Germany launches his last bombers in an effort to disorganize the Soviet defenders but fail miserably. Germany lose 3 bombers and 2 fighters against only 2 fighters lost for USSR. Germany fails to disorganize any units at all as all German bombers was shot down. [:@] Germany therefore cancels the intended attack on Vitbesk.

Ah, so the bulk of the Soviet forces are caught in the northern forests. Far, far away from their brothers on the plains in the south...

I forgot how much I liked this game. Nothing like a picture to wake me from my nap. I like the attack arrows and how the defense hex is opened up. Just curious, was this a 1939 or a 1941 start? Either way the game seems far enough in progress to not be too buggy. I'm warily observing the countdown with my fingers crossed.

Like macgregor I am starting to remember why for ten years me and the boys would meet every Monday. Threads like this make it easier. Thanks for the update Orm.

Hopefully we may see more threads like this in the near future...I think it is probably the most effective sales tool. But I guess if you're here following the forum you really don't need to be sold on it...you're just waiting patiently for it's release. Still, more beta threads would be a bonus.[8D]

At the same time on the southern front the German troops mass for an assault on Kiev and Odessa. To many Soviet units was captured and destroyed close to the border for any attempt to defend Dnieper.

The turn ended way to fast for Germanys taste. The last attack just retreated the Soviet units and since the turn ended Germany can't benefit from the fact that almost every Soviet land unit is disorganized. It could have been troubling for Russia if there had been another German impulse. Germany decided towards the end of the turn to abandon the advance towards Leningrad and send both HQ towards Moscow.

Hello, a small question :

I see Finns counters appears in 'violet' ? In Borad game if I remeber well Axis minors are all grey with a distinctive coulor inside Nato symbols.
Is it a change ? I think that the violets Finns are 'cute' :) In the pics of Romanian front Roumania counters appers in a more conventionnal way.

The colors for the counters are taken straight from the computer graphic files used to print the board game counters. So are the bitmap images for the ships and planes.

Why do the ports in the North look like they are iced in, in a May/June Turn?

How did things progress in the South?

Euh, in fact the counters from the board game all that about the same grey for the background of the units, as you can see on this sample of CS8 where you can find the Planes in Flames counters for the Germans, Axis minors and USSR.

The computer game had these colors slightly altered (this predates MWiF) to show that they are not really German units.

Ahhh, I thought that was the iced in graphic...not just the can be iced in graphic.

Here is what the weather overlays look like (storm and snow, typhoon in the Black Sea). The port symbols do not change, regardless of the weather. But snow & blizzards do affect those ports that have iced-in symbols - and only those ports..
NOTE this is not from the game that the ORM is providing an AAR on!

The Soviet Union wins the initiative and retreats a couple of hexes. Germany is frustrated with the missed opportunity with a double move. Germany ending last turn and starting to move in this one would have been a golden opportunity to capture or destroy several elite corps of the Soviet army. On the central front at least the army in Vitbesk would have been surrounded and eventually destroyed.

With the Soviet Army outside of German aircover Germany just advance and decides not to make any low odds attacks. Failed attacks so early during July could make a slow advance come to a complete halt.

A couple of questions:

I see you have a stack of russians being shown in the white rectangle. Are you able to have a number of stacks shown like that at one time, or is it just one at a time?

Who is making the moves for the Russians?

You can set the game so that you see the stack the mouse is pointing at like that.

I play the Soviet union.
The Germans is played by me. [:)]

A friend of mine made the initial setup of the Soviet forces.

The Soviet union slowly continue its retreat.

Germany feels the goal to capture Moscow is slowly slipping away. OKH therfore orders PanzeerArmee Rundstedt to attack northeast from Kiev towards Gomel - Bryansk area. Rundsted at once orders his forces to assault Gommel.

The 1st engineer leads the attack over the Dniepr river into the forest NW of Gomel. Even with the support of of the outflanking armour it is a daring attack.

The southern front, deprived of its elite forces, has lost the strength to continue with its relentless assault. Antonescu, the temporary commander of Army Group South, has been advancing to slowly to keep up with the fastmoving Army Group. The front units halt in order for his Headquarter to catch up.

I see a Fw190 A1 unit on the map... Isn't it a little bit early for the Eastern Front? Did you tranfer it from the Channel area?

must units are picked at random ..... and barbarossa is only the german/russian eastern front
