Andy Mac -> Disaster in Burma (7/21/2010 3:39:59 PM)

De facto I have 1 Chinese Corps, 3 Indian Divs plus support retreating on Katha.

I have the ability to fly in another 1 - 2 Divs including two LRP Bdes of Chindits....

XV Corps is still making really hard going of the trek accross the mountains and has about 50 mountain miles to go before its on the plain...

Andy Mac -> RE: Disaster in Burma (7/21/2010 3:42:04 PM)

ps not a total disaster - if PZB can be tempted into pursuing off the main roads then he may get a nasty surprise.

XV Corps is very powerfull

AND

I have IV Corps and XXXIII Corps in India in case an opportunity arises to land in the south if he overcommitts to the North

Andy Mac -> RE: Disaster in Burma (7/21/2010 3:57:41 PM)

Also my Armoured Corps in Australia potentially could be available....

EUBanana -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/21/2010 5:26:29 PM)

Thats normal 3 Field Reginments

Ouch, I guess a lot of my Divs are pretty understrength then... I'll have to look at them again soon as I get home tonight.

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/21/2010 7:57:40 PM)

While I await the next turn I took a long look round my forces.

XXXIII Corps currently has a 19th, 7th, 25th and 26th Indian Div and 255th Indian Armoured Bde (Madras)
IV Corps has a composite US Div, 18th British, 6th Australian, 50th Tank and 268th Motorised Bde (Calcutta)

So about 8 Divs total between the two Corps

In addition India Command has about another 10 - 12 Inf Bdes and 10 - 12 Inf Bns on rear area garrison duties

XV Corps in the mountains has about 6 Divs albeit some of them are garrison Bdes along to secure LOC
Burma Corps has 14th, 17th and 39th Indian and a Chinese Corps

In Australia
III Indian Corps (In Australia) has 3 Tank and 3 Motorised Bdes plus Indpt Regts
I Aus Corps has 2nd 4th and 5th Aus Divs
II Aus Corps has 1st, 3rd and 8th Aus Divs
I US Amphib Corps 27th, 40th 41st and Amercal Divs

In NZ
3rd NZ Div (1 Regular Bde, 1 Regular Bde on Suva and 6 Militia Bdes plus 3 Deployable Armoured Regts)

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/21/2010 10:35:30 PM)

Brutal air combat I lose about 50 30 P40's and 20 Hurricanes but my bombers are ok

PZB loses about 60 Tojos

I call this one a win if only barely

Most of my airpower failed to launch

100+ 4E's didnt lauch nor their 40 P38 Escort
My 36 Welliongton Noght bombers were also socked in

They are fresh and going in tomorrow.

Best news of all my vulnerable 100+ RAF Bombers managed to get through intact had they ran into a 100+ intact LRCAP of Tojos <shudder>

So I lost about 50 out of 350 fighters that launched and almost no bombers which are my real weak point

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/21/2010 10:39:01 PM)

Tomorrow I am making a decisive bid for air superiority in North Burma

225 Group's 40 Wellingtons and 16 Liberator II's are ordered to hit Magwe AF tonight

In the moring 50 Hurricanes and P40's will sweep the AF

A second wave of 50 P38's will follow up clearing the way for 100 x B17's

My force preservation is paying off I have avoided excessive losses which has allowed me to keep a force in being.

Could be famous last works tomorrow......I have to assume PZB has a lot of damaged Tojo's after today's fights and I hope to catch them on the ground

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 12:25:21 AM)

Another tough day but I torched 30 Tojos half in the air half on the ground so not too bad

Lost about another 30 of my own my Hurricanes are starting to get tired so are standing down for 24 hours the USAAF P38's and Wellingtons of Bomber Command will need to keep up the effort

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 6:34:49 PM)

We will see what the next few days bring but I think I may have air superiority at least temporarily having destroyed over 90 Tojo's in the last two days its cost me 90 Fighters of my own but by carefull rotation of Sqns I still have a sizable reserve of both aircraft and pilots.

My most vulnerable pools remain the Blenheim ones basically my RAF Medium Bombers are very very fragile even now.

Hurricanes are not great having lost over 40 in the last two days but I still have a reserve and all Sqns at full strength.

I also have 80+ Fulmers in reserve which I do not want to commit but will if I have to

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 6:39:33 PM)

p.s. this is the advantage of staying back and not being attrited I may be weaker than I would like but I have enoug pool density in key types to carry on.

I am low on P38's and recieve no more B17's

De facto my intention is to continue to commit all my B17's to Burma and use B24's everywhere else in my heavy Sqns.

As the 17's are slowly attrited away to nothing over time they will be replaced by the starting to arrive in number USAAF Medium bombers.

In a few weeks I will decide but I believe I may send the USN and RN Carrier Fleet back to Capetown when repaired I will have 6 Fleet Carriers plus HMS Indomitable already in Indian Waters.

Potetnially that could give me a nice striking force when the time comes for Operation Dracula....

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 6:51:06 PM)

Future operations

III Indian (Armour) Corps will retake North Australia

I Aus Corps will prep for PM
II Aus Corps will revert to garrison duties

I US Amphib Corps will get ready for Solomons Campaign supported by 3rd NZ Div

I will need to re organise my forces accordingly and this will take some time but in general I anticipate these operations occuring in early 43

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 9:41:54 PM)

Air power at present

Fleet Air Arm

5 Sqns 3 of Fulmars, 1 Sea Hurricane and 1 Martlet (91 Fulmars, 32 Sea Hurricanes and 56 Martlets) The FAA is actually ok for Sqns and aircraft albeit not great ones - only Sea Hurricanes have a replacement rate at 5 per month

RAF

20 x Fighter Sqns and 1 Fighter Bomber Sqn (3 of Mohawks, 3 of Buffalo's, 2 of Hurricane I, 1 of Hurricane 2a, 6 of Hurricane 2b and 5 of Hurricane 2c plus a single Beaufighter Sqn), 3 x Sqns are in Australia supporting the RAAF

65 Mohawks, 52 Buffalos, 37 Hurricane I's, 38 Hurricane IIa's, 116 Hurricane IIb's and 110 Hurricane IIc's, 8 Beaufighter IVc

Total 418 Fighters and 8 Fighter Bombers

Replacement rate 36 Hurricane IIc's per month

Actually thats not a bad force even with 8 Sqns in older aircraft used for training pilots and rear area security

RCAF 2 x Sqns 1 of Kittyhawks and 1 of Hurricane XIb's total 52 Hurricanes, 46 Kittyhawks I and 20 Kittyhawk III's

RNZAF 2 x Kittyhawk and 1 x Hurricane IIb Sqns (total 15 hurricanes and 52 Kittyhawks)

RAAF 7 x Fighter Sqns (1 Spit Vc, 5 x Kittyhawks and 1 x B339), 3 x Fighter Flights (2 Kittyhawk and 1 P39D)  2 x FB Sqns (Beaufighters)

Total incl pools 20 B339, 12 Spit Vc, 106 x Kittyhawks and 13 P39D's

Repl Rate 18 Spits and 6 Beaus

Andy

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/22/2010 11:05:00 PM)

Obviously I have been using the coastal bases a lot for fighter sweeps so I am expecting a visit soon.

HMS Indomitable, HMS Hemes and group is moving on Ceylon on board she has 45 Albacores and 20 Sea Hurricanes...

HMS Truant is patrolling off shore for now and HMS Trusty is en route a further Group consisting of 4 Dutch and 1 S Boat are also en route so that will give me 6 subs and a TF of 2 CV's, 2 BB's, 2 CA's and 20 other ships

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/23/2010 12:26:20 AM)

John has pulled back his air force and it looks like 25 units at Schwebo mught be heading home as well.

To everyone who says the supply model is FUBAR I can guarantee you it aint.

Every unit in my mountain force is Fatigue +20, Disruption moderate and climbing and Supply in the red (I am haviong to divert more and more C47's to achieve 2 miles per day)

PZB seems to believe this is easy for me I guaratee it aint

and I guarantee you it is, if youīre not playing a special "dev edition". Iīve marched 7000av into Burma and never had a single day suppyl problems. Supply problems is something different than to see you units turning into red supply for one or two days when they miss 10-50 supplies out of 15000. Then Iīve liberated Burma and within three weeks, China sucked 250,000 supplies from Burma over the trails. Mhm, thatīs why I say itīs major FUBAR. And no, I didnīt even try to use the draw supply arrows in China deliberetely to draw supplies. And where did the supplies come from that were drawn from Burma to China? Correct, from India... Supplies from Akyab or Coxīs Bazar for example are immediately drawn to Rangoon or wherever you want to have them in Burma.

The supply routine is totally FUBAR, I supplied 7000av in Burma without ANY problem, I can move millions of supplies over the trails to China (if thereīs supply in Burma) and I have had 2500 av in Northern Australia for months that were drawing their supplies from ALICE SPRINGS. For months, never had a supply problem. You seem to be the only one having supply problems as one would expect to have when marching an Army of that size through the jungle into Burma as other players have reported exactly the same as I do.

On the other hand, I have huge supply problems in China and the only cities I dont hold in Burma are Rangoon/Pegu and I have 19 supply in Darwin and 79k in Alice Springs.

thatīs correct, I canīt even supply Tennant Creek or Daily Waters from Alice Springs. Yet I could supply the 2500av sitting at Katherine (in enemy hands) and now at Darwin (in enemy hands). Drawing the hundreds of thousand supplies to China via trails from Burma doesnīt mean I wouldnīt have supply problems there though because there the supply routine kicks in again and stores the supply at places I wonder what to do with the supplies there. [:D] Guess China needs some 1.5 mio supplies to see it stop having supply issues (in bases). Donīt have supply issues within my LCUs now though as they can draw from bases on the other side of China if thereīs supply.[:D]

You got that totally wrong, there is no 'dev edition', just a 'castor troy' edition. [8D][;)]

Btw, I don't see any major problems in the supply routines. But I haven't tested it either.

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 12:18:46 AM)

Castor I am playing the same version you are and my units are not fully supplied despite having over 100 C47's on supply drops.

De facto my units are at 2/3 supply, fatigue is rising and I am struggling to get them moving in the mountains.

So I stand by what I said.

castor troy -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 8:32:00 AM)

Hmm. Donīt know what you are doing different to those people not having supply issues at all. My troops also marched at a higher speed than 1 mile a day btw.

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 2:06:51 PM)

That picture was with only 1 Sqn of C47's

I now have 150 C47's and have ordered additonal aircraft from the West Coast to atart the long journey to supporting XV Corps so I hope the supply situation will improve.

No matter I am committed

I have sent 1 of the Armoured Bdes back home and 2 Arty Regts are heading back as well to help ease my supply situation in the mountains.

I am taking a long look at other operations.

2 more USAAF BG's are en route when they arrive I will equip them with USAAF Mediums to support the BG of B17's and 225 Groups Blenheims and Hudsons

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 2:23:56 PM)

Not sure how many supply points a C47 can take but in real life they could carry about 3 tons of supply each with parachutes so thats about 500 tons per day if they all fly

Alfred -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 2:30:11 PM)

Each 2000 lb load = 1 supply point.

Alfred

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 4:30:28 PM)

My base line supply cost for XV Corps is about 12,000 per month (24,000) in combat or somewhere between 400 - 800 tonnes per day

Akyab if open and supplied can supply about 140 tons per day at the end of my lengthy supply line if I can keep Akyab healthy for supply
Cox Bazaar about another 80 tons per day again if kept healthy

Chittagong can supply 720 per day dropping to 580 when I get to the plains BUT Chittagong is also topping up Akyab and Cox Bazaar and supporting a large air force.

I think I must have been operating to many aircraft at Akyab, Cox bazaar and Chittagong and thats whats caused the red supply status.

I am seeing an up tick in supply after I remove most of the AF from these bases - obviously that leaves them vulnerable to interdiction but no choice

150 C47's say a 67% sortie rate so 100 per day operating each delivering 3 supply points that means about 300 supply points to my advancing troops say a 50% attrition rate as its not into an AF but air drops into nasty territory

That means 150 ton per day from the air.

So 150 from air, 140 from Akyab, 80 from Cox Bazaar and another 580 ish from Chirttagong should give me enough supply but I need to be carefull not to operate the RAF out of these coastal bases to heavily and I also need to make sure that John doesnt shut down any of them for a long period of time.

A couple of days not a problem but a long term interditction could cause problems....

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 8:35:10 PM)

There is some prudence built into those numbers obviously but ideally i would want to gurantee about 1200 per day i.e. 50% redundancy without air supply.

I need to look long and hard at what air power I operarate

I think the numbers above clearly show that Chittagong is my weak link.

Its the supply hub for the whole operation if it gets shut down for any length of time or if PZB LRCAPs XV corps and stops my Skytrains I could be in trouble.

Despite their historic capability I am getting the feeling that Vengeance DB's are better as part of my Naval Strike Group they take to many casualties against land targets

I have 3rd TAF with 221 Group, 222 Group and 225 Group and 10th Airforce

AHQ India is operating 227 (T) Group

Plus I have the Eastern Fleet's FAA contingent.

I will be re organising my forces

At least one of the Groups will take care of my RAF Strategic Force - Wellingtons/Liberators

Andy Mac -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 8:45:49 PM)

p.s I love Wellingtons....8 x 500lb's !!!

Nomad -> RE: Operation Privateer (7/24/2010 8:53:35 PM)

Andy, you might try flying the Vengence at 9,000. They are bombing at 3000 feet now.

I had trouble with them in WITP but will admit because of that, I havent used them in land combat in AE. As Nomad pointed out, they are flying low. Please let us know if a higher altitude helps.
