terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (2/14/2010 6:50:19 PM)

Thank you.
I'll try to be better at updating, however work+sleep+alot of ongoing pbems kinda dips into my AAR time [:)]
I do however capture a screenie every turn, but I will try to be better at updating as things go on.

I do agree with what you say, but there are a few things to take into consideration;
-Spain is now at war with alot of nations so she has to defend to some extent espesially since Britain can attack from Portugal
-I am behind on points, Italy will give me points and refuse them to Spain
-But as you say, my economy is bad due to having spent most of the game at war with someone
-I am currently the good guy who was stabbed in the back, this might change if I go into Italy.

But let us say that we win the war with Spain, what should we demand in a treaty?
1)colonies?
2)abandenment of protectorates?
3)provinces?
4)money?
5)feudal reforms?
6)scuttling of ships?

1) will increase our income and possibly gain us empire status
2) will give Spain less glory for the coming years
3) will give us easier access into Spain, maybe forcing them to treat us more kindly, and it will give us more empire points
4) our economy is bad after all
5) this will hurt Spain badly if she is still at war with anyone, and can greatly influence her economy
6) that is something I am not very inclined to do, as that takes away the possible Spain+France threat vs Britain.

Any ideas?

Terje

Just a couple of quick thoughts.

1.  Having Spain stay as glory leader is not all bad.  Keeps the target off of your back.
2.  To prop up the economy, go for colonies or provinces.  Money is a very short term solution, and will be gone before you know it.  Adding to your economic base and getting emire status will pay dividends for the rest of the game.
3.  Still plenty of game to go.  Appears France is niot viewed as a threat, which may put you in a position to prepare for a late charge to the top, possibly at the expense of Austria.

Turn 93

Alot of things happening, and just maybe I see an opening that would spell D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R for Spain [:D]

Mus -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (2/18/2010 4:49:01 PM)

I would take colonies and impose radical feudal reforms to cripple Spain long term. AFAIK it isn't currently working to demand abandonment of a protectorate.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (2/18/2010 6:37:42 PM)

Yeah guess I have to agree with both of you, colonies is what we want!

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (2/18/2010 6:38:46 PM)

Turn 94

A rare occasion! Our naval boys go to battle and outdo the British [:D]

Turn 95

Never saw this one coming. Spain has scuttled their fleet to avoid it being captured.
I have also decided to split my forces, one army will move into Spain, the other will go for Italy (atleast one territory).

*sigh* The sneaky Dons have done it again...They are once more bound for Paris...

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/6/2010 10:30:51 AM)

Turn 97

Something I thought to be a flaw (Eric has told me that it is not), is wrecking my economy once more...

[image]local://upfiles/11504/868FD1971D254007B73315B8146A7508.jpg[/image]

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/6/2010 10:33:17 AM)

Turn 98

We have Paris controlled and no enemy there to wreck our economy.
Apart from that, a pretty standard turn, we take some Spanish lands, and the Spanish takes some of ours..
I am now hellbent on takign Ancona, I NEED the glory. Of course Spain has several independent divisions running around making supply lines an issue. My only counter is to place ALOT of depots, which again means that my economy pays the bill...

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/6/2010 10:36:12 AM)

Turn 99

Well, the Spaniards take a few provinces in Southern France and wreck my supply line into Italy, and I advance further into Italy... If I can keep the army supplied, Ancona should fall next turn. Since this is a protectorate province, I will keep it no matter what happens (unless I lose the war and Spain retakes it that way). The British are proudly (yeah right... [8|]) fighting the Spanish in Africa (which translates into: Spain conquers Portugal and Britain takes N.Africa).
The Ottomans and the Austrians continue to exchange blows, and they are now talking in the pbem109 thread about a ceasefire.
However my MAIN concern is posted in the screenshot...

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/8/2010 11:47:21 AM)

Turn 100

Alot happens this turn, some good, some bad. Good news is that the Preussians do not issue a DoW.
Our Swedish "allies" are busy interupting trade between Britain and Myself. A wonder that the British accept this from their
allies, as it costs them 5 wine per turn.

Tophat1815 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/10/2010 6:18:03 PM)

Update when you can, wondering if the Prussians stabbed you or not. Keep up the good fight.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/11/2010 11:56:31 PM)

The game is moving at a painfully slow pace these days, so I have not updated yet because there are no more turns played, I am just as curious as you about those Preussians [:D]

Tophat1815 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/14/2010 5:44:12 PM)

How is your province exchange going with Spain? That cavalry upgrade helping in your running those fellows down after combat?

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/19/2010 11:58:08 AM)

Turn 101

More or less Status Quo. We take some Spanish territory in Italy, and Spain takes some of our provinces in southern France. But the good thing is that our economy is back on track, and we can increase our draft rate from 4 to 8.

Diplomatic talks are going on between the Ottomans and Austria, and the Ottomans and France.
Ottomans and Austria are about to sign a 2 year cease fire with Austria ceeding Transylvania, and the Ottomans will DoW Spain and land in Italy as well as attack in Africa.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/19/2010 12:01:11 PM)

Turn 102

Things are going somewhat different than what I expected. The British BEF has now taken Rome, and is marching SOUTH!?
And the Spanish are obviously trying to hunt down my 2nd Army and crush it, this leaves me no choice but to move my 1st Army south from Paris in an attempt to force Spain to move back out of Italy.
To and Forth all the time...
Still nothing from Preussia, and the Ottoman-Austrian cease fire is not signed this turn, nor does the Ottomans DoW Spain this turn.
My main fear is still located to the North-East. Preussia is the wild card in the deck. Will she side with Austria and Spain and DoW me?

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/19/2010 12:07:40 PM)

Turn 103

(Somewhere 6 turns have been lost as this is really turn 109, 2 I know because the print screen did not take...Anyway I will keep the turn # running as they are).

A more zoomed out picture this time to show the mess that is the "front line" [8|]
The bad thing for me is that the Spanish can work a supply centre from Italy while I still have to supply my armies all the way from France. What the BEF is up to noone knows, I only know that it seems that the British really do not want the Spanish-French war to end...

The Ottoman-Austrian cease fire is signed, so if Austria is about to act, they will most likely do so soon. If Austria and Preussia issue a DoW I hope they do not ally with Spain as I will most likely have to surrender to Austria and Preussia immediately.
And The Ottomans also cancel their alliance with Spain, meaning more no up-to-date intel for me about Spanish army strength.

My 3rd "Army" is just moving south in an attempt to cut supply lines if the oppertunity arrives, it contains only one division.

Rondo -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/19/2010 2:08:13 PM)

Kinda nerve racking for France. Thanks for the update and good luck.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/19/2010 4:37:39 PM)

Well it is not too difficult really.
IF the worst that can happen happens (as I expect it will tbh), I will be at war with Spain, Preussia and Austria.
If Preussia and Austria does NOT ally with Spain, I will immediately surrender to both of them as there is no way I can manage to fight three powers alone, espesially since Britain (my ally) is not really interested in ending the Spanish-French war, nor is Sweden (another of my allies) of any help, so I am alone.

Mus -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/20/2010 12:30:03 AM)

GB probably wants a long war with Spain in order to get as many colonies as possible. Otherwise with the situation presented it wouldn't make any sense for them to not go for the throat with a landing in Portugal and a short march to the Spanish Capital, particularly if you were fighting in Italy with Spanish armies and taking away protectorates there.

Why does Prussia want to help gang up on France exactly? Without France to weaken Austria Prussia doesn't become the great unifier in Germany. I would think Prussia would want to go down the middle a bit more.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/20/2010 9:12:17 AM)

Actually Preussia does not have any options. Britain, Sweden and France all owns territories Preussia has stated that she wants, and since we are all allied, it makes sense for them to ally with Spain and Austria in an attempt to gain more land.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/21/2010 11:34:51 AM)

Turn 104

A bad turn for France...
We take a beating in Italy, and by beating I mean beating [sm=fighting0083.gif]

I have decided that this is it, now I either do or die. We march on Madrid no matter what, the French-Spanish war will end in a few months, one war or another.

terje439 -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/23/2010 11:39:17 AM)

Turn 105

This turn I do not know what to think about.
I think it was a tactical victory for Spain, but a strategiv victory for France.

Spain remains in Italy attacking our 2nd Army once more, but our main army will reach Madrid next turn (movement orders this turn brings it into Madrid).
We lost ALOT of troops marching into Spain, THAT hurt...

Rondo -> RE: Do you hear the people sing?! (3/23/2010 2:02:29 PM)

Time to end this dance with Spain. You're bleeding each other to everyone else's benefit.
