I'll give you a call

Tophat1815 -> RE: Janissaries Forward! (9/9/2010 3:09:35 AM)

Whats going on?

06 Maestro -> RE: Janissaries Forward! (9/10/2010 3:00:14 AM)

Well, a few things have gone down-details later. I can say that I am optimistic that Emperor's Matto's witches will soon run out of frog legs and locks of hair from Croatian toddlers. Vienna will fall shortly after that point in time.

I have all the appropriate reports saved-those will be posted fairly soon.

Zap -> RE: Janissaries Forward! (9/12/2010 10:59:48 PM)

Looking forward to your report. This one has me anxious for the developments.

Sorry, missed you in LV. I know you were busy. We were busy the whole week, ourselves. Slowly, we are getting the big projects done. This should free us up a little, so we can, enjoy a little more our time of vacation.

Tophat1815 -> RE: Janissaries Forward! (9/13/2010 8:03:25 PM)

Bet they want a few turns to go by before breaking silence.

October 1805
Upgrades

I acquired the Esprit de Corps upgrade-right on schedule. I should have stuck to my plan of not having a big fight until I got that one...next time.

October 1805
Balkan's Operational Area

Things have taken a turn for the worse. Last month I advanced the 2nd Army into Odenburg from the south. The intention was to delay perhaps 1/2 of the Austrian Army on its way back to Vienna, which I expected to be occupied by France by the following month. The result was a bitter defeat for Ottoman forces in Odenburg. Although not a decisive defeat-it was costly-without including loosing a horse artillery regiment.

The Egyptian Army also suffered a defeat and was driven south. This was very likely an unnecessary defeat-the Sultan neglected to allow the Egyptian Army to go on supply-even though depots had been built for that purpose-details, details.

October
Strategic map

You can see from the current dispositions that France is taking a great gamble in this entanglement with Austria.

You can also see that the Czar has little interest in the goings on to the west.

Siege Reports

Some small success was had in capturing another Austrian province. More importantly, the Austrian diplomats are having a hard time with the Sultans agents.

Army Reports

My forces took a battering at Odenburg. As bad as it was I can hold some comfort in that the loss ratio is much more equal to any of our big battles (except Belgrade) in the last war. The Ottoman Army is much, much better.

Strength Comparisons

There have been heavy losses for the engaged parties-so far, the Ottoman forces have suffered the worse. However, the was included in the planning for this war-replacements are available.

November 1805
Balkan's AO

France has moved into Vienna-at long last. This was a critical juncture in the campaign. Unfortunately, France and the O.E. did not coordinate plans in depth.

The O.E. had a couple of important options-one of which would have worked very well in breaking the Austrian supply chain-I very nearly ordered those moves. However, uncertainty of Emperor Matto's intentions-I chose to stand fast. This was a grave error.

The 1st Army, the Sultans Army, is in full grandeur-hardly scratched from the war so far. The 2nd Army is still licking its wounds in Belgrade. I need to be careful with the 1st Army. If it suffers a defeat as the 2nd Army did this war will be all but lost.

Glory Report

The Ottoman Empire is holding steady in fourth place in Glory, but is falling further behind. The loss of a big battle in Odenburg did not help.

On the home front there was good news; the completion of 8 provincial projects was a major feat. The completion of 5 barracks in one month is something for the Empire to rejoice about.

December 1805
Balkan's AO

The 1st Army was ordered back north into Grosswardien. This was done in the hope of gaining a defensive battle against Austria (as Vienna seemed safe now-perhaps he would turn east)-or, at a minimum, gain a position for a quick strike at Pest or Odenburg.

The French Army, although recently defeated, seemed like it was in a safe position. Its combined forces were still quite formidable and if Austria attacked France would have a defensive advantage. It did not seem necessary to make any wild movements to assist France at this time.

Battle Reports (Part One)

It came as a surprise, but France attacked the city. I had expected at least a short siege. Vienna had been further built up by Emperor Matto. The attack was somewhat costly, but successful.

Battle Reports (Part Two)

The great shock of the campaign-French disaster. The combined might of the Austrian Armies proved too much for the French Legions. I expected my Ottoman forces to suffer at least one defeat, but not the French. This has changed the nature of the campaign somewhat.

I knew that Austria would take advantage of its interior lines-stated before the war even started. I did not expect it to be quite this successful though.

Strength Comparissons

The Ottoman Empire is recovering strength rapidly. France is not doing so well in this regard. I am wondering just how well prepared France was for this war. Austrian strength has also tumbled. It has suffered massive losses also. I can only hope that its reserves are used up.

Moral Comparisons

It is notable that Austria's moral is as low as it is after winning two major battles-the war is hurting.

French moral is dismal-already. Ottoman moral is rapidly recovering from the significant hit from the Battle of Odenburg.

Ottoman Moral

This is taken from the moral archives. It covers moral gains and losses for the month of September. As you can see-loosing a battle of the scope of Odenburg has some lasting effects.

Political Reports

The shocking item this month was the DoW by Spain against Portugal. Portugal is a protectorate of Great Britain. It seemed a reasonable guess that G.B. and Spain would have another war-but I did not expect this so soon. There can be no doubt that King Iron Warrior of Spain knows quite well that his action will bring war with G.B.

The April 1806 turn is complete and we are working on may. The pace has picked up a bit.
There have been some new developments which I did not even consider possible a short time ago-things are shaking-updates tomorrow.

06 Maestro -> RE: Janissaries Forward! (9/22/2010 5:22:40 PM)

January 1806 (Turn 163)

This was another big month in the area of provincial development. Eight projects were completed, including another 5 barracks. Due to an over burdened Treasury new development has been reduced-but not halted.

As Textile production needs to be used for consumption to compensate for the war at this stage, its use in development needs to be restrained. Generally, barracks development is at a stage where further additions will be too expensive in textiles-this is not so with arts development. It has been decided that it is time to implement the "Amphitheater Initiative". The goal of this program is to reach a total of at least 120 cultural developments by 1810. Thus means that approximately 42 arts developments will need to be completed in the next 4 years. It looks like it can be easily achieved, but the costs will be great-over 2400 in gold and a few hundred textiles. It will all have to be paid for by January of 1809 to be completed on time.

Currently, Ottoman Cultural level stands at about 105. About 30 of the current level are from occupied Austrian cultural centers. As soon as the war is over those "free" cultural centers will be gone. The real level is about 78.

The number one position is only one surrender away.

Diplomacy

Surprise number one; Great Britain and Spain are at war. Although I was certain that this would occur eventually it was not expected during the Franco,Ottoman/Austrian War. I expected some intrigue to interfere with the prosecution of that war.

I would very much like to join in the war against Spain, but do not have any available forces. France would be in a bad situation also as its armies are somewhat understrength at this time. War with Spain will have to wait-or at least, it should wait.

January
Balkans AO

The 1st Army, led by the Sultan, is moving into Pest with "charge the wall" oders. There is a slight risk as the Austrians can easily reach Pest in a month march. However, even though they are flush with victory, they have also taken sever losses. I think they will stay put for a while to recover.

The Egyptian Army will race back to the south east. There is a concern about likely new Austrian Cavalry appearing on the scene-they must not have a clear route into my supply areas.

Army Reports

These are the reports for the month of December. The battle for Vienna was a dismal and somewhat historic affair. The defeat of the French Army was not expected at all. Apparently, the patriotic fervor of the Austrian forces is not to be discounted.

This battle ranks among the largest in history-perhaps the largest in this war. Had it gone the other way, the war would likely be over at this point.

Ottoman forces continue to recover. There were some losses, such as 2 Cav divisions and the horse artillery regiment which will need to be rebuilt.

January 1806
Economic Report

The Treasury is adequate, but must be "nursed". A single major operation can call for enough depots to drive it significantly into the negative. Of course, provincial developments have been affected by the lack of funds.

I have made some changes in the draft laws. The large reserve of replacements is getting used up rather quickly. There is a need to accelerate training-so training time has been reduced. To compensate for this, the maximum draft age has been lowered. This has resulted in a marginally lower replacement moral, but has increased the monthly flow by about 1500. The total draft has been reduced from 7 to 5-both to save money and the higher level could no longer be reached at this time anyway.

Battle Report

Austria has won three major battles with total losses of about 110,000-no small feat.
Of course, WE WILL BREAK THE BACKS OF THE AUSTRIANS!
