The Storch will show us how little runway it needs by taking off right in front of us.

The pilot did a great job demonstrating how slow the plane can go in the air....practically hovering like a helicopter. A good trait for an observation plane.

Sometimes good deeds get rewarded. The gentleman next to me with the same camera had his batt go out....so i let me borrow my spare. In return he let me shoot a couple with his $2000 400mm Telephoto lens on my camera. Nice. Wish I had a couple grand to blow. I'll have to settle for maybe investing in a 300mm lens. Far cheaper, nearly as good i'm told.

Nikademus -> RE: d-day flight (6/7/2009 10:20:15 PM)

I overheard the pilot, talking after the flight to the FHC's special guest asking if he'd caught his small mistake. Proof positive of the trickiness of landing a 109 on that narrow carriage. He didn't bounce but he said he experienced a brief wobble as the plane tried to go sideways on him on touchdown. And to think the Luftwaffe pilots had to do that on grass fields during the BoB!
