... I love it, we are stuck with 50% in the best cases... [8|]

one more of those attacks and the presence of Allied fighters in China is history... [:@]

nearly 30 cruisers, the KB and another carrier TF (CV Junyo, Hiyo, CVLs and CVEs) popped up 6 hexes North of Broome today! Two cruiser TFs are tasked to bombard Broome and one Derby. KB and the other TF are ordered to provide air cover. Broome is full of ac and Derby has some 100 ac. I expect to see PTs popping up immediately and all ac being moved to the two bases on further West. Iīve also used Millerīs tactic of having a dozen float planes flying recon today, perhaps this enables us to do nukes tomorrow...

all my remaining units were wiped out today, we were able to fly out big parts of each unit and they will all be rebuilt...

Miller moved 200+ fighters to Lautern today!! And also the Northern Australian bases are now full of bombers again... Miller stated that heīs sure that KB is at Koepang, which is correct, not hard to figure out if you see 150 additional Zeroes flying Cap there. Itīs not just the KB at Koepang, I have nearly the whole IJN in the Timor area now and Miller isnīt sure yet what Iīm up to, at least thatīs what he told me. He will find out soon...

[8|] one thing that is absolutely bad about those engagements on and on is the fact that during engagements that pop up in the replay the damage increases and increases and increases and if there are enough engagements back to back then the ship sinks... when there are more replays, the damage is ALWAYS far higher than if thereīs only one engagement. Mentioned it often enough but Iīm sure it was never even looked at.

I once lost a BB to one 14" shell hit. No, not a mag explosion. First it was only "on fire", next engagement "on fire" .... four engagements later "on fire, heavy damage"... what the heck? More and more and more engagements, BB "sunk"... [sm=scared0008.gif][sm=dizzy.gif]

If your ships are hit, just hope there are no more engagements because otherwise the damage routine always goes crazy...

5 PTs sunk today, we have probably lost three DDs and one CL... HEY HO!

anything else to say about this turn?

castor troy -> RE: it goes on... (3/7/2009 7:16:32 PM)

And here we have the three dying DDs! All are heading to Koepang, a level 3 port. This means they will live on for another two weeks in port there and then they will sink one after another. If we would save one of them it would be a miracle as the fires will make sure that the flt damage will go up. Next "big" port is Kendari, level 5 but thatīs just too far away...

hey ho, trade 3 DDs for 5 PTs and a mine destroyed...

castor troy -> RE: it goes on... (3/7/2009 7:20:49 PM)

and to complete the report of this turns idiocy, here is CL Yura that hit a VH2... thank god it wasnīt a MK6, because then the CL would have sunk before I would have had a chance to take a screenshot. Well, the three or four times an Allied sub hit one of my mines - no matter if Type 4, Type 93 or Type 88, not once the sub sunk. Not once...

Yura is also heading towards Koepang, with one hex a movement phase... [8|]
But! The ship at least accounted for another mine destroyed! BANZAI![image]local://upfiles/13774/B383934A18364AB8A289143B6C1677DD.jpg[/image]

Miller has hundreds of fighters in Northern Australia and on Timor but obviously not enough to guard all his bases with reasonable Cap levels. Well, Broome has never had Cap since he moved his bombers back and the last three turns those damned Marauders hit two of my subs in this area (one is dead, the other one might make it).

The only good thing for me is that Miller always takes time until he learns... [;)] He does learn, but it takes time. He didnīt Cap his carriers in port, he then didnīt Cap the cruisers in Darwin. He had four CVs damaged and only with total, unbelievable luck on his part 300 of my bombers didnīt sink a single carrier. He lost four heavy cruisers due to not enough Cap at Darwin afterwards. He came back with lots of fighters, just to swap them out with bombers again. Then we withdrew our long range bombers to strike his airfields again. He came back with fighters. We withdrew, he came back with bombers, again without Cap, he pays again. I guess at this point he has to realize that he canīt put only bombers into a base, even though his flak is deadly as usual.

also the full second strike found itīs target and we achieve 142 hits on the runways and 32 on the base facilities. Guess the airbase is out of action for two days. The loss of nearly 60 Marauders is the replacement rate of two months but Miller shouldnīt be in low supply of Marauders. Itīs been quite a time since weīve seen the 4Es and big numbers of Mitchells again. I guess Miller thinks I will invade Australia in the next days and when he will spot transport TFs he will move 600 4Es and Mitchells back into his bases in Northern Australia.

We paid this small success with 13 lost crews. Even though only 4 bombers were shot down by flak immediately a dozen more crashed on the way home. So out of 4 damaged bombers, more than one is lost and 1 crew is lost for sure. I remember the last big 4E attack when 1 out of 79 damaged B-17 crashed. And no, Iīm not saying a Betty should be comparable to a B-17 but yet again the discrepancy seems to high for me, as this means the B-17 has a 20 times higher chance to survive. Guess 10 times higher would be high enough but perhaps an aircraft buff can come up with a study about the loss ratios of B-17s and Betties.

And we havenīt really encountered a super flak stack so far, all those bases are only "lightly" defended by some base forces.

Heīs only lucky that N O N E of them has been attacked by long range IJN bombers so far. We had chances to attack en masse! [8|] Guess with the succesful raid of mini KB against his big TK convoy there is not that much fuel for his Navy in Australia and every tanker full of fuel is precious. One out of six torps hit but doesnīt even do heavy damage. At least all the fuel will be lost...

Kweiyang is losing a dozen assault points on average per day, means 400-500 troops. [8D] Chinaīs army will be starved to death, when the dozens of units that were destroyed at Sian return at Chungking, the supply drain will be even higher.

Miller got a lot of intel about my troops prepping for Russian bases and as we donīt have a hr, he asked me if I will give him time to move his troops after I will (if I will...) attack Russia. Iīve told him that I will activate them (if I will attack... [;)]) and then my troops will stay in place for two or three weeks. I will keep my airforce active though as he can move his aircraft.

Miller has moved his aircraft back to Lautern, itīs easy for him to move out before my bombardments and in again when the ships have left. We donīt do any damage with nearly the whole IJN so he can use the airfield immediately again. We get our ridicoulos 40% Cap rate as usual and as usual WE get BOUNCED. We get bounced over our own base from escorting fighters. Nice. It absolutely didnīt pay off in kills for the Allied this time but what you should not forget is the fact that if you have the bounce your losses are also far smaller. In this case we achieved a clear victory though.

but thereīs a second strike and unfortunately the second strike gets the bigger escort. Miller doesnīt have a single figther on Cap over Lautern. [X(] All his bombers and fighters are set to offensive missions - the airfield at Lautern is totally stacked, there are some 300 aircraft. We again had to fight the bounce and due to the fact that the second strike is most always deadly, our Cap was shredded. You may not forget that we still have an exp advantage of surely 15 points but that doesnīt help us anymore... due to Allied radar coverage nearly everywhere. In a month, those Wildcats will be Corsairs, this means game over for every airbase in range of Corsairs and Allied radar. Once AP was scuttled, the other one has a 30% chance to make it...

At the end of the day, the enemy has lost nearly twice the number of aircraft we did but this kind of attrition is something we canīt withstand long. My 80+ exp pilots die like flies at the moment and the fact that we even get bounced over our own bases makes it more than problematic. One day of fighting and I have to withdraw the involved daitais for at least 3 months of training. So in an all out fight against Allied fighter squadrons I could probably hold out for 14 days, afterwards there wouldnīt be a combat ready fighter daitai left. Hopefully Iīm not forced to fight a prolonged fighter vs fighter battle over one of my bases in the near future.

itīs not a smart decision to fly those attacks. Once again Iīm not listening to my own words. itīs just like Iīve mentioned the last turns, while there was NEVER a Cap the last days, exactly the day we attack there is Cap again! [:@] Itīs crazy, no idea how often I have already wondered about Millerīs timing. Itīs nearly like he would know about my attacks before I know it...

what getīs me once again totally upset is the fact that KB is sitting at Kendari and launched 100 carrier based fighters even though it is set to 90% Cap so with something like 180-200 fighters aboard, so why on earth is the stupid game sending 100 of them to escort a land based strike? I want to preserve my carrier based fighter pilots but if you canīt rely on the settings you did that becomes hard then.

In the end the enemy is shredded but what if they would have shot down 50 of my carrier based fighter pilots? This could have made my upcoming operations impossible. [:@] Once again take a look at the ground losses... Itīs ridicoulos. Guess 100% of the undamaged fighters were airborne once again. Radar is working 100% of the time. Needless to say that we got bounced all the time. The only thing that helped us in this case was the fact that we have sent ELITE fighter pilots and the Zero is an excellent dogfighter when going in against Wildcats or Spitfires. Every turn I see all enemy fighters scramble and bounce my strikes for 100% of the time I get more and more pissed off. Should say still pissed off, as it has been like this for over four years now.

But I even seem to have had luck as weīve spotted Spitfires and Wildcats flying LRCAP over Dili so in fact there could have been far more Allied fighters on Cap over Lautern. No idea why Miller is flying LRCAP but it serves me good. With the game engine working as it does in regards of Allied radar it seems that it does not make any sense to send in bombers as they always hit an empty airfield anyway so if you only want to kill enemy fighters, youīre better off sending only sweeps. But with the hardcoded bounce and new Allied fighters soon this will then reverse in slaughters of the sweeper.

This sweep was ordered to go in first but even though weather forecast said overcast, Dili was clouded in in the morning. So our sweep goes in in the afternoon to kill off the remaining Cap. We got bounced for 80% of the engagement and achieve most of our kills at the end. During the bounce it was at best a 1:1. Without the bounce it was a 12:1+ in our favour... Lol, funny to see a difference of 10:1+ in kills with and without the bounce. Itīs just too powerful.

Good thing today was that we killed Spitfire replacements of more than two months but the RAAF sqadrons can also upgrade to Kittyhawks and there are surely enough F4F-4 for the Marines (and they will get Corsairs in three weeks anyway).

Miller stated that itīs obvious that I donīt want to have him aircraft on Timor. What makes him thinking like that? [;)]

As you can see, 350+ Japanese medium bombers were able to kill the laughable number of 10 Allied aircraft on the ground. Attacking airfields with 200+ aircraft there in total... Allied radar should be an advantage, but itīs ridicoulos how it works in WITP as it works 100% of the time to have all fighters scrambled and in position to bounce the incoming strike, no matter what alt it goes in...

I'm sure the Manchukuo garrison is only there for defensive purposes. [;)]
